    Nonlinear optics in Xe-filled hollow-core PCF in high pressure and supercritical regimes

    Supercritical Xe at 293 K offers a Kerr nonlinearity that can exceed that of fused silica while being free of Raman scattering. It also has a much higher optical damage threshold and a transparency window that extends from the UV to the infrared. We report the observation of nonlinear phenomena, such as self-phase modulation, in hollow-core photonic crystal fiber filled with supercritical Xe. In the subcritical regime, intermodal four-wave-mixing resulted in the generation of UV light in the HE12 mode. The normal dispersion of the fiber at high pressures means that spectral broadening can clearly obtained without influence from soliton effects or material damage

    Analisis Kesalahan Penggunaan Ejaan Dalam Karangan Narasi Siswa Kelas X SMA Swasta Taman Siswa Binjai Tahun Pembelajaran 2016/2017

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan mengklasifikasikan bentuk kesalahan penggunaan ejaan yang terdapat dalam karangan narasi siswa kelas X SMA Swasta Taman Siswa Binjai tahun pembelajaran 2016/2017, mendeskripsikan kesalahan ejaan yang paling dominan dilakukan siswa dalam karangan narasi yang diproduksi tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut. Pertama, Jumlah kesalahan penggunaan ejaan yang terdapat dalam karangan siswa mencapai 945 (17,67%) kesalahan dari 5.349 ejaan yang seharusnya diproduksi. Bentuk kesalahan ejaan dibedakan menjadi enam aspek, yaitu kesalahan pada tataran penggunaan huruf kapital, penggunaan kata berimbuhan, penggunaan kata depan, penggunaan unsur serapan, penggunaan tanda baca titik, dan penggunaan tanda baca koma. Dari keenam aspek tersebut ditemukan 570 (48,76%) kesalahan penggunaan huruf kapital, 101 (6,33%) kesalahan penggunaan kata berimbuhan, 83 (31,20%) kesalahan penggunaan kata depan, 63 (6,16%) kesalahan penggunaan unsur serapan, 27 (3,57%) kesalahan penggunaan tanda baca titik, dan 101 (18,70%) kesalahan penggunaan tanda baca koma. Kedua, Dari persentasi kesalahan tersebut, kesalahan pada tataran penggunaan huruf kapital merupakan kesalahan yang paling dominan dilakukan oleh siswa, yaitu mencapai 570 (48,76%) kesalahan dari 1.169 huruf kapital yang seharusnya diproduksi. Selanjutnya, kesalahan yang paling sedikit terjadi adalah kesalahan penggunaan tanda baca titik yang mencapai 27 (3,57%) kesalahan dari 756 tanda baca titik yang seharusnya diproduksi

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kualitas dari nilai reabilitas, validitas, tingkat kesukaran, daya pembeda, tingkat distaktornya dan sebaran butir soal try out fisika kelas XII SMA Negeri se-Kota Pekanbaru menggunakan program analisis butir soal. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah lembar jawaban objektif soal try out siswa. Instrumen pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah program analisis butir soal. Analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis butir soal. Dari analisis data menunjukkan : validitas soal hanya 28 soal (70%) yang valid dari 40 butir soal dan reabilitas tes 0.86. Hasil analisis data ini menunjukkan bahwa soal tidak valid tetapi realibel. Dengan demikian, kualitas soal try out harus lebih ditingkatkan

    Prevalence of complementary alternative medicine use among patients with type II diabetes in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia

    The uses of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) among patients with chronic diseases are becoming increasingly popular. This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in 45 government health clinics across Negeri Sembilan. Respondents at diabetes clinics were selected via systematic random sampling and interviewed using structured questionnaire. CAM usage was divided into three groups; CAM use for diabetes (CAM-DM), CAM use for general health (CAM-G) and Non CAM user. The prevalent use of CAM among type II diabetes mellitus patients in Negeri Sembilan was 58.5% (CAM-DM: 40.6% and CAM-G: 17.9%). For CAM-DM group, bitter gourd (Momordica charantia) was the most popular CAM consumed to help control diabetes, while supplement milk was the most popular choice for the CAM-G group. In conclusion, the use of CAM among type II diabetes mellitus patients in Negeri Sembilan was common. Natural products are the main choice of CAM modality used to help with the management of diabetes. Majority of CAM users never informed their healthcare providers about their CAM use

    Audit of postoperative nausea and vomiting in paediatric day case surgery

    OBJECTIVE: To assess the incidence of PONV, delay in discharge or unplanned admissions in paediatric surgical cases done at the Surgical Day Care Unit at Aga Khan University between January and July 2009. METHODS: All paediatric ASA 1-2 cases, from 6 months to 18 years of age undergoing day case surgeries at the Surgical day care unit were included in this retrospective audit. Data was collected on a designed form filled with information from preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative recovery forms. Any relevant data was also noted from nurses notes in recovery room and step down unit. Episodes of vomiting, delay in discharge, or unplanned admission due to PONV were documented. Data was analyzed on SPSS 14. RESULTS: Out of 163 patients only one patient (0.6%) had an episode of vomiting in the recovery room and two patients (1.2 %) had vomiting in the step down unit. There was no delay in discharge or unplanned admission due to PONV in paediatric day cases during the period of our audit. CONCLUSION: The incidence of postoperative vomiting in paediatric day cases at our day care unit does not justify polymodal prophylaxis as a protocol for PONV

    The heart is one of vital organs in human body. Incidence of heart disease can be fatal for the patient. Myocardial ischemia, the disease that is often suffered by the human, is a disease due to clogged heart arteries blood vessels. One of the ways to detect this disease is by reading the graph output of electrocardiogram (ECG) signal. ECG signal represents the condition and activity of the heart. Specialized knowledge, accuration and expertise are required to read ECG graph. To help expert or doctor, expert system based on artificial intelligent, such as Fuzzy Logic approach, can be applied to improve diagnostic accuracy and thoroughness. Fuzzy logic can be applied because of it flexibility to understand the linguistic variables used in identifying myocardial ischemia disease
