An Innovative Approach for Community Engagement: Using an Audience Response System
Community-based participatory research methods allow for community engagement in the effort to reduce cancer health disparities. Community engagement involves health professionals becoming a part of the community in order to build trust, learn from the community and empower them to reduce disparities through their own initiatives and ideas. Audience Response Systems (ARS) are an innovative and engaging way to involve the community and obtain data for research purposes using keypads to report results via power point. The use of ARS within communities is very limited and serves to widen the disparity gap by not delivering new advances in medical knowledge and technology among all population groups. ARS was implemented at a community town hall event sponsored by a National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities Exploratory Center of Excellence, the Center for Equal Health. Participants appreciated being able to see how everyone else answered and felt included in the research process. ARS is beneficial because the community can answer truthfully and provides instant research results. Additionally, researchers can collect large amounts of data quickly, in a non-threatening way while tracking individual responses anonymously. Audience Response Systems proved to be an effective tool for successfully accomplishing community-based participatory research
Observations of Global and Local Infall in NGC 1333
We report ``infall asymmetry'' in the HCO (1--0) and (3--2) lines toward
NGC 1333, extended over , a larger extent than has been
reported be fore, for any star-forming region. The infall asymmetry extends
over a major portion of the star-forming complex, and is not limited to a
single protostar, or to a single dense core, or to a single spectral line. It
seems likely that the infall asymmetry represents inward motions, and that
these motions are physically associated with the complex. Both blue-asymmetric
and red-asymmetric lines are seen, but in both the (3--2) and (1--0) lines of
HCO the vast majority of the asymmetric lines are blue, indicating inward
motions. The (3--2) line, tracing denser gas, has the spectra with the
strongest asymmetry and these spectra are associated with the protostars IRAS
4A and 4B, which most likely indicates a warm central source is affecting the
line profiles. The (3--2) and (1--0) lines usually have the same sense of
asymmetry in common positions, but their profiles differ significantly, and the
(1--0) line appears to trace motions on much larger spatial scales than does
the (3--2) line. Line profile models fit the spectra well, but do not strongly
constrain their parameters. The mass accretion rate of the inward motions is of
order 10 M/yr, similar to the ratio of stellar mass to cluster

Modification of classical electron transport due to collisions between electrons and fast ions
A Fokker-Planck model for the interaction of fast ions with the thermal
electrons in a quasi-neutral plasma is developed. When the fast ion population
has a net flux (i.e. the distribution of the fast ions is anisotropic in
velocity space) the electron distribution function is significantly perturbed
from Maxwellian by collisions with the fast ions, even if the fast ion density
is orders of magnitude smaller than the electron density. The Fokker-Planck
model is used to derive classical electron transport equations (a generalized
Ohm's law and a heat flow equation) that include the effects of the
electron-fast ion collisions. It is found that these collisions result in a
current term in the transport equations which can be significant even when
total current is zero. The new transport equations are analyzed in the context
of a number of scenarios including particle heating in ICF and MIF
plasmas and ion beam heating of dense plasmas
Exercise rehabilitation following intensive care unit discharge for recovery from critical illness: executive summary of a Cochrane Collaboration systematic review
Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd on behalf of the Society of Sarcopenia, Cachexia and Wasting DisordersSkeletal muscle wasting and weakness are major complications of critical illness and underlie the profound physical and functional impairments experienced by survivors after discharge from the intensive care unit (ICU). Exercise-based rehabilitation has been shown to be beneficial when delivered during ICU admission. This review aimed to determine the effectiveness of exercise rehabilitation initiated after ICU discharge on primary outcomes of functional exercise capacity and health-related quality of life. We sought randomized controlled trials, quasi-randomized controlled trials, and controlled clinical trials comparing an exercise intervention commenced after ICU discharge vs. any other intervention or a control or âusual careâ programme in adult survivors of critical illness. Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Excerpta Medica Database, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature databases were searched up to February 2015. Dual, independent screening of results, data extraction, and quality appraisal were performed. We included six trials involving 483 patients. Overall quality of evidence for both outcomes was very low. All studies evaluated functional exercise capacity, with three reporting positive effects in favour of the intervention. Only two studies evaluated health-related quality of life and neither reported differences between intervention and control groups. Meta-analyses of data were precluded due to variation in study design, types of interventions, and selection and reporting of outcome measurements. We were unable to determine an overall effect on functional exercise capacity or health-related quality of life of interventions initiated after ICU discharge for survivors of critical illness. Findings from ongoing studies are awaited. Future studies need to address methodological aspects of study design and conduct to enhance rigour, quality, and synthesis
Spectrum of surface-mode contributions to the excitation probability for electron beam interacting with sharp-edged dielectric wedges
The interaction of a nonrelativistic charged particle beam, travelling
parallel to the surface of a sharp-edged dielectric wedge is analyzed. The
general expressions for excitation probability are obtained for a beam moving
along the direction of a symmetry axis, either outside or inside the dielectric
wedge. The dielectric function of the medium is assumed to be isotropic, and

Interviewing suspects: examining the association between skills, questioning, evidence disclosure, and interview outcomes
The interviewing of suspects is an important element in the investigation of crime. However, studies concerning actual performance of investigators when undertaking such interviews remain sparse. Nevertheless, in England and Wales, since the introduction of a prescribed framework over 20 years ago, field studies have generally shown an improvement in interviewing performance, notwithstanding ongoing concerns largely relating to the more demanding aspects (such as building/maintaining rapport, intermittent summarising and the logical development of topics). Using a sample of 70 real-life interviews, the present study examined questioning and various evidence disclosure strategies (which have also been found demanding), examining their relationships between interview skills and interview outcomes. It was found that when evidence was disclosed gradually (but revealed later), interviews were generally both more skilled and involved the gaining of comprehensive accounts, whereas when evidence was disclosed either early or very late, interviews were found to be both less skilled and less likely to involve this outcome. These findings contribute towards an increased research base for the prescribed framework
Genomic heterogeneity and prevalence of hepandensovirus in Penaeus esculentus from Western Australia, and P. merguiensis from the Gulf of Carpentaria, Australia
Decapod Hepandensovirus 1 (HDV), formerly known as hepatopancreatic parvovirus, has been associated with stunting, lowered production and outright mortalities in prawns in aquaculture. Despite the fact that broodstock are sourced and aquaculture farms are planned in the regions of northern and Western Australia, data on these parvoviruses from this region are limited. The prevalence of HDV in Penaeus esculentus and Penaeus merguiensis is moderate (34â51%) in southern Western Australia, Exmouth Gulf and the Gulf of Carpentaria but statistically higher (P < 0.05) in Shark Bay (82%). We speculate this is due to the topography of Shark Bay combined with the currents of the Indian Ocean gyre (IOG). Despite an on average 8â12% genomic heterogeneity, the nucleotide sequences of HDV in WA most closely align with HDV in regions associated with the IOG; Thailand, India, Tanzania, Madagascar; eastern Asia, Korea and less commonly, with sequences from the eastern coast of Australia. This potentially changes the paradigm of a single strain of HDV being ubiquitous in Australia and there was little risk in moving broodstock from WA to the eastern states, so there was no testing of broodstock for HDV. There is no strong evidence to clarify whether the strain of HDV in WA P. esculentus came from either itsâ nearest genetic relatives, P. monodon or P. semisulcatus or from P. merguiensis from the Solanderian province of Australia. P. esculentus HDV appears to be most related to strains within the IOG. The HDV nucleotide heterogeneity of wild prawns contrasts strongly to studies undertaken with prawns from aquaculture where genetic selection may have occurred
Star Formation in Bright Rimmed Clouds. I. Millimeter and Submillimeter Molecular Line Surveys
We present the results of the first detailed millimeter and submillimeter
molecular line survey of bright rimmed clouds, observed at FCRAO in the CO
(J=1-0), C18O (J=1-0), HCO+ (J=1-0), H13CO+ (J=1-0), and N2H+ (J=1-0)
transitions, and at the HHT in the CO (J=2-1), HCO+ (J=3-2), HCO+ (J=4-3),
H13CO+ (J=3-2), and H13CO+ (J=4-3) molecular line transitions. The source list
is composed of a selection of bright rimmed clouds from the catalog of such
objects compiled by Sugitani et al. (1991). We also present observations of
three Bok globules done for comparison with the bright rimmed clouds. We find
that the appearance of the millimeter CO and HCO+ emission is dominated by the
morphology of the shock front in the bright rimmed clouds. The HCO+ (J=1-0)
emission tends to trace the swept up gas ridge and overdense regions which may
be triggered to collapse as a result of sequential star formation. Five of the
seven bright rimmed clouds we observe seem to have an outflow, however only one
shows the spectral line blue-asymmetric signature that is indicative of infall,
in the optically thick HCO+ emission. We also present evidence that in bright
rimmed clouds the nearby shock front may heat the core from outside-in thereby
washing out the normally observed line infall signatures seen in isolated star
forming regions. We find that the derived core masses of these bright rimmed
clouds are similar to other low and intermediate mass star forming regions.Comment: 67 pages, including 35 figures and 6 tables. Accepted for publication

Argon metastable dynamics in a filamentary jet micro-discharge at atmospheric pressure
Space and time resolved concentrations of Ar () metastable atoms at
the exit of an atmospheric pressure radio-frequency micro-plasma jet were
measured using tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy. The discharge
features a coaxial geometry with a hollow capillary as an inner electrode and a
ceramic tube with metal ring as outer electrode. Absorption profiles of
metastable atoms as well as optical emission measurements reveal the dynamics
and the filamentary structure of the discharge. The average spatial
distribution of Ar metastables is characterized with and without a target in
front of the jet, showing that the target potential and therewith the electric
field distribution substantially changes the filaments' expansion. Together
with the detailed analysis of the ignition phase and the discharge's behavior
under pulsed operation, the results give an insight into the excitation and
de-excitation mechanisms
