Seismicity of Algeria from 1365 to 2013: Maximum Observed Intensity Map (MOI2014)

    Get PDF
Algeria is one of the most seismically active areas in the Medi- terranean basin. The available catalogs reported numerous de- structive earthquakes striking different regions, such as Algiers (1365, maximum observed intensity Io X; 1716, Io X; Ambraseys and Vogt, 1988), Oran (1790, Io X; Lopez Mari- nas and Salord, 1990), Djidjelli (1856, Io IX; Ambraseys, 1982), Orléansville (1854, Ms 6.7; Rothé, 1950), El Asnam (1980, Ms 7.3; Yielding et al., 1989), Constantine (1985, M s 5.9; Ousadou et al., 2013), Tipasa-Chenoua (1989, M s 6.0; Bounif et al., 2003), Mascara (1994, M s 6.0; Ayadi et al., 2002), and Zemmouri (2003, Mw 6.8; Harbi, Maouche, Ousadou, et al., 2007; Ayadi et al., 2008). This seismicity is related to the collision between the African and Eurasian plates and is lo- cated within the Tell Atlas of Algeria along the plate boundary zone. Two periods that are related to the installation of the Algerian seismic network are identified from the seismic cata- log of Algeria: the pre-1910 and post-1910 periods

Dynamics of abelian subgroups of GL(n, C): a structure's Theorem

In this paper, we characterize the dynamic of every abelian subgroups G\mathcal{G} of GL(nn, K\mathbb{K}), K=R\mathbb{K} = \mathbb{R} or C\mathbb{C}. We show that there exists a G\mathcal{G}-invariant, dense open set UU in Kn\mathbb{K}^{n} saturated by minimal orbits with KnU\mathbb{K}^{n}- U a union of at most nn G\mathcal{G}-invariant vectorial subspaces of Kn\mathbb{K}^{n} of dimension n1n-1 or n2n-2 on K\mathbb{K}. As a consequence, G\mathcal{G} has height at most nn and in particular it admits a minimal set in Kn{0}\mathbb{K}^{n}-\{0\}.Comment: 16 page

BiMine+: An efficient algorithm for discovering relevant biclusters of DNA microarray data

    Get PDF
Biclustering is a very useful tool for analyzing microarray data. It aims to identify maximal groups of genes which are coherent with maximal groups of conditions. In this paper, we propose a biclustering algorithm, called BiMine+, which is able to detect significant biclusters from gene expression data. The proposed algorithm is based on two original features. First, BiMine+ is based on the use of a new tree structure, called Modified Bicluster Enumeration Tree (MBET), on which biclusters are represented by the profile shapes of genes. Second, BiMine+ uses a pruning rule to avoid both trivial biclusters and combinatorial explosion of the search tree. The performance of BiMine+ is assessed on both synthetic and real DNA microarray datasets. Experimental results show that BiMine+ competes favorably with several state-of-the-art biclustering algorithms and is able to extract functionally enriched and biologically relevant biclusters

Pattern-driven neighborhood search for biclustering of microarray data

Biclustering aims at finding subgroups of genes that show highly correlated behaviors across a subgroup of conditions. Biclustering is a very useful tool for mining microarray data and has various practical applications. From a computational point of view, biclustering is a highly combinatorial search problem and can be solved with optimization methods

BicFinder: a biclustering algorithm for microarray data analysis

    Get PDF
In the context of microarray data analysis, biclustering allows the simultaneous identification of a maximum group of genes that show highly correlated expression patterns through a maximum group of experimental conditions (samples). This paper introduces a heuristic algorithm called BicFinder (The BicFinder software is available at: http://www.info.univ-angers.fr/pub/hao/BicFinder.html) for extracting biclusters from microarray data. BicFinder relies on a new evaluation function called Average Correspondence Similarity Index (ACSI) to assess the coherence of a given bicluster and utilizes a directed acyclic graph to construct its biclusters. The performance of BicFinder is evaluated on synthetic and three DNA microarray datasets. We test the biological significance using a gene annotation web-tool to show that our proposed algorithm is able to produce biologically relevant biclusters. Experimental results show that BicFinder is able to identify coherent and overlapping biclusters

Naturalistic Affective Expression Classification by a Multi-Stage Approach Based on Hidden Markov Models

    Get PDF
In naturalistic behaviour, the affective states of a person change at a rate much slower than the typical rate at which video or audio is recorded (e.g. 25fps for video). Hence, there is a high probability that consecutive recorded instants of expressions represent a same affective content. In this paper, a multi-stage automatic affective expression recognition system is proposed which uses Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) to take into account this temporal relationship and finalize the classification process. The hidden states of the HMMs are associated with the levels of affective dimensions to convert the classification problem into a best path finding problem in HMM. The system was tested on the audio data of the Audio/Visual Emotion Challenge (AVEC) datasets showing performance significantly above that of a one-stage classification system that does not take into account the temporal relationship, as well as above the baseline set provided by this Challenge. Due to the generality of the approach, this system could be applied to other types of affective modalities

Redefining the Core Competencies of Future Healthcare Executives under Healthcare Reform

    Get PDF
As the healthcare industry has evolved over the years, so too has the administration of healthcare organizations. The signing into law of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) has brought additional changes to the healthcare industry that will require changes to the healthcare administration curriculum. The movement toward a vertically integrated delivery system for healthcare has demanded that healthcare executives have a new set of skills and competencies. These competencies include management skills across hospitals, ancillary providers, physician practices, ambulatory settings, as well as skills in risk management and quality. Healthcare organizations can transform healthcare delivery through the power of technology and systems oriented care. This will require a new type of healthcare executive with new skill sets. This paper examines the skill sets of leaders of some of the leading integrated delivery systems in the United States through key interviews with twelve top executives. Based upon those interviews, c-suite executives in large healthcare systems were surveyed to identify the core competencies of the successful healthcare executive of the future and the graduate education requirement needed to achieve those competencies. The results of the study are used to provide suggestions on how the curricula of healthcare administration programs can be revamped

Evaluation des traits de vie d'une espèce endémique du Maroc (Salmo trutta macrostigma, Dumeril, 1858) dans une rivière du Moyen Atlas du Maroc: Oued Sidi Rachid

    Get PDF
