First Results of the 74 MHz VLA-Pie Town Link. Hercules A at Low Frequencies
We present the results of the first successful observations of the Pie Town
link with the Very Large Array (VLA) at 74 MHz on Hercules A. The improvement
in resolution from 25 arcsec to 10 arcsec resolves the helical- and ring-like
features seen at higher frequencies. We also present new high dynamic range
images of this powerful radio galaxy at 325 MHz. Our low frequency observations
confirm the multiple outburst interpretation of the spectral index differences
at high frequencies. Comparison between our radio and ROSAT X-ray data does not
reveal any association between the X-ray emission from the cluster and the
radio lobes. There are no extra regions of radio emission at 74 MHz.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in MNRA
Bis(4-cyanophenolato)[hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)borato]nitrosylmolybdenum(II)–4-hydroxybenzonitrile–dichloromethane (1/1/1)
In the title compound, [Mo(C15H22BN6)(C7H4NO)2(NO)]·C7H5NO·CH2Cl2, the central MoII atom adopts a distorted cis-MoO2N4 octahedral geometry with the hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolylborate) anion attached to the metal in an N,N′,N′′-tridentate tripodal coordination mode. Two O-bonded 4-cyanophenolate anions and a nitrosyl cation complete the coodination of the MoII atom. Two intramolecular C—H⋯O and one C—H⋯N hydrogen bonds help to establish the configuration of the complex molecule. The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular C—H⋯N and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds
(4-tert-Butylpyridine)chlorido[hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)borato]nitrosylmolybdenum(I) dichloromethane monosolvate
In the title compound, [Mo(C15H22BN6)Cl(NO)(C9H13N)]·CH2Cl2, the MoI atom adopts a distorted MoClN5 octahedral geometry with the hydrotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl)borate anion in an N,N′,N′′-tridentate tripodal (facial) coordination mode. A 4-tert-butylpyrine ligand, chloride anion and a nitrosyl cation complement the coodination of the MoI atom and an intramolecular C—H⋯Cl hydrogen bond helps to stabilize the configuration of the complex molecule. The packing is stabilized by an intermolecular C—H⋯Cl hydrogen bond involving the complex molecule and the CH2Cl2 solvent molecule
Genetic variation and possible origins of weedy rice found in California.
Control of weeds in cultivated crops is a pivotal component in successful crop production allowing higher yield and higher quality. In rice-growing regions worldwide, weedy rice (Oryza sativa f. spontanea Rosh.) is a weed related to cultivated rice which infests rice fields. With populations across the globe evolving a suite of phenotypic traits characteristic of weeds and of cultivated rice, varying hypotheses exist on the origin of weedy rice. Here, we investigated the genetic diversity and possible origin of weedy rice in California using 98 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers and an Rc gene-specific marker. By employing phylogenetic clustering analysis, we show that four to five genetically distinct biotypes of weedy rice exist in California. Analysis of population structure and genetic distance among individuals reveals diverse evolutionary origins of California weedy rice biotypes, with ancestry derived from indica, aus, and japonica cultivated rice as well as possible contributions from weedy rice from the southern United States and wild rice. Because this diverse parentage primarily consists of weedy, wild, and cultivated rice not found in California, most existing weedy rice biotypes likely originated outside California
What’s new? A first appraisal of the Juncker Commission
Although still in its early phases, the Juncker Commission has already broken new ground. Not only is Jean-Claude Juncker the first Commission President to be selected by the Spitzenkandidaten process, an extra-constitutional system that has reconfigured the European Union’s institutional balance, but he has transformed the structure and operation of the College in order to create a more political, and therefore more effective, Commission, and made good – so far – on his promise ‘to do better on the bigger things and be small on the small things’. This article examines this three-fold transformation. It looks at the innovations and change associated with the Juncker Commission. It considers what motivated them and how they were achieved, sets them in historical perspective, and discusses their implications for the institutions and for the EU more broadly
Laser ultrasound for the study of thin sheets
Laser ultrasound is now an accepted and mature technology. However it is still seeking its first fully commercial industrial application although there are several potential uses in prototype form. The major advantage of laser ultrasound is that it is a non contact technique and can therefore be used on hot or moving components. The pulsed laser source generates simultaneously longitudinal and shear bulk waves and Rayleigh surface waves. When the material is in the form of a thin sheet the latter propagate as Lamb or plate waves providing the ultrasonic wavelength is greater than the sheet thickness
Decoration in Praying Hall of Mosque: A Review of Current Literature
AbstractThe most intention of decorating the interior of the mosque is to create of feeling remembering Allah. The challenge is to avoid the wasteful as well the negative impact to users. Among of Islamic scholars agreed the decoration in the interior of mosque shall be done in a moderate way since is has not been prohibited in Islam. This paper intended to search the literature on the function of decoration of the interior of the mosque as well its effects towards people either negative or positive way. The significance of this paper is to identify the best way in decorating of the interior of the mosque
Holographic Screening Length in a Hot Plasma of Two Sphere
We study the screening length of a quark-antiquark pair moving in a hot
plasma living in two sphere manifold using AdS/CFT correspondence where
the background metric is four dimensional Schwarzschild-AdS black hole. The
geodesic solution of the string ends at the boundary is given by a stationary
motion in the equatorial plane as such the separation length of
quark-antiquark pair is parallel to the angular velocity . The
screening length and the bound energy are computed numerically using
Mathematica. We find that the plots are bounded from below by some functions
related to the momentum transfer of the drag force configuration. We
compare the result by computing the screening length in the quark-antiquark
reference frame where the gravity dual are "Boost-AdS" and Kerr-AdS black
holes. Finding relations of the parameters of both black holes, we argue that
the relation between mass parameters of the Schwarzschild-AdS black
hole and of the Kerr-AdS black hole in high temperature is given by
, where is the angular momentum
parameter.Comment: Major revision: title changed, adding authors, 13 pages, 8 figures,

The New Political Economy of EU State Aid Policy
Despite its importance and singularity, the EU’s state aid policy has attracted less scholarly attention than other elements of EU competition policy. Introducing the themes addressed by the special issue, this article briefly reviews the development of EU policy and highlights why the control of state aid matters. The Commission’s response to the current economic crisis notably in banking and the car industry is a key concern, but the interests of the special issue go far beyond. They include: the role of the European Commission in the development of EU policy, the politics of state aid, and a clash between models of capitalism. The special issue also examines the impact of EU policy. It investigates how EU state aid decisions affect not only industrial policy at the national level (and therefore at the EU level), but the welfare state and territorial relations within federal member states, the external implications of EU action and the strategies pursued by the Commission to limit any potential disadvantage to European firms, and the conflict between the EU’s expanding legal order and national
