The southeastern U.S. constitutes more than 40% of anthropogenic CO2 emissions in the U.S., and most of this is emitted within 50 miles of the coast. Uniform government ownership, high capacity, and favorable source location indicate that the offshore continental shelf could be an attractive location for anthropogenic CO2 storage. This study focuses on understanding the depositional framework of the Cretaceous sandstone units in the Desoto Canyon Salt Basin in the Destin Dome, Mobile, Pensacola and Viosca Knoll Areas offshore of Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle and understand their potential for CO2 storage. Detailed analysis of geophysical well logs indicate that sandstone of the Paluxy Formation (Lower Cretaceous) and the lower Tuscaloosa Group (Upper Cretaceous) are the principal Cretaceous targets for CO2 storage in the study area. Target reservoir units in the Paluxy Formation are sealed by shale and limestone of the Washita-Fredericksburg interval, and those in the lower Tuscaloosa Group are sealed by a thick succession of Upper Cretaceous shale and chalk, as well as the overlying Paleogene mudrock successions. The Paluxy Formation is a thick (>1,100 ft) progradational package of interbedded sandstone and mudstone that was deposited primarily by aggradation, apparently in coastal plain and shore-zone environments. The basal Washita-Fredericksburg interval (>1,000 ft) is predominantly limestone which passes upward into interbedded sandstone and mudstone resembling that in the Paluxy Formation. The lower Tuscaloosa Group contains the Massive sand (100-350 ft), which was deposited primarily as coastal deposits. Geophysical well log analysis reveals that while the lower Tuscaloosa and Paluxy sandstone are quartzose, thick (>120 feet), and generally possess high porosity (~18-21%), the reservoirs in the Washita-Fredericksburg interval have modest thickness (<60 ft).Volumetric estimation of the storage resource in the reservoir units confirms Gt-class capacity in the nearshore part of the study area, where well control provides adequate volumetric constraint. The combined storage potential of the Cretaceous sandstone units is 28 Gt. Due to minimal seal and reservoir integrity risks, close well control, and thickest net sandstone (2.9 Mt/km2), the stable shelf of Mobile and Viosca Knoll Areas has been identified as the optimal injection location. Each offshore block in this area is capable of sequestering annual emissions from 13 major power plants (~5 Mt/yr). Detailed understanding of reservoir architecture and depositional environment will help select field-scale commercialization strategies such as multi-zone, single-zone and directional injection of anthropogenic CO2 to maximize the available potential.Geolog

Hydroxychloroquine, an antimalarial drug has also been found to possess antidiabetic action. It inactivates insulin degradation enzymes and also delays the dissociation of insulin from the insulin receptor thus also lowering the insulin resistance and increasing insulin sensitivity. Here we report a case of a male patient with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who obtained a better glycemic control when hydroxychloroquine was added to the existing pharmacotherapy. The patient has been taking metformin, glimepiride and acarbose for the last 2 years but his diabetes was poorly controlled with glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) of 9.6%. Patient was proposed to intensify the treatment with insulin however he refused it. He was subsequently prescribed hydroxychloroquine 400 mg. Patient responded well to the therapy of hydroxychloroquine and subsequent follow-ups showed good glycaemic control. (Clin Diabetol 2017; 6, 6: 211–214

    Get PDF
Seborrhoeic keratosis are formed from the basal layer of epidermal cells and contain melanocytes. Many terms such as senile wart, melanoacanthoma, basal cell papilloma, senile keratosis and seborrhoeic wart have been applied, but seborrhoeic keratosis is the most widely accepted term. In our case a 50-year-old female presented to the surgery OPD with a painless pigmented skin lesion 2.5cm lateral to the left lateral canthus and 1cm below the hairline of size of 4 *4cm. Pigmented lesion was from last 8 years and slowly progressive in nature and was not associated with any co morbid conditions. On clinical evaluation the clinical diagnosis of epidermal nevus was given and an excisional biopsy with rhomboid flap placement was performed and the tissue was sent for histopathological examination. Post operative period was uneventful and the histopathology report states the seborrhoeic keratosis. Hence, lesions for which the diagnosis is uncertain, based on the history and gross examination, should be biopsied for histopathologic examination to rule out malignancy

A Frequency Tunable Dielectric Resonator Antenna with Reduction of Cross Polarisation for Wi MAX and Sub 6 GHz 5G Applications

A frequency Tunable (mechanical tuning) Linearly Polarized (TLP) rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna(DRA) coupled with a horizontal/vertical-slot and excited with circular-ring type feed is investigated in this article. The frequency tunability (mechanical tuning) is achieved by the rotation of slot at different angles of the proposedstructure. Hence, two linearly polarized antennas have been proposed for different frequency bands such as Wi-MAX and Sub-6 GHz/5G, respectively, using slot variations (named as DRA-1 and DRA-2). TE 11δ mode has been excited in both the DRAs and confirmed by orientation of electric field inside the rectangular DRA. The measured -10 dB input impedance bandwidths of DRA-1 offer 21.60 % being centered at 2.87 GHz and the separation of co-polarized and cross-polarized field levels is above -24 dB in the broadside direction (xz-plane). Whereas DRA-2 offers measured -10 dB input impedance bandwidths of 23.03% being centered at 3.56 GHz having a separation of co-polarized and cross-polarized field levels are above -23 dB in the broadside direction (xz-plane). In addition, the proposed DRA-1 and DRA-2 show a maximum gain of 5.23 dBi and 4.75 dBi in broadside direction, respectively

Optimization is a process to discover the most effective element or solution from a set of all possible resources or solutions. Currently, there are various biological problems such as extending from biomolecule structure prediction to drug discovery that can be elevated by opting standard protocol for optimization. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) process, purposed by Dr. Eberhart and Dr. Kennedy in 1995, is solely based on population stochastic optimization technique. This method was designed by the researchers after inspired by social behavior of flocking bird or schooling fishes. This method shares numerous resemblances with the evolutionary computation procedures such as genetic algorithms (GA). Since, PSO algorithms is easy process to subject with minor adjustment of a few restrictions, it has gained more attention or advantages over other population based algorithms. Hence, PSO algorithms is widely used in various research fields like ranging from artificial neural network training to other areas where GA can be used in the system

Crowdsourcing platforms have become quite popular due to the increasing demand of human computation-based tasks. Though the crowdsourcing systems are primarily demand-driven like MTurk, supply-driven marketplaces are becoming increasingly popular. Fiverr is a fast growing supply-driven marketplace where the sellers post micro-tasks (gigs) and users purchase them for prices as low as $5. In this paper, we study the Fiverr platform as a unique marketplace and characterize the sellers, buyers and the interactions among them. We find that sellers are more appeasing in their interactions and try to woo their buyers into buying their gigs. There are many small tightly-knit communities existing in the seller-seller network who support each other. We also study Fiverr as a seller-driven marketplace in terms of sales, churn rates, competitiveness among various subcategories etc. and observe that while there are certain similarities with common marketplaces there are also many differences
