    Iinfluence of Main Technological Parameters of Drying on Quality of Bagasse From Carrot and Beet

    The work studies the drying process of vegetable bagasse, namely of carrot and beet. There is studied the moisture content kinetics of vegetable bagasse and determined the dependence of the process duration on main technological parameters in the work of a vibration vacuum dryer, namely, an amplitude and frequency. There were studied quality parameters of obtained concentrated products, namely the colorimetric estimation of dried bagasse of carrot and beet. Based on obtained results of the study, it was established, that the use of vibration in the process of drying bagasse favors conservation and formation of colorimetric characteristics of a dried product. Determined color characteristics gave a possibility to establish, that at thermal processing it is very important to decrease the drying process duration and temperature. Research data proved prospects of producing concentrated products, namely, dried bagasse of carrot and beet by the offered method. It allows to regulate quality parameters of a ready product: color, brightness, consistence, viscosity and physical-chemical properties. Obtained concentrated products are characterized with high organoleptic indices, food value. This product may be used in the wide spectrum of food industry, such as, for example: juice supplement, stuff for confectionary mass, filling for confectionary products, as biological supplement for healthy nutrition

    Ferromagnetic Ga₁ˍₓ Mnₓ As produced by ion implantation and pulsed-laser melting

    We demonstrate the formation of ferromagneticGa₁ˍₓMnₓAsfilms by Mn ion implantation into GaAs followed by pulsed-laser melting. Irradiation with a single excimer laser pulse results in the epitaxial regrowth of the implanted layer with Mn substitutional fraction up to 80% and effective Curie temperature up to 29 K for samples with a maximum Mn concentration of x≈0.03. A remanent magnetization persisting above 85 K has been observed for samples with x≈0.10, in which 40% of the Mn resides on substitutional lattice sites.     Pervasive body sensor network: an approach to monitoring the post-operative surgical patient

    Patients recovering from abdominal surgery are at risk of complications due to reduced mobility as a result of post-operative pain. The ability to pervasively monitor the recovery of this group of patients and identify those at risk of developing complications is therefore clinically desirable, which may result in an early intervention to prevent adverse outcomes. This paper describes the development and evaluation of a pervasive network of body sensors developed for monitoring the recovery of post-operative patients both in the hospital and homecare settings. © 2006 IEEE

    A model checking approach to the parameter estimation of biochemical pathways

    Model checking has historically been an important tool to verify models of a wide variety of systems. Typically a model has to exhibit certain properties to be classed ‘acceptable’. In this work we use model checking in a new setting; parameter estimation. We characterise the desired behaviour of a model in a temporal logic property and alter the model to make it conform to the property (determined through model checking). We have implemented a computational system called MC2(GA) which pairs a model checker with a genetic algorithm. To drive parameter estimation, the fitness of set of parameters in a model is the inverse of the distance between its actual behaviour and the desired behaviour. The model checker used is the simulation-based Monte Carlo Model Checker for Probabilistic Linear-time Temporal Logic with numerical constraints, MC2(PLTLc). Numerical constraints as well as the overall probability of the behaviour expressed in temporal logic are used to minimise the behavioural distance. We define the theory underlying our parameter estimation approach in both the stochastic and continuous worlds. We apply our approach to biochemical systems and present an illustrative example where we estimate the kinetic rate constants in a continuous model of a signalling pathway

    Deteksi Gen Nrps Aktinomisetes Simbion Rumput Laut dan Karang Lunak

    Aktinomicetes merupakan bakteri Gram positif dengan kandungan GC yang tinggi dan dikenal sebagai penghasil senyawa metabolit sekunder. Namun potensi aktinomicetes laut terutama dari lingkungan laut masih sangat terbatas dikembangkan. Penelitian yang telah dilaksanakan menyatakan bahwa telah diketahui adanya asosiasi antara bakteri Gram positif yang diduga kuat adalah aktinomisetes dengan rumput laut dan softcoral. Sehingga dari hasil penelitian ini dapat dilanjutkan untuk deteksi dini gen penyandi penghasil senyawa metabolit sekunder kelas PKSs dan NRPSs dan uji aktivitasnya sebagai antioksidan. Deteksi gen PKS I dan NRPS ini dilakukan untuk mencari isolat aktinomisetes yang mempunyai potensi sistem biosintetik senyawa poliketida dan non ribosomal peptida. Sampel untuk penelitian ini diambil dari perairan Pangandaran, Jawa Barat. Sampel yang diperoleh adalah rumput laut, lamun. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini mulai dari analisa mikrobiologi (isolasi aktinomicetes, uji Gram) , analisa molekuler (rep-PCR , PCR gen NRPS). Berdasarkan penelitian ini diperoleh total aktinomicetes sebanyak 90, dengan keragaman genetik bervariasi koefisien similaritas hingga 1. Koefisien similaritas 1 menunjukkan kekerabatan genetik yang dekat dan koefisien similaritas kurang dari 1 menunjukkan kekerabatan genetik yang jauh. Hasil PCR gen NRPS diperoleh 6 isolat terdeteksi pembawa gen NRPS

    Ultra-low energy scattering of a He atom off a He dimer

    We present a new, mathematically rigorous, method suitable for bound state and scattering processes calculations for various three atomic or molecular systems where the underlying forces are of a hard-core nature. We employed this method to calculate the binding energies and the ultra-low energy scattering phase shifts below as well as above the break-up threshold for the three He-atom system. The method is proved to be highly successful and suitable for solving the three-body bound state and scattering problem in configuration space and thus it paves the way to study various three-atomic systems, and to calculate important quantities such as the cross-sections, recombination rates etc.Comment: LaTeX, RevTeX and amssymb styles, 7 pages (25 Kb), 3 table

    Nearly optimal solutions for the Chow Parameters Problem and low-weight approximation of halfspaces

    The \emph{Chow parameters} of a Boolean function f:{1,1}n{1,1}f: \{-1,1\}^n \to \{-1,1\} are its n+1n+1 degree-0 and degree-1 Fourier coefficients. It has been known since 1961 (Chow, Tannenbaum) that the (exact values of the) Chow parameters of any linear threshold function ff uniquely specify ff within the space of all Boolean functions, but until recently (O'Donnell and Servedio) nothing was known about efficient algorithms for \emph{reconstructing} ff (exactly or approximately) from exact or approximate values of its Chow parameters. We refer to this reconstruction problem as the \emph{Chow Parameters Problem.} Our main result is a new algorithm for the Chow Parameters Problem which, given (sufficiently accurate approximations to) the Chow parameters of any linear threshold function ff, runs in time \tilde{O}(n^2)\cdot (1/\eps)^{O(\log^2(1/\eps))} and with high probability outputs a representation of an LTF ff' that is \eps-close to ff. The only previous algorithm (O'Donnell and Servedio) had running time \poly(n) \cdot 2^{2^{\tilde{O}(1/\eps^2)}}. As a byproduct of our approach, we show that for any linear threshold function ff over {1,1}n\{-1,1\}^n, there is a linear threshold function ff' which is \eps-close to ff and has all weights that are integers at most \sqrt{n} \cdot (1/\eps)^{O(\log^2(1/\eps))}. This significantly improves the best previous result of Diakonikolas and Servedio which gave a \poly(n) \cdot 2^{\tilde{O}(1/\eps^{2/3})} weight bound, and is close to the known lower bound of max{n,\max\{\sqrt{n}, (1/\eps)^{\Omega(\log \log (1/\eps))}\} (Goldberg, Servedio). Our techniques also yield improved algorithms for related problems in learning theory
