    Anti-correlation and subsector structure in financial systems

    With the random matrix theory, we study the spatial structure of the Chinese stock market, American stock market and global market indices. After taking into account the signs of the components in the eigenvectors of the cross-correlation matrix, we detect the subsector structure of the financial systems. The positive and negative subsectors are anti-correlated each other in the corresponding eigenmode. The subsector structure is strong in the Chinese stock market, while somewhat weaker in the American stock market and global market indices. Characteristics of the subsector structures in different markets are revealed.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, 4 table

    A Novel Large Moment Antiferromagnetic Order in K0.8Fe1.6Se2 Superconductor

    The discovery of cuprate high Tc superconductors has inspired searching for unconventional su- perconductors in magnetic materials. A successful recipe has been to suppress long-range order in a magnetic parent compound by doping or high pressure to drive the material towards a quantum critical point, which is replicated in recent discovery of iron-based high TC superconductors. The long-range magnetic order coexisting with superconductivity has either a small magnetic moment or low ordering temperature in all previously established examples. Here we report an exception to this rule in the recently discovered potassium iron selenide. The superconducting composition is identified as the iron vacancy ordered K0.8Fe1.6Se2 with Tc above 30 K. A novel large moment 3.31 {\mu}B/Fe antiferromagnetic order which conforms to the tetragonal crystal symmetry has the unprecedentedly high an ordering temperature TN = 559 K for a bulk superconductor. Staggeredly polarized electronic density of states thus is suspected, which would stimulate further investigation into superconductivity in a strong spin-exchange field under new circumstance.Comment: 5 figures, 5 pages, and 2 tables in pdf which arXiv.com cannot tak

    On the Quantum Mechanics for One Photon

    This paper revisits the quantum mechanics for one photon from the modern viewpoint and by the geometrical method. Especially, besides the ordinary (rectangular) momentum representation, we provide an explicit derivation for the other two important representations, called the cylindrically symmetrical representation and the spherically symmetrical representation, respectively. These other two representations are relevant to some current photon experiments in quantum optics. In addition, the latter is useful for us to extract the information on the quantized black holes.     Fast Compressed Sensing MRI Based on Complex Double-Density Dual-Tree Discrete Wavelet Transform

    Compressed sensing (CS) has been applied to accelerate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for many years. Due to the lack of translation invariance of the wavelet basis, undersampled MRI reconstruction based on discrete wavelet transform may result in serious artifacts. In this paper, we propose a CS-based reconstruction scheme, which combines complex double-density dual-tree discrete wavelet transform (CDDDT-DWT) with fast iterative shrinkage/soft thresholding algorithm (FISTA) to efficiently reduce such visual artifacts. The CDDDT-DWT has the characteristics of shift invariance, high degree, and a good directional selectivity. In addition, FISTA has an excellent convergence rate, and the design of FISTA is simple. Compared with conventional CS-based reconstruction methods, the experimental results demonstrate that this novel approach achieves higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), larger signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), better structural similarity index (SSIM), and lower relative error

    Inertial torque on a squirmer

    A small spheroid settling in a quiescent fluid experiences an inertial torque that aligns it so that it settles with its broad side first. Here we show that an active particle experiences such a torque too, as it settles in a fluid at rest. For a spherical squirmer, the torque is T′=−98mf(vs(0)∧vg(0))\boldsymbol{T}^\prime = -{\tfrac{9}{8}} m_f (\boldsymbol{v}_s^{(0)} \wedge \boldsymbol{v}_g^{(0)}) where vs(0)\boldsymbol{v}_s^{(0)} is the swimming velocity, vg(0)\boldsymbol{v}_g^{(0)} is the settling velocity in the Stokes approximation, and mfm_f is the equivalent fluid mass.     Capture and sorting of multiple cells by polarization-controlled three-beam interference

    For the capture and sorting of multiple cells, a sensitive and highly efficient polarization-controlled three-beam interference set-up has been developed. With the theory of superposition of three beams, simulations on the influence of polarization angle upon the intensity distribution and the laser gradient force change with different polarization angles have been carried out. By controlling the polarization angle of the beams, various intensity distributions and different sizes of dots are obtained. We have experimentally observed multiple optical tweezers and the sorting of cells with different polarization angles, which are in accordance with the theoretical analysis. The experimental results have shown that the polarization angle affects the shapes and feature sizes of the interference patterns and the trapping force
