Conformal Turbulence with Boundary
Based upon the formalism of conformal field theory with a boundary, we give a
description of the boundary effect on fully developed two dimensional
turbulence. Exact one and two point velocity correlation functions and energy
power spectrum confined in the upper half plane are obtained using the image
method. This result enables us to address the infrared problem of the theory of

Using Subsystem MT2 for Complete Mass Determinations in Decay Chains with Missing Energy at Hadron Colliders
We propose to use the MT2 concept to measure the masses of all particles in
SUSY-like events with two unobservable, identical particles. To this end we
generalize the usual notion of MT2 and define a new MT2(n,p,c) variable, which
can be applied to various subsystem topologies, as well as the full event
topology. We derive analytic formulas for its endpoint MT2{max}(n,p,c) as a
function of the unknown test mass Mc of the final particle in the subchain and
the transverse momentum pT due to radiation from the initial state. We show
that the endpoint functions MT2{max}(n,p,c)(Mc,pT) may exhibit three different
types of kinks and discuss the origin of each type. We prove that the subsystem
MT2(n,p,c) variables by themselves already yield a sufficient number of
measurements for a complete determination of the mass spectrum (including the
overall mass scale). As an illustration, we consider the simple case of a decay
chain with up to three heavy particles, X2 -> X1 -> X0, which is rather
problematic for all other mass measurement methods. We propose three different
MT2-based methods, each of which allows a complete determination of the masses
of particles X0, X1 and X2. The first method only uses MT2(n,p,c) endpoint
measurements at a single fixed value of the test mass Mc. In the second method
the unknown mass spectrum is fitted to one or more endpoint functions
MT2{max}(n,p,c)(Mc,pT) exhibiting a kink. The third method is hybrid, combining
MT2 endpoints with measurements of kinematic edges in invariant mass
distributions. As a practical application of our methods, we show that the
dilepton W+W- and tt-bar samples at the Tevatron can be used for an independent
determination of the masses of the top quark, the W boson and the neutrino,

The Importance of Hydration in Wound Healing: Reinvigorating the clinical perspective
Balancing skin hydration levels is important as any disruption in skin integrity will result in disturbance of the dermal water balance. The discovery that a moist wound healing environment actively supports the healing response when compared to a dry environment highlights the importance of water and good hydration levels for optimal wound healing.
The benefits of âwetâ or âhyper-hydratedâ wound healing appears to offer benefits that are similar to those offered by moist wound healing over wounds healing in a dry environment. This suggests that the presence of free water itself during wound healing may not be detrimental to healing but that any adverse effects of wound fluid on tissues is more likely related to the biological components contained within chronic wound exudate (e.g. elevated protease levels).
Appropriate dressings applied to wounds must be able to absorb not only the exudate but also retain this excess fluid together with its protease solutes while concurrently preventing desiccation. This is particularly important in the case of chronic wounds where peri-wound skin barrier properties are compromised and there is increased permeation across the injured skin barrier. This review discusses the importance of appropriate levels of hydration in skin with a particular focus on the need for optimal hydration levels for effective healing
Specific Heat Study of the Magnetic Superconductor HoNi2B2C
The complex magnetic transitions and superconductivity of HoNi2B2C were
studied via the dependence of the heat capacity on temperature and in-plane
field angle. We provide an extended, comprehensive magnetic phase diagram for B
// [100] and B // [110] based on the thermodynamic measurements. Three magnetic
transitions and the superconducting transition were clearly observed. The 5.2 K
transition (T_{N}) shows a hysteresis with temperature, indicating the first
order nature of the transition at B=0 T. The 6 K transition (T_{M}), namely the
onset of the long-range ordering, displays a dramatic in-plane anisotropy:
T_{M} increases with increasing magnetic field for B // [100] while it
decreases with increasing field for B // [110]. The anomalous anisotropy in
T_{M} indicates that the transition is related to the a-axis spiral structure.
The 5.5 K transition (T^{*}) shows similar behavior to the 5.2 K transition,
i.e., a small in-plane anisotropy and scaling with Ising model. This last
transition is ascribed to the change from a^{*} dominant phase to c^{*}

Associations between job satisfaction, job characteristics, and acoustic environment in open-plan offices
© 2020 Elsevier Ltd This study aimed to investigate the associations between physical acoustic factors, job characteristics, and job satisfaction. Acoustic measurements and questionnaire surveys were conducted in 12 open-plan offices. Active noise levels (LAeq,8-hour), reverberation time (T20), and speech privacy-related measures such as D2,S and Lp,A,S,4m were measured at each office. A total of 324 employees then completed the online questionnaire surveys. The questionnaire assessed perceived speech privacy, noise disturbance, job characteristics, and job satisfaction. The measures of job characteristics involved skill variety, task identity, task significance, and autonomy. The results showed that active noise level (LAeq,8-hour) was negatively correlated with job satisfaction. Also, job satisfaction showed a negative correlation with speech privacy, whereas the relationship between job satisfaction and noise disturbance was not significant. It was also observed that the relationship between task identity and job satisfaction was moderated by the active noise level and speech privacy
Wound healing and hyper-hydration - a counter intuitive model
Winters seminal work in the 1960s relating to providing an optimal level of moisture to aid wound healing (granulation and re-epithelialisation) has been the single most effective advance in wound care over many decades. As such the development of advanced wound dressings that manage the fluidic wound environment have provided significant benefits in terms of healing to both patient and clinician. Although moist wound healing provides the guiding management principle confusion may arise between what is deemed to be an adequate level of tissue hydration and the risk of developing maceration. In addition, the counter-intuitive model âhyper-hydrationâ of tissue appears to frustrate the moist wound healing approach and advocate a course of intervention whereby tissue is hydrated beyond what is a normally acceptable therapeutic level. This paper discusses tissue hydration, the cause and effect of maceration and distinguishes these from hyper-hydration of tissue. The rationale is to provide the clinician with a knowledge base that allows optimisation of treatment and outcomes and explains the reasoning behind wound healing using hyper-hydration
