    The effects of magnetic interaction between vector mesons and nucleons on the propagation (mass and width) of the \rho-meson in particular moving through very dense nuclear matter is studied and the modifications, qualitative and quantitative, due to the relevant collective modes (zero-sound and plasma frequencies) of the medium discussed. It is shown that the \rho-mesons produced in high-energy nuclear collisions will be longitudinally polarized in the region of sufficiently dense nuclear matter, in the presence of such an interaction

    Effect of Nutrients and Plant Growth Regulators on Fruit Retention, Yield and Physico-Chemical Characteristics in Aonla Cv. NA-10

    To check pre-mature fruit drop in aonla cv. NA-10, an investigation was undertaken during 2007 and 2008 in a Seven year old private orchard at Jhargram, Paschim Midnapore, West Bengal, where the soil is red laterite and pH ranges between 4.5 and 5.5. Treatments included foliar spray of urea (0.2%) + DAP (0.2%), ZnSO4 (0.5%), Borax (0.4%), NAA (10 and 20 ppm), Vermiwash (3 ml/l), Humaur (2 ml/l) and water spray (control). Results of two years of investigation revealed that spray of NAA at 10 ppm was the best to increase fruit retention, followed by NAA 20 ppm, Vermiwash and Borax, which consequently resulted in the highest fruit yield of 54.9, 52.0, 46.8 and 36.2 kg/plant, respectively, against 13.8 kg in the control. Fruit weight was maximum with 0.5% ZnSO4 spray, followed by NAA 10 ppm. Fruit quality with regard to TSS, total sugar and ascorbic acid content was better in all the treated fruits compared to control

    On digital differentiators, Hilbert transformers, and half-band low-pass filters

    Interrelationships between the digital differentiator (DD), the digital Hilbert transformer (DHT), and the half-band low-pass (½-LPF) are brought out. A number of important properties confirming the close proximity of these filters are highlighted. Theoretical results are substantiated by transforming minimax relative error DDs to equiripple DHTs and equiripple ½-LPFs. Relations connecting their impulse responses and their frequency responses are brought out. The precise frequencies of ripple extrema and the magnitudes of their peaks are shown to be simple related to the corresponding values for the minimax relative error differentiators

    Salt Crystal Growth in Interacting Drops of a Complex Biopolymer: Statistical Characterization Using FESEM Images

    This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from Elsevier via the DOI in this record.  A simple colloidal drop generally forms ring like patterns after drying. The deposition morphology of the dried drop changes significantly when such a drop dries in the vicinity of another similar drop. Here we present an observational study and statistical analysis of the patterns formed inside an isolated as well as interacting drops of gelatin containing sodium sulfate (Na2SO4). In all the cases, multiple concentric regions of solute particles combined with the polymer gel appear as the drops dry up. Needle crystals of sulfur and coacervates of salt and gelatin are visible in some regions. The outer region becomes non-uniform, so does the size distribution of the needle crystals and coacervates. The non-uniformity increases with proximity of the drops. Here we propose a novel mechanism of growing patterns inside the single drop during drying and correlate that with the results obtained for interacting drops. This study and the proposed mechanism provide insights into the future studies of drying drops under different physical conditions. Further we explore the statistical characteristics of the single and interacting drops using the field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) images. Next, we report fractal and image texture analyses along with object shape statistics of the drop FESEM images, under various experimental conditions.
