Dielectric branes in non-trivial backgrounds
We present a procedure to evaluate the action for dielectric branes in
non-trivial backgrounds. These backgrounds must be capable to be taken into a
Kaluza-Klein form, with some non-zero wrapping factor. We derive the way this
wrapping factor is gauged away. Examples of this are AdS_5xS^5 and
AdS_3xS^3xT^4, where we perform the construction of different stable systems,

Low-dimensional light-emitting transistor with tunable recombination zone
We present experimental and numerical studies of a light-emitting transistor
comprising two quasi-lateral junctions between a two-dimensional electron and
hole gas. These lithographically defined junctions are fabricated by etching of
a modulation doped GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure. In this device electrons and
holes can be directed to the same area by drain and gate voltages, defining a
recombination zone tunable in size and position. It could therefore provide an
architecture for probing low-dimensional devices by analysing the emitted light

Non-Abelian Giant Gravitons
We argue that the giant graviton configurations known from the literature
have a complementary, microscopical description in terms of multiple
gravitational waves undergoing a dielectric (or magnetic moment) effect. We
present a non-Abelian effective action for these gravitational waves with
dielectric couplings and show that stable dielectric solutions exist. These
solutions agree in the large limit with the giant graviton configurations

Scaling regimes and critical dimensions in the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang problem
We study the scaling regimes for the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation with noise
correlator R(q) ~ (1 + w q^{-2 \rho}) in Fourier space, as a function of \rho
and the spatial dimension d. By means of a stochastic Cole-Hopf transformation,
the critical and correction-to-scaling exponents at the roughening transition
are determined to all orders in a (d - d_c) expansion. We also argue that there
is a intriguing possibility that the rough phases above and below the lower
critical dimension d_c = 2 (1 + \rho) are genuinely different which could lead

Consumer Willingness-To-Pay for Different Organic Certification Logos in Turkey
Using data from focus group discussions with consumers and a choice experimentconducted in some of Turkeyâs major cities, this study investigates whetherTurkish consumers prefer certain organic labelling schemes over others attemptsand to elicit their willingness to pay (WTP) for different organic certificationlogos. Although the level of awareness regarding organic certification logos waslow, consumersâ perceptions of the logos were generally positive. The results ofthe random parameter logit models indicated a positive WTP for the presence ofone of the three tested certification body logos in addition to the mandatorygovernmental logo. Given the low level of certification logo awareness, theconclusion is that both purchasing decisions and perceptions regarding logoswere affected by subjective criteria. Both the government and certification bodiesshould develop measures to increase consumer awareness of their logos and formconsumer perceptions and attitudes regarding the quality of the certificationimplied by the logo
Factors influencing the perception of organic certification logos in Turkey
Consumersâ perceptions on organic certification logos and the factors influencing these perceptions were explored. Data from surveys conducted in major cities of Turkey revealed that organic food consumers had little knowledge about logos, although the declared level of trust in organic logos was high. According to ordered logit models, consumerâs perceptions on organic certification logos were influenced by purchasing frequency and weight of organic foods in total food consumption. Dummy variables representing additional private certification company logos as well were generally found to have a significant effect on logo perception. This result suggests that consumersâ attitudes towards these logos and towards the governmental logo are not the same. Female and older people were more sceptical about the trustworthiness of the logos. While the credibility of the logos and the standards and control systems underlying the logos increased as frequency of purchasing organic food increased, those consumers who prefer organic open markets for buying organic food were hesitant to trust the credibility of the organic certification logos. The mandatory governmental logo and the underlying standards are trusted more than the private company logos. However, the difference of the attitudes toward logos decreases when the control system is in question. When a comparison between perceptions towards labels including different additional certification companiesâ logos is made, the additional logo was found to affect the stated preferences more negatively when the companies were foreign. Enhanced interest and trust in the organic certification logos among consumers would foment the development of the organic sector, and the findings of this paper serve as an input for the achievement of this aim
Spinning String and Giant Graviton in Electric/Magnetic Field Deformed
We apply the transformation of mixing azimuthal and internal coordinate or
mixing time and internal coordinate to the 11D M-theory with a stack of
M2-branes M2-branes, then, through the mechanism of Kaluza-Klein
reduction and a series of the T duality we obtain the corresponding background
of a stack of D1-branes D5-branes which, in the near-horizon limit,
becomes the magnetic or electric Melvin field deformed . We find the giant graviton solution in the deformed spacetime and see
that the configuration whose angular momentum is within a finite region could
has a fixed size and become more stable than the point-like graviton, in
contrast to the undeformed giant graviton which only exists when its angular
momentum is a specific value and could have arbitrary size. We discuss in
detail the properties of how the electric/magnetic Melvin field will affect the
size of the giant gravitons. We also adopt an ansatz to find the classical
string solutions which are rotating in the deformed with an angular
momentum in the rotation plane. The spinning string and giant graviton
solutions we obtained show that the external magnetic/electric flux will
increase the solution energy. Therefore, from the AdS/CFT point of view, the
corrections of the anomalous dimensions of operators in the dual field theory
will be positive. Finally, we also see that the spinning string and giant
graviton in the near-horizon spacetime of Melvin field deformed D5-branes

Transport on Directed Percolation Clusters
We study random lattice networks consisting of resistor like and diode like
bonds. For investigating the transport properties of these random resistor
diode networks we introduce a field theoretic Hamiltonian amenable to
renormalization group analysis. We focus on the average two-port resistance at
the transition from the nonpercolating to the directed percolating phase and
calculate the corresponding resistance exponent to two-loop order.
Moreover, we determine the backbone dimension of directed percolation
clusters to two-loop order. We obtain a scaling relation for that is in
agreement with well known scaling arguments.Comment: 4 page
Single pulse and profile variability study of PSR J1022+1001
Millisecond pulsars (MSPs) are known as highly stable celestial clocks.
Nevertheless, recent studies have revealed the unstable nature of their
integrated pulse profiles, which may limit the achievable pulsar timing
precision. In this paper, we present a case study on the pulse profile
variability of PSR J1022+1001. We have detected approximately 14,000 sub-pulses
(components of single pulses) in 35-hr long observations, mostly located at the
trailing component of the integrated profile. Their flux densities and
fractional polarisation suggest that they represent the bright end of the
energy distribution in ordinary emission mode and are not giant pulses. The
occurrence of sub-pulses from the leading and trailing components of the
integrated profile is shown to be correlated. For sub-pulses from the latter, a
preferred pulse width of approximately 0.25 ms has been found. Using
simultaneous observations from the Effelsberg 100-m telescope and the
Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope, we have found that the integrated profile
varies on a timescale of a few tens of minutes. We show that improper
polarisation calibration and diffractive scintillation cannot be the sole
reason for the observed instability. In addition, we demonstrate that timing
residuals generated from averages of the detected sub-pulses are dominated by
phase jitter, and place an upper limit of ~700 ns for jitter noise based on

Disordered Electrons in a Strong Magnetic Field: Transfer Matrix Approaches to the Statistics of the Local Density of States
We present two novel approaches to establish the local density of states as
an order parameter field for the Anderson transition problem. We first
demonstrate for 2D quantum Hall systems the validity of conformal scaling
relations which are characteristic of order parameter fields. Second we show
the equivalence between the critical statistics of eigenvectors of the
Hamiltonian and of the transfer matrix, respectively. Based on this equivalence
we obtain the order parameter exponent for 3D quantum
