Polymeric foams from cross-linkable poly-N-ary lenebenzimidazoles
Foamed cross-linked poly-N-arylenebinzimidazoles are prepared by mixing an organic tetraamine and an ortho substituted aromatic dicarboxylic acid anhydride in the presence of a blowing agent, and then heating the prepolymer to a temperature sufficient to complete polymerization and foaming of the reactants. In another embodiment of the process, the reactants are heated to form a prepolymer. The prepolymer is then cured at higher temperatures to complete foaming and polymerization
Power laws, scale invariance, and generalized Frobenius series: Applications to Newtonian and TOV stars near criticality
We present a self-contained formalism for analyzing scale invariant
differential equations. We first cast the scale invariant model into its
equidimensional and autonomous forms, find its fixed points, and then obtain
power-law background solutions. After linearizing about these fixed points, we
find a second linearized solution, which provides a distinct collection of
power laws characterizing the deviations from the fixed point. We prove that
generically there will be a region surrounding the fixed point in which the
complete general solution can be represented as a generalized Frobenius-like
power series with exponents that are integer multiples of the exponents arising
in the linearized problem. This Frobenius-like series can be viewed as a
variant of Liapunov's expansion theorem. As specific examples we apply these
ideas to Newtonian and relativistic isothermal stars and demonstrate (both
numerically and analytically) that the solution exhibits oscillatory power-law
behaviour as the star approaches the point of collapse. These series solutions
extend classical results. (Lane, Emden, and Chandrasekhar in the Newtonian
case; Harrison, Thorne, Wakano, and Wheeler in the relativistic case.) We also
indicate how to extend these ideas to situations where fixed points may not
exist -- either due to ``monotone'' flow or due to the presence of limit
cycles. Monotone flow generically leads to logarithmic deviations from scaling,

Scanning tunneling microscopy simulations of poly(3-dodecylthiophene) chains adsorbed on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite
We report on a novel scheme to perform efficient simulations of Scanning
Tunneling Microscopy (STM) of molecules weakly bonded to surfaces. Calculations
are based on a tight binding (TB) technique including self-consistency for the
molecule to predict STM imaging and spectroscopy. To palliate the lack of
self-consistency in the tunneling current calculation, we performed first
principles density-functional calculations to extract the geometrical and
electronic properties of the system. In this way, we can include, in the TB
scheme, the effects of structural relaxation upon adsorption on the electronic
structure of the molecule. This approach is applied to the study of
regioregular poly(3-dodecylthiophene) (P3DDT) polymer chains adsorbed on highly
oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG). Results of spectroscopic calculations are

Validity, reliability, acceptability, and utility of the Social Inclusion Questionnaire User Experience (SInQUE): a clinical tool to facilitate social inclusion amongst people with severe mental health problems.
BACKGROUND: Individuals with severe mental health problems are at risk of social exclusion, which may complicate their recovery. Mental health and social care staff have, until now, had no valid or reliable way of assessing their clients' social inclusion. The Social Inclusion Questionnaire User Experience (SInQUE) was developed to address this. It assesses five domains: social integration; productivity; consumption; access to services; and political engagement, in the year prior to first psychiatric admission (T1) and the year prior to interview (T2) from which a total score at each time point can be calculated. AIMS: To establish the validity, reliability, and acceptability of the SInQUE in individuals with a broad range of psychiatric diagnoses receiving care from community mental health services and its utility for mental health staff. METHOD: Participants were 192 mental health service users with psychosis, personality disorder, or common mental disorder (e.g., depression, anxiety) who completed the SInQUE alongside other validated outcome measures. Test-retest reliability was assessed in a sub-sample of 30 participants and inter-rater reliability was assessed in 11 participants. SInQUE ratings of 28 participants were compared with those of a sibling with no experience of mental illness to account for shared socio-cultural factors. Acceptability and utility of the tool were assessed using completion rates and focus groups with staff. RESULTS: The SInQUE demonstrated acceptable convergent validity. The total score and the Social Integration domain score were strongly correlated with quality of life, both in the full sample and in the three diagnostic groups. Discriminant validity and test-retest reliability were established across all domains, although the test-retest reliability on scores for the Service Access and Political Engagement domains prior to first admission to hospital (T1) was lower than other domains. Inter-rater reliability was excellent for all domains at T1 and T2. CONCLUSIONS: The component of the SInQUE that assesses current social inclusion has good psychometric properties and can be recommended for use by mental health staff
SpaceOAR to improve dosimetric outcomes for monotherapy high-dose-rate prostate implantation in a patient with ulcerative colitis.
High-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy is an attractive option for patients receiving definitive radiation therapy for prostate cancer with decreased overall dose to the pelvis. However, ulcerative colitis increases rectal toxicity risk and may be a contraindication. A synthetic hydrogel, SpaceOAR (Augmentix Inc., Waltham, MA, USA), can facilitate the use of HDR brachytherapy for patients where rectal toxicity is a limiting factor. SpaceOAR gel (13.19 cc) was utilized in a monotherapy HDR prostate treatment with Ir-192 under transrectal ultrasound guidance, with the intention of decreasing rectal dose. SpaceOAR gel was inserted transperineally into the patient 18 days prior to the procedure. The HDR brachytherapy procedure was tolerated without incident. All planning constraints were met, and the following dosimetry was achieved: Prostate – V100% = 97.3%, V150% = 35%, V200% = 14.5%; Urethra – V118% = 0%; Rectum – D2 cc = 51.6%, V75% = 0 cc. The rectum-catheter spacing was on average between 6-8 mm. Average spacing for our 10 most recent patients without SpaceOAR was 3 mm. SpaceOAR did not hinder or distort ultrasound imaging or increase treatment time. SpaceOAR successfully increases catheter-rectal wall spacing and decreases rectal dose due to improved planning capabilities, while decreasing the likelihood of rectal perforation. One application of this tool is presented to mitigate potential toxicities associated with ulcerative colitis. where U = z^{2} + U_{1} z + U_{2} , V = V_{1} z + V_{2} , W = W_{1} z + W_{2} ,
in terms of the complex parameters U_{1}, V_{1}, W_{1}, U_{2}, V_{2} and W_{2},

Formal Verification of Nonlinear Inequalities with Taylor Interval Approximations
We present a formal tool for verification of multivariate nonlinear
inequalities. Our verification method is based on interval arithmetic with
Taylor approximations. Our tool is implemented in the HOL Light proof assistant
and it is capable to verify multivariate nonlinear polynomial and
non-polynomial inequalities on rectangular domains. One of the main features of
our work is an efficient implementation of the verification procedure which can
prove non-trivial high-dimensional inequalities in several seconds. We
developed the verification tool as a part of the Flyspeck project (a formal
proof of the Kepler conjecture). The Flyspeck project includes about 1000
nonlinear inequalities. We successfully tested our method on more than 100
Flyspeck inequalities and estimated that the formal verification procedure is
about 3000 times slower than an informal verification method implemented in
C++. We also describe future work and prospective optimizations for our method.Comment: 15 page
Optical matrix elements in tight-binding models with overlap
We investigate the effect of orbital overlap on optical matrix elements in
empirical tight-binding models. Empirical tight-binding models assume an
orthogonal basis of (atomiclike) states and a diagonal coordinate operator
which neglects the intra-atomic part. It is shown that, starting with an atomic
basis which is not orthogonal, the orthogonalization process induces
intra-atomic matrix elements of the coordinate operator and extends the range
of the effective Hamiltonian. We analyze simple tight-binding models and show
that non-orthogonality plays an important role in optical matrix elements. In
addition, the procedure gives formal justification to the nearest-neighbor
spin-orbit interaction introduced by Boykin [Phys. Rev \textbf{B} 57, 1620
(1998)] in order to describe the Dresselahaus term which is neglected in
