In this study, we collected woody plants of Papilionoideae, Leguminosae, in the northwest region of São Paulo state, southeastern Brazil. The study area has one of the most fragmented vegetation within the context of the region, and it is still poorly known about the flora. Nineteen species were recorded in eleven genera and three tribes. The most representative tribes were Sophoreae, with the genus Bowdichia, Leptolobium, Myroxylon, Sweetia and Ormosia; tribe Dalbergieae, with Andira, Centrolobium, Machaerium and Platypodium, and tribe Dipterygeae represented by Dipteryx and Pterodon. Machaerium presented the highest number of species, with eight, followed by Leptolobium, with two species. The other genera were represented by one species each. The species distribution data showed that the regional flora consists of species with wide distribution in the Cerrado, in central Brazil, and species that occur primarily in the Atlantic forest in eastern Brazil. A comparative study on anatomical characters of the leaflets of all species of Myrocarpus, Myroxylon and Myrospermum was carried out in order to evaluate their potential value in taxonomy. The study showed that among the investigated characters the arrangement of the main vascular bundles as seen in transverse section, the presence or absence of secretary structures in the midrib, the occurrence and position of papillose epidermal cells, and mesophyll organization present meaningful variation between the species and in combination or uniquely their occurrence can be used to identify the species. Some of the obtained anatomical data support generic or specific circumscriptions and are listed for the first time for most of the species of Myrocarpus, Myroxylon and Myrospermum. © The Linnean Society of London.1403249259Baas, P., Anatomical contributions to plant anatomy. Leguminosae Em Um Gradiente Altitudinal Na Floresta Atlântica Do Parque Estadual Da Serra Do Mar, São Paulo, Brasil

Studies on floristic and structural variations of forests in relation to altitude have contributed to the knowledge of patterns and causes of spatial distribution of plants in the Atlantic Forest. Geographical variables such as latitude, longitude and altitude result in different vegetation types, which limits newly established are not consensus. In the north coast of São Paulo state altitudes vary from the Restinga Forest, near the sea level, to the vegetation at the top of Cuscuzeiro Mountain at 1,279 m altitude. In order to evaluate the richness, taxonomic diversity, floristic similarity and the potential indicator of Leguminosae in the characterization of different vegetation types of Atlantic Forest on the northern coast of São Paulo, a matrix with the presence and absence of 142 species, in 15 different altitudinal belts was built. The greatest species richness was observed in the Restinga Forest (0-10 m), with 84 species, and in Montane Forest (500-1,200 m), with 69 species. The altitudinal belt with the highest number of tree species was 10-50 m, with 34 species. In the higher altitudes that number was significantly lower with six species of 1,100-1,200 m, and no species above this quota. The cluster analysis (Jaccard index) showed dissimilarity of the belts 0-10 m and 1,100-1,200 m in relation to the intermediate belts. The Lowland Forest and Submontane share the largest number of species (25). Some species characterize certain formations or have their preferred environment located at a specific elevation, as is the case of Abarema brachystachya and Inga subnuda (0-20 m), Inga lanceifolia, Inga mendoncaei and Ormosia minor (800-1,200 m). Distinguished for occupying all the phytophysiognomies: Abarema langsdorffii and Senna macranthera. Leguminosae, although well adapted to the first colonization and exploration of diverse environment, was poorly represented above 1,100 m altitude. © 2016, Universidade Estadual de Campinas UNICAMP. This paper presents a floristic survey of Caesalpinioideae in Serra do Japi, located in the southeastern of São Paulo state. Eighteen species belonging to nine genera and four tribes were inventoried. Senna (6 spp.) and Chamaecrista (4 spp.) were the most diverse genera and Cassieae (11 spp.) the most representative tribe. Nine new records for the area have been recognized. The species found have wide distribution in the phytogeographic areas of the country, except two exclusive species of the Atlantic Forest. The flora in Serra do Japi holds around 20% of the species of Caesalpinioideae registered in the State, reinforcing the importance of the conservation of this forest as an important pole of diversity. Identification keys, illustrations and comments about the species are presented.653751765Andrade, T.M., Piedade, M.T.F., Lopes, A., Caracterizac¸ão fitossociológica da vegetac¸ão arbórea de uma microbacia hidrográfica na Serra do Japi, Jundiaí, SP (2012) Novos Olhares, Novos Saberes Sobre a Serra Do Japi: Ecos de Sua Biodiversidade, pp. 75-96. , Vasconcellos-Neto J.Polli, P.R. & Penteado-Dias (orgs.). Low pollen quality can be associated with irregularities of species reproduction. Microsporogenesis, chromosome number, meiotic behaviour and meiotic index were investigated in Mucuna japira and M. urens in order to ascertain whether pollen could limit fertilization events, once M. japira shows low fruit set (2.7%), while in M. urens the fruit set is much higher (11.0%), thus a high rate of fruit abortion occurs in M. japira. Both species have dimorphous anthers, and the timing of microsporogenesis and pollen release varies in the two sets of stamens. The microspore mother cells are vacuolated, with granulose cytoplasm, prominent nucleus and nucleolus and a callose wall. Tetrads are tetrahedric with a thick callose wall. Mature pollen grains are tricolpate, the exine sculpture is reticulated and its viability is 92.2% for M. japira and 97.8% for M.urens. The chromosome number of these species is n=11, being this the first report for both of them, and further this number corroborates the position of Mucuna in Phaseoleae. The most frequent abnormalities recorded at the tetrad stage of both species were pentads, empty/or irregular tetrads with cells of different sizes. The meiotic index for both species is above 90. Once microsporogenesis, pollen morphology and pollen grain viability are normal and similar in M. japira and in M. urens these features are not related with the high rate of fruit abortion of M. japira.591-26169Agostini, K., (2008) Ecologia Da Reprodução De Duas Espécies De Mucuna (Leguminosae, Faboideae, Phaseoleae) - Embriologia, Citogenética E Variabilidade Genética - Do Litoral Norte De São Paulo, , Ph.
