Precision mass measurements of radioactive nuclei at JYFLTRAP

    Get PDF
The Penning trap mass spectrometer JYFLTRAP was used to measure the atomic masses of radioactive nuclei with an uncertainty better than 10 keV. The atomic masses of the neutron-deficient nuclei around the N = Z line were measured to improve the understanding of the rp-process path and the SbSnTe cycle. Furthermore, the masses of the neutron-rich gallium (Z = 31) to palladium (Z = 46) nuclei have been measured. The physics impacts on the nuclear structure and the r-process paths are reviewed. A better understanding of the nuclear deformation is presented by studying the pairing energy around A = 100.Comment: 4 pages and 4 figures, RNB7 conf. pro

Can Measurements of Electric Dipole Moments Determine the Seesaw Parameters?

    Get PDF
In the context of the supersymmetrized seesaw mechanism embedded in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), complex neutrino Yukawa couplings can induce Electric Dipole Moments (EDMs) for the charged leptons, providing an additional route to seesaw parameters. However, the complex neutrino Yukawa matrix is not the only possible source of CP violation. Even in the framework of Constrained MSSM (CMSSM), there are additional sources, usually attributed to the phases of the trilinear soft supersymmetry breaking couplings and the mu-term, which contribute not only to the electron EDM but also to the EDMs of neutron and heavy nuclei. In this work, by combining bounds on various EDMs, we analyze how the sources of CP violation can be discriminated by the present and planned EDM experiments.Comment: 26 pages, 9 figures; added reference

Lepton flavour violation in future linear colliders in the long-lived stau NLSP scenario

    Get PDF
We analyze the prospects of observing lepton flavour violation in future e-e- and e+e- linear colliders in scenarios where the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle, and the stau is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle. The signals consist of multilepton final states with two heavily ionizing charged tracks produced by the long-lived staus. The Standard Model backgrounds are very small and the supersymmetric backgrounds can be kept well under control by the use of suitable kinematical cuts. We discuss in particular the potential of the projected International Linear Collider to discover lepton flavour violation in this class of scenarios, and we compare the estimated sensitivity with the constraints stemming from the non-observation of rare decays.Comment: 30 pages, 12 figures. Discussion extended to include the efficiency of identifying long-lived staus, references added. To appear in JHE

CP and Lepton-Number Violation in GUT Neutrino Models with Abelian Flavour Symmetries

    Get PDF
We study the possible magnitudes of CP and lepton-number-violating quantities in specific GUT models of massive neutrinos with different Abelian flavour groups, taking into account experimental constraints and requiring successful leptogenesis. We discuss SU(5) and flipped SU(5) models that are consistent with the present data on neutrino mixing and upper limits on the violations of charged-lepton flavours and explore their predictions for the CP-violating oscillation and Majorana phases. In particular, we discuss string-derived flipped SU(5) models with selection rules that modify the GUT structure and provide additional constraints on the operators, which are able to account for the magnitudes of some of the coefficients that are often set as arbitrary parameters in generic Abelian models.Comment: 30 pages, 6 figure

Q-values of the Superallowed beta-Emitters 26m-Al, 42-Sc and 46-V and their impact on V_ud and the Unitarity of the CKM Matrix

The beta-decay Q_EC-values of the superallowed beta emitters 26m-Al, 42-Sc and 46-V have been measured with a Penning trap to a relative precision of better than 8x10^-9. Our result for 46-V, 7052.72(31) keV, confirms a recent measurement that differed significantly from the previously accepted reaction-based Q_EC-value. However, our results for 26m-Al and 42-Sc, 4232.83(13) keV and 6426.13(21) keV, are consistent with previous reaction-based values. By eliminating the possibility of a systematic difference between the two techniques, this result demonstrates that no significant shift in the deduced value of V_ud should be anticipated.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, 1 table. A new isomer in 125^{125}La

    No full text
Levels in 125^{125}La have been studied via β+\beta ^+/EC decay of on-line mass-separated 125^{125}Ce using the HIGISOL technique. A new (390 ±\pm 40) ms isomer is definitely attributed to 125^{125}La by conversion electron measurements of the 107 keV E3 isomeric transition

    Level structure of 99Nb

    Get PDF
The β decay of 97Sr to 97Y has been investigated using ion-guide on-line mass separation and a 10 Ge-detector array to record γ−γ coincidences to a detection limit well below that of former studies. Similarities are found in the β-decay patterns of 99Zr and of its isotone 97Sr and also in the γ-ray decay rates and branchings of the corresponding levels in their respective daughters 99Nb and 97Y. This indicates a persisting influence of the d5/2 neutron shell closure for 99Nb. The level structure of 99Nb and the β-feeding pattern are discussed in the frame of the interacting boson-fermion plus broken pair model and the microscopic quasiparticle phonon model

Reconstructing the two right-handed neutrino model

In this paper we propose a low-energy parametrization of the two right-handed neutrino model, and discuss the prospects to determine experimentally these parameters in supersymmetric scenarios. In addition, we present exact formulas to reconstruct the high-energy leptonic superpotential in terms of the low-energy observables. We also discuss limits of the three right-handed neutrino model where this procedure applies.Comment: 28 pages, 4 figures. Typos corrected, references adde
