The acquisition of more than two language systems leads to the development of new skills such as learning how to learn it also facilitates subsequent additional language acquisition as learners use metalinguistic awareness to explore the cognitive and linguistic mechanisms underlying language. (Maghsoudi and Talebi, 2008) In the present study by employing the one-way ANOVA and t=test results indicated that bilingual students performed significantly better than monolingual students in General English Proficiency. It further indicated that there wasn’t any difference between monolingual male and female in General English Proficiency

Angela Carter was an English fiction writer and journalist. Her female protagonists often take an empowered roles where they rise up against oppression and fight for both sexual and political equality. The concepts within this movement relating specifically to the ideologies of radical-libertarian feminist, and regarding the extent to which she promotes feminist due to her style, referred to as "Galm-Rock" feminism. Carter began experimenting with writing fairy tales in 1970, which coincided with the period of second wave feminism in the Unites States. The majority of Angela Carter's work revolve around a specific type of feminism, radical libertarian feminism and her critique of the patriarchal role that have been placed on women. In this article, the main concentrate is on heroine's internalized consciousness which echoes in their behavior. All of the female protagonists in carter's short stories; such as The Courtship of Mr. Lyon, The Tiger's Bride, The snow child and mainly in The Bloody chamber have similar characteristics with different conditions, in which they are represented in a very negative light with less than ideal roles. In these stories, the protagonist is a young girl who has many conflicts with love and desire. Carter attempts to encourage women to do something about this degrading representation

The Interaction between Iranian EFL Learners’ Interest in Reading Comprehension Topics and their Reading Comprehension Ability

According to Anderson (2003), reading is the interaction of four things including the reader, the text, the fluent reading or the ability or read at an appropriate rate with adequate comprehension, and strategic reading, or the ability of the reader to use a variety of reading strategies to accomplish a purpose for reading (p. 8). Discovering the best methods and techniques or processes the learners choose to access, is the goal of research in reading strategies. This article reports on an empirical study that examines the learner’s ability in reading comprehension. On the other hand, the important issue which the researchers mentioned was attention to genders’ interest in different topics in reading comprehension. So, the study was carried out at two high schools in Markazi province. The results has shown that female and male students were not different in general reading comprehension, however male learners could answer male based text better than female learners while female learners had priority in female based text

Background: Drug treatment is one of the most important treatments for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The DRD4 gene is a transporter and receptor coding gene of dopamine and is one of the most important genes under investigation in the disorder and etiology of ADHD. In this study, the association between rs3758653 C/T and VNTR exon 3 repetition polymorphisms of the DRD4 gene and the effects of methylphenidate were investigated in patients with ADHD disorder consuming methylphenidate. Methods: The descriptive-analytical study was performed on 122 patients (5 - 18 years old) with ADHD who were treated with methylphenidate. DNA was extracted using salting out method. Subsequently, the rs3758653 polymorphism in the 5’UTR region of DRD4 gene was genotyped by PCR-RFLP method, and the VNTR fragment in exon III of DRD4 gene was investigated by electrophoresis gel on acrylamide gel method. After eight weeks from the start of drug treatment with methylphenidate, the intensity of symptoms was evaluated using the Conners scale. Finally, all data from questionnaires and information that were resulted from laboratory findings were analyzed using ANOVA and repeated measure analysis. Results: Of the 122 patients under study, 15 patients (12.3%) were responded to the drug treatment, and 107 patients (87.7%) were not responded. The significant differences were not revealed in genotype, and allele frequencies of between rs3758653 (C/T) and exon III 3’VNTR repeats polymorphisms of the DRD4 gene and responder and non-responder of ADHD groups to the drug treatment. Conclusions: The results showed that the reduction of ADHD symptoms with drug treatment is not related to DRD4 sub-types in patients with ADHD
