BENESSERE ANIMALE: DATI PRELIMINARI PER LA VALUTAZIONE DELLO STRESS CRONICO NEL CANE

Some no specific immunity parameters (serum bactericidal activity, total haemolytic complement and serum lysozyme) were performed in two groups of dogs. The evaluation of the animal welfare through non-specific immunity indicators offers interesting diagnostic indications and represents a useful tool for the individuation of chronic stress

Production of reactive oxygen species is a normal process in the life of aerobic organism. Under physiological conditions, these deleterious species are remove effectively by the cellular antioxidant systems. Submaximal physical exercise could induce an unbalanced of redox status and a reduction of immune defences. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the oxidative status (glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities: GSHpX and SOD, respectively; and reactive oxigen metabolites: ROM's) of some horses competing in two endurance races (over the same distance, but under different environmental condition) and to investigate the lysozyme and Zn concentrations connected to the oxidative stress. The different environmental condition, during the race, induced significant variations of GHSpX (P<0.01), whereas no significant differences were found for SOD activity and ROM's, Lysozyme and Zn concentrations

Several AA described the influence of proper nutrition on animal ability to fight diseases. and a number of studies on the effects of deficiencies or imbalance of micronutrients in the process of infection and immune-modulatory properties were carried out. The aim of this work was to investigate the effect of Se and Vit. E administration on some natural immune responses of beef cattle at the 8th month of gestation
