Becoming the Lion\u27s Historian

This professional project examines the ways in which French colonial documentaries were used in conjunction with governmental legislation to enforce dominant narratives and repress marginalized perspectives about the nature of colonialism and the roles of the French and West Africans in its execution. Through the limitations and powers of documentary filmmaking, this project explores the ways in which counter narratives can allow media professionals today to remedy the one sided dominant narratives about marginalized communities that have existed for decades. The culmination of this project is in the creation of a documentary treatment and sizzle reel that will be the beginning of a documentary intended to put into practice the findings of this professional project

Évaluation et amélioration de l'échantillonnage par lot pour l'assurance de la qualité (LQAS) pour le suivi de programmes d'aide humanitaire

Introduit par Dodge and Romig [1959] et rendu populaire par Valadez [1991]), le Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS) est une méthode beaucoup utilisée par les organismes dans le suivi de leurs activités (Robertson and Valadez [2006]). Le LQAS est utilisé dans le contexte comme une approche simple et peu coûteuse pour prendre rapidement des décisions par rapport à l’allocation des ressources. L’approche proposée par Valadez consiste à réaliser le test usuel de la binomiale exacte sur une proportion où on contrôle à la fois les erreurs a et b pour choisir une taille n et un seuil critique c. Pour rendre accessible son utilisation, Valadez et al. [2002] ont développé un manuel des praticiens qui présente une méthodologie d’utilisation du LQAS plus complexe que l’approche proposée par Valadez. Plusieurs problèmes liés à l’utilisation du LQAS en pratique sont identifiés et nous avons évalué leurs impact sur les erreurs de type I et II. Nous avons proposé d’autres solutions comme le test exact de Fisher, le test exact de Barnard, un test basé sur l’approximation par la loi normale avec et sans transformation arcsin( p x) en contrôlant pour chacun de ces tests a et b. Nous avons aussi soulevé le problème de la comparaison multiple et nous avons proposé une correction, celle de Bonferroni. Au terme de l’étude, nous avons développé une application Shiny sur R (https://lqasdesign. shinyapps.io/app1/) pour faciliter la conception et l’analyse selon le LQAS.Introduced by Dodge and Romig [1959] and popularized by Valadez [1991], Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS) is a method widely used by tremendous organizations to tracking their activities (Robertson and Valadez [2006]). It is a simple and economical approach which allow them to make quick decisions about resource allocation. The approach proposed by Valadez consists in carrying out the usual exact binomial test on a proportion where we control both the a and b errors to choose a n size and a critical c threshold. In this study, several issues related to the use of LQAS in practice have been identified and we assessed their impact on Type I and Type II errors. Then, we proposed several solutions such as Fisher’s exact test, Barnard’s exact test, as well as a test based on the normal approximation with and without transformation arcsin( p x) by checking for each of them a and b. We also raised the problem of multiple comparison and proposed a correction using the Bonferroni framework. Finally, we developed a Shiny application on R (https://lqasdesign.shinyapps.io/app1/) to facilitate the practical implementation of each these methods

An efficient discretisation scheme for one dimensional SDEs with a diffusion coefficient function of the form |x|^a, a in [1/2,1)

Version 2In this paper, we study the rate of convergence of a symmetrized version of the classical Euler scheme, applied to the discretisation of the solution of a stochastic differential equation with a diffusion coefficient function of the form |x|^a, a in [1/2,1). For smooth test functions, we show that the weak error is of order one as for the classical Euler scheme. More over, the symmetrized version is very easy to simulate on a computer

Senegal: Explorer le processus de la collaboration multisectorielle mise en place pour l’étude qualitative

En 2015, STEP UP a mené une étude qualitative sur l’expérience de femmes ayant subi une grossesse non désirée suite à un viol ou inceste dans la région de Dakar, Sénégal, en partenariat avec le Comité de plaidoyer pour l’accès à l’avortement médicalisé, plus connu sous le nom de «Taskforce». L’objectif général de l’étude était de développer une meilleure compréhension de la vie de ces femmes et d’apporter leur voix au débat sur la légalisation de l’avortement médicalisé. Cette étude de cas examine les caractéristiques de la collaboration, comment elle a été efficace, les leçons apprises, et les recommandations formulées pour de telles futures collaborations. --- In 2015, STEP UP conducted a qualitative study on the experience of women who have undergone an unwanted pregnancy following rape or incest in the region of Dakar, Senegal, in partnership with the Advocacy Committee for Access to Medical Abortion, better known as “Taskforce.” The overall objective of the study was to develop a better understanding of the lives of these women and to add their voice to the debate over the legalization of safe abortion. This case study examines the characteristics of the collaboration, how effective it has been, lessons learned, and recommendations for future such collaborations

Euler scheme for SDEs with non-Lipschitz diffusion coefficient: strong convergence

International audienceWe consider one-dimensional stochastic differential equations in the particular case of diffusion coefficient functions of the form |x|^a, a in [1/2,1). In that case, we study the rate of convergence of a symmetrized version of the Euler scheme. This symmetrized version is easy to simulate on a computer. We prove its strong convergence and obtain the same rate of convergence as when the coefficients are Lipschitz

Five Cyclohexyldiamino-NN, N’N’(CH2CO2)(CH2CO2H)3 anion containing adducts and derivatives with tin, antimony and mercury halides have been synthesized and characterized by infrared spectroscopy. The suggested structures are discrete, the anion behaving as a monodentate or a monochelating ligand: the environments around the metallic centres are trigonal bipyramidal or octahedral.The carboxylic groups and the cation, when involved in extra OH---O, OH----Cl or NH---Cl or O hydrogen bonds may lead to supramolecular architectures

DEARYLATION IN THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN (Et3NH)HC2O4 OR (Et3NH)2C2O4 AND SnPh3Cl: INFRARED STUDY

Five new oxalato, hydrogenoxalato and hydrogenocarbonato adducts (three) and complexes (two) obtained on allowing (Et3NH)HC2O4 or (Et3NH)2C2O4 to react with SnPh3Cl have been studied by infrared spectroscopy, then discrete structures suggested on the basis of spectroscopic data. The anions behave as monochelating ligands, the environments around the metallic centres being octahedral. In two of the compounds, the benzene molecules obtained in situ are lattice. In all these structures when considering the cation involved in extra hydrogen bonds, a supramolecular architecture may be obtained
