Non-diffracting Optical Beams in a Three-level Raman System
Diffractionless propagation of optical beams through atomic vapors is
investigated. The atoms in the vapor are operated in a three-level Raman
configuration. A suitably chosen control beam couples to one of the
transitions, and thereby creates a spatially varying index of refraction
modulation in the warm atomic vapor for a probe beam which couples to the other
transition in the atoms. We show that a Laguerre-Gaussian control beam allows
to propagate single Gaussian probe field modes as well as multi-Gaussian modes
and non-Gaussian modes over macroscopic distances without diffraction. This
opens perspectives for the propagation of arbitrary images through warm atomic
vapors.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure
Partisipasi Masyarakat dalam Pembangunan melalui Ruang Virtual dan Ruang Nyata
: This study aimed to describe and analyze the community participation in the development of the Salatiga city through information technology. By using the descriptive qualitative approach to observe the formation of community Kabar Salatiga. From the results in the field was found that the formation of community Kabar Salatiga not separated from the role of actor. Actor as agents of change utilize the social media (facebook) so that people can participate to gives information in criticizing, voice their opinions about the Salatiga city's development which currently and has already run. Kabar Salatiga community participation in the development not only manifested through the information provided by the virtual community. The passage of time the actors forming / creating real community of Kabar Salatiga by doing positive activities like helping people who are not able etc. With the community participation in development through information technology is expected the community no longer as an object but a subject.

Anveshak - A Groundtruth Generation Tool for Foreground Regions of Document Images
We propose a graphical user interface based groundtruth generation tool in
this paper. Here, annotation of an input document image is done based on the
foreground pixels. Foreground pixels are grouped together with user interaction
to form labeling units. These units are then labeled by the user with the user
defined labels. The output produced by the tool is an image with an XML file
containing its metadata information. This annotated data can be further used in
different applications of document image analysis.Comment: Accepted in DAR 201
Analysis of White Dwarfs with Strange-Matter Cores
We summarize masses and radii for a number of white dwarfs as deduced from a
combination of proper motion studies, Hipparcos parallax distances, effective
temperatures, and binary or spectroscopic masses. A puzzling feature of these
data is that some stars appear to have radii which are significantly smaller
than that expected for a standard electron-degenerate white-dwarf equations of
state. We construct a projection of white-dwarf radii for fixed effective mass
and conclude that there is at least marginal evidence for bimodality in the
radius distribution forwhite dwarfs. We argue that if such compact white dwarfs
exist it is unlikely that they contain an iron core. We propose an alternative
of strange-quark matter within the white-dwarf core. We also discuss the impact
of the so-called color-flavor locked (CFL) state in strange-matter core
associated with color superconductivity. We show that the data exhibit several
features consistent with the expected mass-radius relation of strange dwarfs.
We identify eight nearby white dwarfs which are possible candidates for strange
matter cores and suggest observational tests of this hypothesis.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in J. Phys. G: Nucl.

On amorphization and nanocomposite formation in Al-Ni-Ti system by mechanical alloying
Amorphous structure generated by mechanical alloying (MA) is often used as a precursor for generating nanocomposites through controlled devitrification. The amorphous forming composition range of ternary Al-Ni-Ti system was calculated using the extended Miedema's semi-empirical model. Eleven compositions of this system showing a wide range of negative enthalpy of mixing (-ΔH mix) and amorphization (-ΔH amor) of the constituent elements were selected for synthesis by MA. The Al88Ni6Ti6 alloy with relatively small negative ΔH mix (-0.4 kJ/mol) and ΔHamor (-14.8 kJ/mol) became completely amorphous after 120 h of milling, which is possibly the first report of complete amorphization of an Al-based rare earth element free Al-TM-TM system (TM = transition metal) by MA. The alloys of other compositions selected had much more negative ΔHmix and Hamor; but they yielded either nanocomposites of partial amorphous and crystalline structure or no amorphous phase at all in the as-milled condition, evidencing a high degree of stability of the intermetallic phases under the MA environment. Hence, the negative ΔH mix and ΔH amor are not so reliable for predicting the amorphization in the present system by MA
Marine lipopeptide Iturin A inhibits Akt mediated GSK3β and FoxO3a signaling and triggers apoptosis in breast cancer
Akt kinase is a critical component of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, which is frequently over expressed in human cancers including breast. Therapeutic regimens for inhibiting breast cancer with aberrant Akt activity are essential. Here, we evaluated antitumor effect of a marine bacteria derived lipopeptide ‘Iturin A’ on human breast cancer in vitro and in vivo through disrupting Akt pathway. Proliferation of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 breast cancer cells were significantly inhibited by Iturin A and it induced apoptosis as confirmed by increased Sub G1 populations, DNA fragmentation, morphological changes and western blot analysis. Furthermore, Iturin A inhibited EGF induced Akt phosphorylation (Ser473 and Thr308) and its downstream targets GSK3β and FoxO3a. Iturin A inactivated MAPK as well as Akt kinase leading to the translocation of FoxO3a to the nucleus. Gene silencing of Akt in MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells reduced the sensitivity of cancer cells to Iturin A. Interestingly, overexpression of Akt with Akt plasmid in cancer cells caused highly susceptible to induce apoptosis by Iturin A treatment. In a xenograft model, Iturin A inhibited tumor growth with reduced expressions of Ki-67, CD-31, P-Akt, P-GSK3β, P-FoxO3a and P-MAPK. Collectively, these findings imply that Iturin A has potential anticancer effect on breast cancer
