Orbital trauma with a large wooden foreign body: a case report
Introduction: Injuries caused by a foreign bodies in the craniofacial region constitute a significant percentage of accidents during the work. The most serious problem is to determine the exact location and extent of damage caused by a foreign body. The aim of work is to present a scheme of conduct in case of a foreign body inside the eye socket.
Matherials and methods: Describes a case of a patient with an injury caused by a wooden foreign body. The circumstances of occurrence, ophthalmic and surgical actions taken in order to remove it were included. A lot of attention has been paid to prevention of intraocular infections.
Results: Patient did not find both post-traumatic and postoperative ophthalmic nerve injuries.
Summary: The most important for healing process is exact removal of the foreign body and prophylaxis of infections. In addition to treatment, it is important to educate the patient in the prevention of this type of injury
An odontoma causing a delay in teeth eruption in an 11-year old boy. Case report
Odontomas are the benign tumors, which are usually discovered by chance in radiographic images taken because of anomalies such as delayed eruption of teeth or malocclusion. Case study shows the course of diagnosis of an asymptomatic odontoma in youth, followed by a failure in teeth development
Dislocation of mandible in 48 year old patient - the continuation of a therapy
Dislocation of a temporomandible joint (TMJ) is a rare disfunction, which has multiform background divided into imbalance in the function of neuromascular component or structural deficit.
A 48-year-old woman was admitted to the Department of Maxillo-Facial Surgery of the Medical University of Lublin due to continuation of a treatment of TMJ dislocation. Previous hospitalization was performed a few months earlier. Reposition in general anaesthesia was used as a treatment, however it ended up with defeat. Current hospitalization with open surgery reposition was scheduled. Bilateral condylectomy was prosecuted. After surgery correct movability and proper anterior-posterior placement of mandible were achieved
When words hurt … literally. A case report of temporomandibular joint dislocation in a patient with Tourette’s syndrome
Tourette's syndrome is a disease from the borderlands of psychiatry and neurology. Its course consists of chronic motor tics, vocal tics or vocalizations. The first symptoms appear in childhood or adolescence. Tics may cause body injuries. In this case, tics probably have contributed dislocation of the temporomandibular joints
Osteomyelitis of the mandible in the patient with plasmocytoma – case report
Osteomyelitis is an infection of bone which may be caused by infection carried to the bone via the bloodstream or from surrounding tissue. Treatment of osteomyelitis of the mandible is extremely difficult because of oral environment and teeth presence. Management often involves both debridement and antibiotic selection. Despite this, aggressive surgical interventions and conservative therapy are most important aspects of treatment.Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is an avascular necrosis related to osteomyelitis and characterized by necrotic bone in the maxillofacial region. The prevalence of this is associated with treatment with high-potency bisphosphonates or denosumab and it seems to be getting increasingly frequent. Due to lack of prospective studies with long-term follow-up there are no recommendation for treatment of MRNOJ. The main aim of treatment of patients with MRNOJ is to continue and to support oncological treatment as well as to provide patient education, comfort to life, control of pain and to prevent from secondary infection and development of new areas of necrosis
Influence of physical activity on cancer development, treatment and prophylaxis
Activation of the growth factors pathways is involved in cell growth and proliferation and is associated with carcinogenesis. Many studies have shown an increase in blood growth factors concentrations after training. On the other hand, numerous organisations recommend physical activity in cancer therapy and prophylaxis. This two phenomena may actually cause confusion. The aim of this paper was to present findings on the significance of physical activity in course of neoplastic disease and dispel doubts concerning its role in cancer treatment

ABSTRACT
Atrial septal defect may be seen under few forms. The most common is ASD secundarum – about 70% of defects. Coexistent non-obstructed foramen ovale with atrial septal defect venosus type IVC – SV is very rare. Untreated atrial septal defect can be associated with numerous complications and with significantly shortened life expectancy. Patients with the increased left-to-right shunting may occasionally present congestive heart failure with pulmonary hypertension in their fourth to sixth decades of life. Late problems in untreated patients also include the risk of paradoxical embolus as well as atrial fibrillation, pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure. The presented medical case is an example of a very rare clinical disease in which a complex heart defect within the atrial septum is asymptomatic, does not give any complications and does not require treatment
Echocardiographic assessment of mediastinal tumor - a case report
The mediastinum is the central area of the thoracic cavity which is divided into anterior, middle and posterior section. Medisatinal masses are usually asymptomatic. They can be detected accidentally in planned imaging studies. Echocardiography is safe, cheap, quick and non-invasive investigation, which can be useful in the diagnosis of this type of changes
THE RELATION BETWEEN EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND INTERNET ADDICTION IN KATOWICE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Backgroud: Emotional intelligence (EI) is described as the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one\u27s emotions, and to
handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. It is considered as one of the most important predictors of
success, quality of relationships, and overall happiness. Dynamically changing environment of the youth and young adults in recent
years may influence their EI development, affecting their lives significantly. The purpose of this study was to analyse the way how the
Internet is used by high school students, to determine the amount of time they spend on the Internet, identify the level of EI and to
explore if there is any correlation between those factors.
Subjects and methods: 1450 high school students from Katowice, at the age from 18 to 21 years took part in an anonymous
survey consisting of three parts: The Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire – Short Form (TEIQue-SF), Internet Addiction Test
and authorial test giving information about the way of spending time online. The questionnaires were collected from May 2018 to
January 2019.
Results: 1.03% of the respondents fulfilled the Internet addiction criteria. Students at risk for addiction (33.5%) turned out to be
a larger group. A statistically significant correlation between TEIQue-SF and Internet Addiction Test score (P<0.0001, r=-0.3308)
was observed. Another significant correlation was found between TEIQue-SF score and amount of time spend on the Internet
(p<0.0001, r=-0.162).
Conclusion: A significant part of high school students used Internet excessively. Such behaviours were positively correlated with
lower EI test results
