    Library plays a vital role in academic institutions of higher learning. In the 21st century information technology has revolutionized the field of library and information science globally. In this context the present study is aimed to see the status of under graduate colleges of Assam and their attached libraries with special reference to Lakhimpur district of the state of Assam. It is found that library activities in these institutions of higher learning are lagging behind reason of which is lack of initiative to upgrade the library facilities up to date using modern technologies. Due to this the satisfaction level of users is much lower and might cause harm to the society

    Present study is intended to cover situation of college libraries in the Barak Valley, Assam in terms of status of collection, services offered, staff position, automation status, e-resources availability and user’s satisfaction. The position of services of college libraries during the pandemic situation is also highlighted. The findings revealed that the selected college libraries of Barak Valley have very limited print and electronic resources. In addition, the library services provided by the selected colleges are deplorable. Particularly, during the physical closer of libraries only one library provided online searching facility of subscribed electronic resources through log-in ID and password from remote sites

    Scenario of Archives Management in Some Selected University Libraries of Bangladesh

    The purposes of the paper is to analyze and assess the current state of archives and records management in some selected university libraries of Bangladesh as well as to evaluate professionalism towards the existing preservation systems. To draw inferences and make recommendations, a survey was conducted in selected public and private university libraries of Bangladesh. The universities were selected for this study on the basis of their position within 10th in the 2020 UniRank list published in Bangladesh. The primary data were collected through questionnaire, interview and observation methods and secondary data were derived from literature search. The findings of the study show that 50% public university library use digital repository as archives whereas 90% private university libraries preserve the archives digitally as well as manually. The study also reveals that maximum (90%) private university libraries use archival repository though the number of repositories are increasing slowly. On the other hand, 50% public university libraries use the repository but the number of manual collection of these university library are much higher than others libraries. The study also clearly indicates that public libraries are ahead of private university libraries in preserving the number of manual collection

    The aim of the present paper is to know the current status of various library services provided by different Under Graduate (U. G). College libraries of Barak valley, Southern Assam. The tremendous development in Information Communication Technology and their application in the various aspects of libraries have opened a new door for the libraries and users alike. In the age of Information Technology, there is a huge change in the methods and techniques of seeking the information and way of information dissemination on the other hand. The College Library System is a type of information system which is supposed to provide equity access to information and the world of knowledge to its user community. The seekers of knowledge and information are general public irrespective of their sex, caste, religion, age and wealth. Primary Mission of every library is not only to provide information and knowledge from its own resources but also from other institutions. But, unfortunately the College libraries of Assam are not fully automated, due to the lack of Library building space efficient IT infrastructure as well as insufficient and skilled library staffs. So college libraries of are not able to satisfy their users. The present study was carried out during last quarter of year 2019. For that purpose, survey method has been adopted, which comprises of structured questionnaire filled up by college librarian / library in charge of different colleges and a set of users questionnaire responded by different users of the colleges. On the basis of filled up questionnaire received from the respondents, data has been analysed and tabulated using Microsoft Excel Software. For data analysis percentage technique, has been adopted. It is intended to provide a general overview with some recent advances on the forms of sulphur in these coals and their desulphurization and recovery in the forms of elemental sulphur or useful compounds.     Prospect of herbal drugs in the age of globalization - Indian scenario

    423-431There are 2,50,000 known species of higher plants on the Earth and some more may be discovered. Of these, only six per cent have been analysed chemically and only a small fraction pharmacologically. According to pharmacopoeia of the world, at least 119 distinct chemical substances derived from plants are important drugs currently-used within 62 therapeutic categories, and 91 species are the source of these drugs. India has a vast reservoir of 400, 000 Ayurvedic, Siddha, Uninani or Homoeopathic practioners, hardly used adequately in the health care delivery system. Nearly 80 per cent of drugs used in Indian system of medicine and homoeopathy are derived from plants. With 46, 000 licensed pharmacies manufacturing and satisfying the needs of traditional remedies, large-scale cultivation of medicinal plants must be planned. A number of CSIR laboratories, University departments and hospitals, other scientific institutions are participating in the further evaluation and finetuning of such drugs through use of modern methods and tools. With pooled resources, efforts are being made to reach the goal of development of new drugs, herbal preparations, pest management agents, bio-enhancers, and drug delivery systems.
