    The age and mode of presentation of benign prostatic hyperplasia at Hubli in Karnataka

    Background: The peculiarities of the prostate are that in old age when most of organ regresses in size it enlarges and causes trouble. By virtue of its position, it guards outlet of urinary bladder. It must be admitted that even today the extent nature of etiology, pathogenesis and diagnosis are all-debatable. Therefore, the present study was aimed at elucidating the age and mode of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia among the patients in and around Hubli, Karnataka.Methods: The study was conducted after the institutional ethical committee approval and written informed consent from all the patients. 21 cases of BPH were included in the present study. The signs and symptoms of mode of presentation were recorded. The urine was examined for the presence of albumin, pus cells, epithelial cells and RBCs.  Results: The maximum incidence of the disease was in the age group of 60-69 years. Majority of the patients had difficulty in micturition followed by increased frequency of micturition both during day and night Patient with retention usually had distension of bladder. These patients complained of dull aching pain in the suprapubic area and in the groin region. Burning micturition (14.28%), dribbling of urine (4.76%), urgency (4.76%), and haematuria (4.76%) were present. Routine urine examination showed albumin (28.56%), pus cells (23.80%), epithelial cells (19.04%) and haematuria (4.76%).  Conclusion: Incidence of BPH at Hubli region of Karnataka is 0.3001% of total hospital admission. The maximum age incidence of BPH is in the age group of 60-69 years. Majority of the patients had difficulty in micturition increased frequency of micturition both during day and night a large number of cases show association with presence of urinary tract infection.

    Standardization of Spacing and Soil Volume Wetting for Drip Irrigationin Papaya (Carica papaya L.)

    Field experiments in two crops of papaya were conducted at ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research for four years during 2016-19 to standardise spacing with optimum soil volume wetting for drip irrigation. Narrowing the plant rows drastically reduced the plant height while leaf production affected significantly due to reduction in intra row spacing. The height at first fruiting was significantly lower with a spacing of 1.8 m x 1.5 m (56.4 cm) significantly differing from both 1.5 m x 1.5 m (60.9 cm) or 1.8 m x 1.8 m (66.8 cm). Significantly higher mean fruit yield (42.2 t/ha) was recorded with the spacing of 1.5 m x 1.5m as compared to either 1.8m x 1.5m (23.4 t/ha) or 1.8m x 1.8m (22.1 t/ha). Significantly higher water use efficiency (71.3 kg/ha.mm) was recorded in papaya by following closer spacing of 1.5 m x 1.5 m. Among the interactions, higher papaya yield (48.0 t/ha) was recorded with normal drip irrigation (80% soil volume wetting) under closer spacing (1.5 m. x 1.5 m). Further, higher water use efficiency (129 kg/ha. mm) could be obtained by scheduling the irrigation at 30% soil volume wetting especially by planting at 1.5 m. x 1.5 m. spacing suggesting its suitability for water scarcity areas

    Predetermination of Performance Parameters of 3-phase Induction Motor using Numerical Technique Tools

    The Circle Diagram was used in past for the performance evaluation of 3-phase induction motor under different load conditions. But, now it is not preferred due to availability of programs for detailed analysis. The per-phase equivalent circuit is also not that suitable to estimate the dynamic performance. In this paper, a method is suggested to determine the performance using dq-model.  The objective of this paper is to describe modelling in terms of dq variables. The analysis under steady state condition is done using numerical technique tools. The numerical tools such as Gauss-Seidel and Successive Relaxation methods are used and the results are compared with that obtained from the experiment conducted in the laboratory. The comparison of results confirms the validity as well as the accuracy of the proposed methods, as yet another approach to predetermine the performance

    Partial root zone drying irrigation in papaya (Carica papaya L.) for enhanced water use efficiency under limited water situations

    Field experiments were conducted during 2015-17 at ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru, to standardize the partial root zone drying irrigation in papaya with 12 treatments in RBD design. The results indicated that better soil moisture in the root zone could be maintained under drip irrigation by shifting laterals on either side at fortnightly intervals as compared to fixed laterals with thesame amount of water. Significantly more primary roots (16.5/plant) were observed when irrigation was scheduled on one side with single emitter meeting 60% of the evaporative demand. PRD irrigation through shifting of laterals recorded significantly higher transpiration rate especially at 50% of ER (8.05 m mol m-2 s-1) as compared to the control (3.95m mol m-2 s-1). Further, the same treatment recorded significantly lower fruit cavity index (0.26) with relatively higher fruit volume (1388 cm3). Irrigating papaya only on one side with single emitter resulted in significantly higher T.S.S (13.0%). Higher water productivity (23.7 kg/m3) could be obtained by scheduling the irrigation at 40% evaporation replenishment through shifting of laterals with saving of substantial water (1285m3/ha) resulting in higher water use efficiency (237.4 kg/ha.mm)

    Standardisation of fertigation in papaya for higher productivity and profitability

    A field experiment conducted to standardize the fertigation in papaya (Carica papaya L.) variety Arka Prabhat with 12 treatments in split plot design, indicated that fertigation with 75% recommended fertilizers (250:250:500 g NPK/plant/year) through water soluble fertilizers recorded significantly higher fruit yield (47.34 t/ha), fertilizer use efficiency (20.45 kg fruit yield/kg of nutrient applied) and increase in 31% higher yield over soil application. The TSS of papaya fruit was although not significantly influenced by both doses and sources of fertigation, significantly lower cavity index (3.12%) was observed when RDF was supplied with organics to the soil. Fertigation with 100% RDF through water soluble fertilizers recorded significantly higher soil organic carbon (1.16%). However, fertigation of 75% RDF with inorganic fertilizers was found more economical with higher gross returns (Rs.7.10 lakh/ha), net returns (Rs.4.7 lakh/ha) and benefit cost ratio (2.96

    Derivation of an eigenvalue probability density function relating to the Poincare disk

    A result of Zyczkowski and Sommers [J.Phys.A, 33, 2045--2057 (2000)] gives the eigenvalue probability density function for the top N x N sub-block of a Haar distributed matrix from U(N+n). In the case n \ge N, we rederive this result, starting from knowledge of the distribution of the sub-blocks, introducing the Schur decomposition, and integrating over all variables except the eigenvalues. The integration is done by identifying a recursive structure which reduces the dimension. This approach is inspired by an analogous approach which has been recently applied to determine the eigenvalue probability density function for random matrices A^{-1} B, where A and B are random matrices with entries standard complex normals. We relate the eigenvalue distribution of the sub-blocks to a many body quantum state, and to the one-component plasma, on the pseudosphere.Comment: 11 pages; To appear in J.Phys

    A prospective, open label clinical study to evaluate the safety, efficacy and tolerability of azadvir herbal steam inhaler in asymptomatic, mildly symptomatic COVID-19 patients and health care workers posted to covid wards

    Background: COVID-19 patients experience cytokine storm which cause pulmonary and extra-pulmonary complications even with currently available of standard of care. Additional antiviral and immune boosters are the need of hour to treat COVID-19 and to prevent post covid complications.Methods: In this study we enrolled 40 asymptomatic to mild COVID-19 patients to receive azadvir herbal steam inhaler along with standard of care. We evaluated the benefits of azadvir herbal steam inhaler by assessing RT-PCR conversion, clinical outcomes and improvement in immune markers (LDH, CRP, D-DIMER).Results: At the end of the study the immune markers improved significantly in study patients. In mild symptomatic cases IL-6 was 23.2 pg/ml on day 0 and 21.8 pg/ml on day 14. Reduction in IL-6 in mild symptomatic patients was statistically highly significant (p=0.0056). Mean IL-6 in asymptomatic patients was 22.3 pg/ml on day 0 and 21.1 pg/ml on day 14. Reduction in IL-6 in asymptomatic patients was statistically highly significant (p=0.0035).  Mean D-dimer was showing decreasing trend from day 0 to day 14 in mild symptomatic patients. In asymptomatic patients D dimer was 0.8 µg/ml on day 0 and 0.6 µg/ml on day 14. D-dimer decreased significantly from day 0 to day 14 (p value =0.0013). Mean LDH values on day 0 in mild symptomatic patients was 319.4 U/l and 219.3 on day 14. The reduction in LDH values in mild symptomatic patients is statistically significant (p value <0.0122). In asymptomatic patients mean LDH values on day 0 was 237 U/l and 194 U/l on day 14. The reduction in LDH values in asymptomatic group was statistically significant. Mean CRP values in mild symptomatic patients on day 0 was 12.2 mg/l and 3.8 mg/l on day 14. There was significant reduction in CRP values in mild symptomatic group which was statistically significant (p value =0.0546). Mean CRP values in asymptomatic patients on day 0 was 4.9 mg/l and 2.8 mg/l on day 14. There was significant reduction in mean CRP in asymptomatic patients which was statistically significant (p value =0.0446). In the present study all 40 patients (100%) cleared the virus and became negative for RT PCR test within 6 days. None of the patients progressed to severe COVID-19 and none of the patients succumbed to the disease.Conclusions: Azadvir accelerated recovery of COVID-19 patients by RT-PCR conversion, early improvement in clinical symptoms and immune markers in this study. This study results clearly indicates that azadvir has antiviral, immune booster activity and has definitive role in the management of asymptomatic to mild COVID-19 patients along with standard of care (CTRI no.     Estimation of Individual Micro Data from Aggregated Open Data

    In this paper, we propose a method of estimating individual micro data from aggregated open data based on semi-supervised learning and conditional probability. Firstly, the proposed method collects aggregated open data and support data, which are related to the individual micro data to be estimated. Then, we perform the locality sensitive hashing (LSH) algorithm to find a subset of the support data that is similar to the aggregated open data and then classify them by using the Ensemble classification model, which is learned by semi-supervised learning. Finally, we use conditional probability to estimate the individual micro data by finding the most suitable record for the probability distribution of the individual micro data among the classification results. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we estimated the individual building data where the fire occurred using the aggregated fire open data. According to the experimental results, the micro data estimation performance of the proposed method is 59.41% on average in terms of accuracy.Comment: 7 page

    Evaluating the effect of care around labor and delivery practices on early neonatal mortality in the global network\u27s maternal and newborn health registry

    Background: Neonatal deaths in first 28-days of life represent 47% of all deaths under the age of five years globally and are a focus of the United Nation\u27s (UN\u27s) Sustainable Development Goals. Pregnant women are delivering in facilities but that does not indicate quality of care during delivery and the postpartum period. The World Health Organization\u27s Essential Newborn Care (ENC) package reduces neonatal mortality, but lacks a simple and valid composite index that measures its effectiveness.Methods: Data on 5 intra-partum and 3 post-partum practices (indicators) recommended as part of ENC, routinely collected in NICHD\u27s Global Network\u27s (GN) Maternal Newborn Health Registry (MNHR) between 2010 and 2013, were included. We evaluated if all 8 practices (Care around Delivery - CAD), combined as an index was associated with reduced early neonatal mortality rates (days 0-6 of life).Results: A total of 150,848 live births were included in the analysis. The individual indicators varied across sites. All components were present in 19.9% births (range 0.4 to 31% across sites). Present indicators (8 components) were associated with reduced early neonatal mortality [adjusted RR (95% CI):0.81 (0.77, 0.85); p \u3c 0.0001]. Despite an overall association between CAD and early neonatal mortality (RR \u3c 1.0 for all early mortality): delivery by skilled birth attendant; presence of fetal heart and delayed bathing were associated with increased early neonatal mortality.Conclusions: Present indicators (8 practices) of CAD were associated with a 19% reduction in the risk of neonatal death in the diverse health facilities where delivery occurred within the GN MNHR. These indicators could be monitored to identify facilities that need to improve compliance with ENC practices to reduce preventable neonatal deaths. Three of the 8 indicators were associated with increased neonatal mortality, due to baby being sick at birth. Although promising, this composite index needs refinement before use to monitor facility-based quality of care in association with early neonatal mortality.
