New Measurements of Upsilon(1S) Decays to Charmonium Final States
Using substantially larger data samples collected by the CLEO III detector,
we report on new measurements of the decays of Upsilon(1S) to charmonium final
states, including J/Psi, psi(2S), and chi_cJ. The latter two are first
observations of these decays. We measure the branching fractions as follows:
B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)=(6.4+-0.4+-0.6)x10^-4, B(Y(1S)--> psi(2S)+X)/B(Y(1S)-->
J/Psi+X)=0.41+-0.11+-0.08, B(Y(1S)--> chi_c1+X)/B(Y(1S)-->
J/Psi+X)=0.35+-0.08+-0.06, B(Y(1S)--> chi_c2+X)/B(Y(1S)-->
J/Psi+X)=0.52+-0.12+-0.09, and B(Y(1S)--> chi_c0+X)/B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)<7.4% at
90% confidence level. We also report on the momentum and angular spectra of
J/Psi's in Upsilon(1S) decay. The results are compared to predictions of the
color octet and color singlet models.Comment: 27 pages postscript,also available through

Themes and Moral Values of Stories From the Sub-continent Published in Youtube
YouTube, a popular video site in the Internet, publishes children stories which can be used for the teaching of
English. Many children stories published in YouTube are based on famous fairy tales like “Goldilock and the
Tree Bears,” “The Three Little Pigs,” and “The Frog Prince.” Many other children stories, especially those
from the Sub-continent, are based on the less famous tales. Examples of these stories include “The Four
Friends,” “The Wise Son,” and “Whispering Palms.” Although these children stories are not well-known,
with their clear English pronunciation and English subtitles they offer useful resources for the teaching of
English. This paper presents the results of content analysis of a sample of 10 children stories from the latter
category, that is children stories from the Sub-continent. The analysis was focussed on the themes and moral
values. The results of analysis show that the children stories contain everyday life and animal life themes
which are close to children life. The children stories also contain moral values which promote the importance
of friendship, respect to other people, and love of natural environment. With examples of themes and moral
values as such, the children stories from the Sub-continent are relevant with the mission in the development
of character. Thus, when used in the English classroom, the video-based children stories from the Subcontinuent
published in YouTube not only provide useful materials for the teaching of English, but they also
contribute to the development of students\u27 good character
Research Studies in Second Language Writing and in Contrastive Rhetoric
The major aim of this article is to review studies of second language writing. The first part deals mainly with the process of writing in the second and first languages. The second part concerns contrastive rhetoric. In this second part, the findings of research studies on the relationship of first and second language rhetoric will be presented. Included in the discussion are research studies on contrastive rhetoric in the Indonesian context. The last section of this article concludes the discussion and proposes the implementation of more research on the relationship between Indonesian rhetoric and English rhetoric in essays written by Indonesian learners of English
A Photometric Technique to Search for Be Stars in Open Clusters
We describe a technique to identify Be stars in open clusters using Stromgren
b, y, and narrow-band Halpha photometry. We first identify the B-type stars of
the cluster using a theoretical isochrone fit to the (b-y, y) color-magnitude
diagram. The strongest Be stars are easily identified in a (b-y, y-Halpha)
color-color diagram, but those with weaker Halpha emission (classified as
possible Be star detections) may be confused with evolved or foreground stars.
Here we present such photometry plus Halpha spectroscopy of members of the
cluster NGC 3766 to demonstrate the accuracy of our technique. Statistical
results on the relative numbers of Be and B-type stars in additional clusters
will be presented in a future paper.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, 1 table. Accepted by Ap
Measurement of B[Y(5S)->Bs(*) anti-Bs(*)] Using phi Mesons
Knowledge of the Bs decay fraction of the Y(5S) resonance, fs, is important
for Bs meson studies at the Y(5S) energy. Using a data sample collected by the
CLEO III detector at CESR consisting of 0.423/fb on the Y(5S) resonance,
6.34/fb on the Y(4S) and 2.32/fb in the continuum below the Y(4S), we measure
B(Y(5S) -> phi X)=(13.8 +/- 0.7 {+2.3}{-1.5})% and B(Y(4S) -> phi X) = (7.1 +/-
0.1 +/-0.6)%; the ratio of the two rates is (1.9 +/- 0.1 {+0.3}{-0.2}). This is
the first measurement of the phi meson yield from the Y(5S). Using these rates,
and a model dependent estimate of B(Bs -> phi X), we determine fs = (24.6 +/-
2.9 {+11.0}{-5.3})%. We also update our previous independent measurement of fs
made using the inclusive Ds yields to now be (16.8 +/- 2.6 {+6.7}{-3.4)%, due
to a better estimate of the number of hadronic events. We also report the total
Y(5S) hadronic cross section above continuum to be sigma(e^+e^- ->
Y(5S))=(0.301 +/- 0.002 +/- 0.039) nb. This allows us to extract the fraction
of B mesons as (58.9+/-10.0+/-9.2)%, equal to 1-fs. averaging the three methods
gives a model dependent result of fs=(21 {+6}{-3})%.Comment: 23 pages postscript,also available through
