    Determinants of profitability : a case study of listed manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka

    42-50 p.The main objective of the study is to determine the profitability of listed manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka. In order to meet the objectives of the study, data were collected from secondary sources mainly from financial report of the selected companies, which were published by Colombo stock exchange in Sri Lanka. The results revealed that the profitability of manufacturing companies is less satisfactory. On the basis of result and analysis, selected manufacturing companies has different ranking based on each profitability indicators such as Gross Profit Ratio (GPR), Operating Profit Ratio (OPR), Net Profit Ratio (NPR), Return on Investment (ROI), and Return on Capital Employed (ROCE). Based on the Gross Profit Ratio, Operating Profit Ratio, Net Profit Ratio, ROYAL CHERAMIC PLC is at first whereas CHEVRON LUBRICANTS PLC is at first based on ROI, ROCE. Outcome of the study is beneficial to academicians, policy makers, practitioners and so on

    The Value Relevance Of Accounting Information And It’s Impact On Market Vulnerability: A Study Of Listed Manufacturing Companies In Sri Lanka

    This study examines the impact of value relevance of accounting information on market vulnerability of the listed manufacturing companies in Colombo stock exchange (CSE).Using one of accounting based measure of market vulnerability which is measured by market price per share. The sample of this study composed of twelve companies listed in the CSE and period of 5 five years from 2009 to 2013. The required data and information for the study were gathered from published annual reports, fact book, and website of listed companies in CSE from 2009 to 2013. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for this purpose for the study. The results revealed that earning per share (EPS) and net assets value per share (NAVPS) significantly impact on market vulnerability. Further EPS and NAVPS are significantly correlated with market vulnerability. Outcome of the study would be beneficial to the practitioners, academicians, policy makers and others.     Exploring Core Competencies of Readymade Garments(RMGS) Manufactures in Bangladesh: An Application of Exploratory Factor Analysis

    Ready Made Garments (RMGs) industry is one of the Bangladesh’s success stories. Like many developing countries Bangladesh was encouraged in the late seventies into the garments industry. The RMGs in Bangladesh is characterised by small and medium sized privately owned enterprise. The industry has attained phenomenal growth over the past fifteen years as the sector has been earning millions of dollars by exporting garments. In the context of export oriented industry, the garment industry has expanded very fast. Therefore, the present study is initiated exploring core competencies of ready-made garments in Bangladesh samples of fifty garments’ manufacturers in Chittagong port city. Data were collected through a seven points Likert type summated rating scales of questionnaire from strongly disagree (-3) to strongly agree (+3) were adopted to explore the competencies. Sophisticated statistical model as Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) has been used. The study has identified three core competencies which are determined in RMGs manufacturers in Bangladesh.     The main objective of the study is to explore the relationship between Entrepreneurial Motivation (EM) and Entrepreneurial Intention (EI). Secondary literature reviews and primary data collections methods were used to conduct the study. Stratified proportionate sampling method was adopted to select the respondents. Correlation analysis was used to identify the relationship between the EM and EI. The results revealed that dimensions of EM [Desirability of Self Employment (DSE); Feasibility of Self Employment (FSE); Tolerance for Risk (TR) and Perceived Government & Non Government Support (PG&NGS)] have significant positive relationships with EI. And also, there is a significant positive relationship between EM and EI.     Capital structure and its impact on companies' performance: a study of selected listed manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka

    Production and service are the important activities in this modern world. Most of people (i.e., investors and public) can see that many instructions have been established for rendering things and service to customers which seems a strong competition between these companies. Companies have to face competitive threatening among them. Therefore, company must consider capital structure decision well to perform. An attempt has been made to analyze the capital structure and its impact on companies' performance during year 2005 to 2009 (05 years) of listed manufacturing companies in Sri Lanka. Operational hypotheses are formulated and results revealed that there is statistically significant positive relationship between equity capital and companies' performance measured by Return on Equity (ROE), Return on Assets (ROA), Earning per Share (EPS), and Tangibility. On the other hand, there is an insignificant negative relationship between debt capital and ROE, ROA, EPS and Tangibility of the company. The outcomes of the study may guide entrepreneurs, loan- creditors and policy planners to formulate better policy decisions in respect of the mix of debt and equity capital and to exercise control over capital structure planning and thereby to control and reduce bankruptcy costs

    Over the year‟s bonus issues announcements and share prices have been subjected to many empirical discussions within the finance literatures. To the knowledge of the researchers very few studies have attempted to observe bonus issue announcement and share prices in Sri Lanka. In attempt to fill this research gap the present study initiated to find out the impact of bonus issue announcements on share prices. Primary information and secondary data were collected from Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). The present study used the „standardevent study methodology‟ to examine the impact of bonus issues announcement on share prices. The study identified sixty-seven events (32 Companies) listed in the CSE for the period from year 2003 to 2007. These sixty-seven events were divided into financial sector and non financial sector. Several interrelated procedures were performed through t-test by the researchers during the data analysis procedures. Operational hypotheses were formulated and results revealed that 43% of Abnormal Returns (ARs) are positively and 57% of ARs are negatively on the event day “0” (announcement day). In addition the bonus issue announcements have insignificant impact on share price of the CSE i.e., 5% level or 10% level of significance. Outcomes of the study will be useful to the academicians, practitioners, policy makers and investors for making suitable policy formulations for the companies.     A STUDY OF ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE OF WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN NORTHERN DISTRICT

    The main objective of the study is to analysis the women entrepreneurs in Northern District and their organizational performance. Secondary literature reviews and primary data collections methods were used to conduct the study effectively. Random sampling method was adopted to select the respondents. The structural equation model was used in this study as well. The results revealed that the sole proprietorship performed very well (59.1 percent) than the family business and partnership. The food items have higher mean value in the profitability, turnover and customer choice than the other products. The paper product has higher mean value in the investment than other products. And pottery product has higher mean value in seasonal sales than other products. Finally customer satisfaction was discussed in this study.
