Evaluating the websites of small-and-medium-sized hotels (SMHs) in Malaysia
This study develops a set of evaluation criteria to evaluate the websites of small-and-medium-sized hotels (SMHs) in Malaysia and to identify current levels of sell-side e-commerce among SMHs in Malaysia. Each of the criteria is evaluated by a 5-point Likert scale rating. The study scaned thoroughly 33 websites of the SMHs located in Kuala Lumpur. The preliminary findings suggest that 51.5 percent of the websites are easy to access, but have no site map or search engine provided within the website.90.9 percent of the websites do not offer a customer loyalty program.A total of 75.8 percent of SMHs do not provide a privacy and security policy on the website. This study concludes that the current levels of sell-side e-commerce among SMHs in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is at level 4, which is an interactive site supporting transactions with users. This research has implications for hotel practitioners, specifically to SMHs in the context of website development as they move to higher levels of sell-side e commerce
Effect of silver nanoparticle addition on the structure and characteristics of radio-photoluminescence glass dosimeter
A series of silver-activated phosphate glass was prepared by melt quenching method. The effect of silver nanoparticle addition on the phosphate glass microstructure, composition and chemical characteristics was investigated using x-ray diffraction, fourier transform infrared and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Other physical property such as density was also evaluated. The density increased when the amount of silver ions were increased, due to the enhanced formation of non-bridging oxygen. In this study, we discuss the emission mechanism of two radio-photoluminescence peaks at 460 nm and 620 nm, where the electrons and holes produced by γ-irradiation a re-trapped by Ag+ ions to produce Ag0 and Ag2+ ions respectively, when the Ag+-doped phosphate glass is exposed to γ-ray. We proposed that an emission mechanism of 460 and 620 nm radio-photoluminescence peaks with these Ag2+ and Ag0 ions. Furthermore, a correlation between the investigated properties and glass composition is discussed
The Diffusion of New Technology amongst Small-and Medium-Sized Hotels (SMHs) in Malaysia
This study aims to explore the adoption and implementation of new technology amongst SMHs in Malaysia. The Multiple-case study will be employed as a research methodology and six SMHs have been selected. The findings will benefit the Malaysian hotel industry by providing critical information to SMHs to decide whether they should strategically invest to adopt and implement the new technology. The study, thus makes a contribution to the theory development and practices within the diffusion of technology and provide the future research directions
Website evaluation analysis of small-and-medium-sized hotels in Malaysia
This study evaluates the websites of small- and medium-sized hotels (SMHs) in Malaysia. This research develops a set of evaluation criteria for evaluating SMHs and for identifying current stages of e-commerce adoption among SMHs in Malaysia. Each of the criteria is evaluated by rating points using an appropriate evaluation scheme. The study identified 36 websites of the SMHs that provided an online reservation facility. This study concludes that the current stages of e-commerce adoption among SMHs in Malaysia is in stage 2, which is a simple interactive website based on website evaluation criteria and the proposed stage model of e-commerce adoption for SMHs in Malaysia. This research has implications for hotel practitioners, specifically for SMHs in the context of website development as they move to a different stage of e-commerce adoption
