Towards A Model Of Charismatic Non-Verbal Impression Management

    Get PDF
Although evidence of charismatic leaders handling of non-verbal and expressive behaviors to manage impressions exists in literature, a conceptual framework for understanding this process is not available. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to propose such a framework which draws upon and integrates the literatures in the areas of charismatic leadership, impression management, and non-verbal behavior. More specifically, the proposed model focuses on addressing the question of how do charismatic leaders utilize non-verbal behaviors to manage the impressions formed of them by followers in order to promote and enhance the charismatic relationship . As part of the model, this paper advances ten specific propositions that can form the base for future research initiatives

    Get PDF
This study tested the transformational leadership theory among managers at functional levels in United Arab Emirates (UAE) banks. The UAE banking sec-tor was chosen due to its importance in the U.A.E. economy and its significant contribution to the Emirates GDP. The paper examines the effects of both transformational and transactional leadership styles of bank managers/supervisors on employees' satisfaction and self-perceived performance. Self-esteem and leadership disposition (Romance of Leadership) of employees were hypothe-sized to act as moderators. Data was collected from employees working in national and international banks operating in the UAE. A multiple regression analysis indicated that transformational leadership style and self-esteem were related to job satisfaction. On the other hand, transformational leadership, Romance of Leadership (RLS), and self-esteem were all related to self-perceived performance. Results confirmed that to elicit higher levels of satisfac-tion and performance among bank employees, managers/supervisors need to demonstrate transformational leadership attributes

The Impact Of Core Job Dimensions On Satisfaction And Performance: A Test In An International Environment

This study tested core dimensions of the Job Characteristics Model among non-managerial employees at functional levels in United Arab Emirates (UAE) banks. The UAE banking sector was chosen due to its importance in the U.A.E. economy and its significant contribution to the Emirates GDP. The paper examines the effects of core job dimensions on both affective responses represented by satisfaction, and behavioral responses represented by performance. Core job dimensions are skill variety, task identity, task significance, autonomy, and feedback. Data was collected from employees working in national and international banks operating in the UAE. Regression analyses revealed that contrary to expectations, satisfaction was not related to the core job dimensions while performance was. Furthermore, results in this case seem not to support the view that the core dimensions are related to affective responses but not behavioral ones. Evidence suggests that banks in the UAE will benefit by actively looking into the impact of job design and by training their managers to acquire job redesign skills. Furthermore, there might be added value in terms of performance of employees if banks refine the process by which they design tasks and jobs. Moreover, results above are discussed while implications and future research directions are outlined.

Intervention in Litigation in the Civil Proceedings: A Comparative Study

The Jordanian, Iraqi, and French legislators have allowed a nonparty to intervene in ongoing litigation as a matter of right before the courts, even if he is not a party in litigation nor a representative by joining one of the parties to support their point of view in the case. This is called the joint intervention. The Jordanian legislator did not allow this intervention for the first time before a court in accordance with the principle of litigation in two degrees. While the Iraqi and French legislators who expressly stated that it is permissible, and allowed the others to intervene and demand an independent right from the litigating parties and against them. This is called the original intervention, under the conditions, procedures and controls stipulated by the law. At the same time, the original litigants are allowed to introduce a third party under an executive ruling or a decision by the court. This is called a third party litigation.  The Jordanian legislator defined the cases permitting the introduction of an intervener under a court order exclusively. It was more reasonable for the Jordanian legislator to the give the court the powers to assess these cases and not limit them to specific ones as conducted by the Iraqi and the French legislators. This study tests the transformational leadership theory among managers at functional levels in United Arab Emirates (UAE) international companies. The UAE business sector was chosen due to its significance in the regional economy and its sizable contributions as the UAE continues to lead its neighboring countries in business development and technological advancements. More specifically, the UAE economy depends very heavily on expatriate workers and professionals, which creates a rich yet challenging environment for leadership models. The paper examines the effects of both transformational and transactional leadership styles of managers/supervisors on employees satisfaction and self-perceived performance. Self-esteem and leadership disposition (Romance of Leadership) of employees are hypothesized to act as moderators. The impact of cultural origin, gender, age, and job experience are also examined. Data was collected from employees working in international companies operating in the UAE. Results revealed a strong effect for transformational leadership on satisfaction. Importantly, results do challenge the view that both leadership styles are necessary conditions for leadership to be operationalized. Cultural and demographic factors showed strong impact on the dependent variables as did RLS and self-esteem. All findings are discussed and future research directions outlined

Ectasia coronaria y lesiones trombóticas como causa de síndrome coronario agudo

    Get PDF
AbstractA case with complicated management and difficult decision-making is presented. A patient with history of type A aortic dissection and residual dilatation of the descending aorta up to 60mm is admitted for acute coronary syndrome without ST elevation. Coronary angiography reveals a marked coronary ectasia and perfusion defects of unclear origin. Thrombosis or fake images due to flow reduction? Assuming that it could be caused by thrombosis the patient is treated with anticoagulant therapy and the coronary angiography is repeated after two months. This second study shows complete clearing of imaging findings, confirming the thrombotic origin. At this stage considerations are taken so as to plan a chronic treatment for the patient? There is no scientific evidence regarding the treatment for coronary ectasia and this is a high-risk patient because of his aortic dissection history. Finally it is empirically decided to indefinitely keep anticoagulant therapy. After two years and six months of follow-up there has been no clinical incidents

A normally developed placenta is integral to a successful pregnancy. Preeclampsia (PE) and intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) are two common pregnancy related complications that result from abnormal placental development. Placental microRNAs (miRNAs) have been investigated as potential biomarkers for these complications, but they may also play a role in placental development and pathophysiology by influencing gene expression. The objectives of this study are (i) to utilize next-generation sequencing to determine miRNA and gene expression in human placental (chorionic villous) samples from three distinct patient groups with early-onset (EO) PE, IUGR, or PE + IUGR, and (ii) integration of expression datasets to assess the impact of dysregulated miRNAs on gene expression and trophoblast cell function.Placental tissues were collected from four patient groups (control [N=21], EO-PE [N=20], EO-IUGR [N=18], and EO-PE + IUGR [N=20]), and totalRNA was used for miRNA and RNA sequencing. Multiple differential expression analysis programs were used to analyze both expression datasets in each patient group compared to gestational age-matched controls. Inverse correlation analysis and target prediction software were used to identify gene targets. Candidate gene targets identified were confirmed using luciferase assays, and impact of miRNAs on trophoblast function was assessed using proliferation and migration assays in HTR-8/SVneo cells.Analysis revealed miRNAs and genes that are disease-specific, as well as others that are common between disease groups, 6 microRNAs and 22 genes were identified to be differentially expressed in all three patient groups. In addition, integrative analysis between the miRNA and gene expression datasets revealed candidate gene targets for miR-193b-5p and miR-210-5p, two miRNAs that also have an impact on trophoblast cell functions. Our findings suggest common underlying placental pathologies in EO-PE and EO-IUGR.Dysregulated miRNAs and genes identified in this study provide further evidence for trophoblast dysfunction in these pregnancy complications. Integration of miRNA and RNA profiling in the same three subgroups of pregnancy complications, provides an alternate level of molecular information and is a useful tool to expand our understanding of molecular perturbations in the placenta in early onset diseases

This study tested the transformational leadership theory among managers at functional level in Jordanian banks. It examined the effects of both transformational and transactional leadership styles of bank mangers/supervisors on employees’ satisfaction and self-perceived performance. Self-efficacy, self-esteem and leadership disposition (Romance of Leadership) of employees were hypothesized to act as moderators. Data was collected from employees working in Jordanian banks. A multiple regression analysis indicated that transformational leadership style, transactional leadership style, and self-efficacy were all related to job satisfaction. On the other hand, self-efficacy, Romance of Leadership (RLS), and self-esteem were related to self-perceived performance. Furthermore, a MANCOVA analysis indicated significant effects of self-efficacy, RLS, and self-esteem as covariates. Results showed that to elicit higher levels of satisfaction among bank employees, managers/supervisors need to demonstrate transformational and transactional attributes at the same time
