    FORMULATION DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF SUSTAINED RELEASE GASTRORETENTIVE TABLET OF EMTRICITABINE

    Objective: The study aims for the design and evaluation of floating tablets of emtricitabine (EMT), post oral administration to sustain the release and enhance gastric residence time (GRT). Methods: EMT is a nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitor for the prevention and treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The investigation was considered to formulate a floating tablet of EMT with various agents. The formulation included with various concentrations of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) k4m, ethylcellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) by wet granulation method. Various parameters for the prepared formulations were evaluated for weight variation, thickness, hardness, friability, floating lag time (FLT), total floating time (TFT), swelling index, in vitro drug release, and fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) studies. Results: The best formulation F1 exhibited 88.28% release in 24 h duration, with a floating lag time of 7 min and swelling index of 52.1% and drug content was determined to be 98.27%. The release mechanism was determined to be first order with higuchi release kinetics displaying diffusion along with the dissolution of the EMT from the tablet by non fickian mechanism. Conclusion: EMT tablets showed an increased GRT with a sustained release for 24 h thereby allowing a better window for absorption consequently improve the therapeutic effect of the drug

    Indices of equatorial electrojet and counter-electrojet in the Indian region: evolution of the indices and their authenticity

    Indices of the equatorial electrojet and counter-electrojet in the Indian region have been evolved based on certain reasonable assumptions, by a criterion depending on the difference in the horizontal field strength between a station under the electrojet axis (Trivandrum) and a station outside the jet influence (Alibag). The indices enable one to characterize each day of the year by an appropriate index. Distribution, in the months, seasons and over the years, of the electrojet and counter-electrojet frequencies at Trivandrum during a 20-year period, 1959-78, is examined. The salient features of the distributions are: (i) Strong electrojets (range 50 nT) and the afternoon counter-electrojets occur, on an average, on about 50% of the days in the year; (ii) For the counter-electrojet, the monthly frequencies show an annual variation with a summer maximum, and for the strong electrojet, a semi-annual variation with maxima in the equinoxes; (iii) A secondary maximum is noted in January in the occurrence frequency of both counter-electrojet and strong electrojet events; (iv) Intense electrojets occur with greater frequency in September

    Der ternĂ€re Chrom-Peroxo-PAR-Komplex weist einen scheinbaren molaren Extinktionskoeffizienten von 6280 l · mol −1 · cm −1 auf, wenn er aus 0,1 M schwefelsaurer Lösung mit Ethylacetat extrahiert wird. Das Beersche Gesetz wird bis zu 6,0 ÎŒg Cr/ml befolgt. Die Bedingungen fĂŒr eine optimale Farbbildung, die Zusammensetzung des Komplexes, die Wirkung verschiedener Begleitionen und die Anwendung auf StĂ€hle werden beschrieben. The ternary complex chromium-peroxo-PAR exhibits an apparent molar absorptivity of 6280 l mol −1 cm −1 when extracted into ethyl acetate from 0.1 M sulfuric acid solution. Beer's law is followed for solutions containing up to 6.0 ÎŒg Cr ml −1 .     Local diversity in settlement, demography and subsistence across the southern Indian Neolithic-Iron Age transition: site growth and abandonment at Sanganakallu-Kupgal

    The Southern Indian Neolithic-Iron Age transition demonstrates considerable regional variability in settlement location, density, and size. While researchers have shown that the region around the Tungabhadra and Krishna River basins displays significant subsistence and demographic continuity, and intensification, from the Neolithic into the Iron Age ca. 1200 cal. BC, archaeological and chronometric records in the Sanganakallu region point to hilltop village expansion during the Late Neolithic and ‘Megalithic’ transition period (ca. 1400–1200 cal. BC) prior to apparent abandonment ca. 1200 cal. BC, with little evidence for the introduction of iron technology into the region. We suggest that the difference in these settlement histories is a result of differential access to stable water resources during a period of weakening and fluctuating monsoon across a generally arid landscape. Here, we describe well-dated, integrated chronological, archaeobotanical, archaeozoological and archaeological survey datasets from the Sanganakallu-Kupgal site complex that together demonstrate an intensification of settlement, subsistence and craft production on local hilltops prior to almost complete abandonment ca. 1200 cal. BC. Although the southern Deccan region as a whole may have witnessed demographic increase, as well as subsistence and cultural continuity, at this time, this broader pattern of continuity and resilience is punctuated by local examples of abandonment and mobility driven by an increasing practical and political concern with water
