Multiple driving forces of paddy land conversion: a lesson from Malaysia’s rice bowl state

    Get PDF
Land is an important but finite natural resource, crucial for numerous human activities such as for settlement, transportation, forestry, agriculture, animal husbandry, industry and recreation. Land can be seen as parallel to economic growth. With a rapid growth in development and urbanisation, there is an increase need for land and for that paddy land face with the paradox of allocation for agricultural and non-agricultural sector. The allocation of land for optimal agricultural use has become a paramount issue. This paper tries to analyse the revolution of paddy land in Kedah, what drives the conversion that resulted it, so that preservation mechanism on paddy land can be outlined in the future

BOOK REVIEW ISLAM AND ECOLOGY: A BESTOWED TRUST

The themes of this hefty tome, consisting of twenty-three essays, preceded by prefaces and introductions, are closely connected with the May 1998 conference on Islam and ecology, which was held in the framework of a series of gatherings on the stance of the world’s religious traditions towards today’s environmental crisis, hosted by the Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard University between 1996 and 1998. The editors of this volume must be credited with giving the contributors opportunity to present the most up-to-date essays, which must have been quite a strain on the editing process of an ambitious project like this

Karakter Religius Dalam al-Qur’an: Studi Analisis Tafsir Ayat-ayat Akhlak Dalam Al-Qur’an

    Get PDF
Al-Qur'an as a holy book with three roles, namely as a guide (al-huda), an explanation of these instructions (al-bayyinah), and a distinction between rights and vanity (al-furqan), is a solution to deal with various problems that arise. in today's society. This research aims to. First, to find the concept of religiosity in the Qur'an. Second, looking for a relationship between the morals in the Qur'an and the cultivation of religious character. Third, enriching the treasures of Islamic scholarship regarding the values of religiosity and morals. The method used in this study is a qualitative method that focuses on literature review with descriptive analysis that describes, explains and analyzes data in a detailed and informative manner. The research used comes from primary and secondary data including books of interpretation, both tahlili and maudhu'i, moral books both salaf and modern, books on science and technology and their implications as well as journals and websites that are relevant to the discussion. The results of this study can be concluded that there are many verses of the Qur'an relating to morals. The author only lists a few. The verses relating to these morals and their interpretations become standardization in the formation of religious character, by doing and getting used to things that are ordered or recommended and leaving everything that is prohibited by the Qur'an. With this standardization, religious character values emerge, including: idealism, youth struggle and pioneering, having a pattern of logical and critical thinking, being responsible for actions, daring to accept punishment, youth's firmness in defending the faith, and so on

Comparison of Performance based on Power of Energy Encryption in Medium Field for Wireless Power Transfer System

    Get PDF
Encryption is a very important technique used to protect energy transmission channels from an unauthorized receiver. It can be utilized to transmit data securely over the wireless medium. Encryption techniques of wireless power transfer (WPT) are important in the research on the effects of security key for security of energy transfer to the authorized receiver. The energy encryption scheme of WPT is proposed to chaos theory. Chaos theory is applicable to the logistic map to propose as a security key to chaotically regulate the switching frequency. Furthermore, for chaos theory characteristic effect power and distance performance. Therefore, this paper investigates mainly effective power based on mobile charging application. This research is focusing on performance on power of energy encryption in medium field for wireless power transfer system. This research is dedicated to the comparison of performance in power based on mobile charging application. The optimization to transport the power in this research based on comparison of power is 10W. The research utilized MATLAB simulation to compare the performance

Techno-Economic Feasibility to Generate Electricity by Using PSO Technique for the Urban City in Iraq: Case Study

    Get PDF
For developing nations such as Iraq, electricity access in rural areas, especially those which are remote, is limited. Thus, the present study explores the electrical needs of the city of Zerbattiya, Iraq. The proposed system’s components include solar panels, wind turbines, diesel generators, and batteries. This research proposes a techno-economically feasible and optimal sizing for each component to generate electricity for the village. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was used in this research by using MATLAB. The ideal setting of a hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) is achieved by considering the lowest possible COE with the highest reliability and possible value of renewable energy factors. Reliability is gauged on the basis of “loss of power supply probability†(LPSP). Results showed that the respective optimal values for NPV (30), NWT (30), NDG (3), NBT (281), COE (US$0.142), LPSP (0.002085), reliability (99.791) and renewable factors (21.42%). The findings further demonstrate that the algorithm was able to achieve optimal solutions to reduce overall cost, quickly and accurately. In conclusion, implementation of HRES was found to be an apt method of meeting electrical needs of remote rural areas, not only in Iraq, but also other developing nations with similar climates

    Pull-Out Resistance of Sand-Geosynthetics Reinforcement

    Get PDF
Geosynthetics are widely used in earth retaining structures such as steep slope and earth retaining wall. The stability of the earth retaining structures depends on the interaction between geosynthetics and soil at the reinforced area known as reinforcement mechanism. The reinforcement mechanism of the soil reinforced structure usually difficult to be analysed thoroughly. It is because the preliminary study on the pull-out resistance and durability of the reinforcement material is not taking into account before it has been used to the site location especially in Malaysian practises. Less supervision and the assessment after the installation of the reinforcement materials also contributed to the failure of the soil reinforcement. In this paper, the laboratory model was used to imply the real condition of the soil reinforced structure using pull-out test. A standard pull-out test was carried out by using geotextile and geogrid reinforcing elements embedded into silica sand of size D50=1.357 mm and D50=0.571 mm subjected to normal pressures of 100 kPa, 150 kPa and 200 kPa. Comparative result and analysis showed that the geotextile reinforcement give more resistance rather than geogrid reinforcement under high normal pressure
