Kompiuterinio žargono ir jo atitikmenų tyrimo ypatumai
The paper deals with the frequency rate of occurrence of computer jargon in students' colloquial speech. The ratio of borrowings to their Lithuanian equivalents is also explored. The methods of the research include the analysis of the data obtained in the questionnaire survey and in the statistical processing. The results show that jargons prevail in students' colloquial speech. The reasons for rejecting Lithuanian equivalents are analysed. Most probably students are influenced by the environment in which they communicate. The paper aims to research and analyse terms for the purpose of promoting correct usage
The Use of Lexical Borrowings and their Lithuanian Equivalents in the Computer-Mediated Environment in Students’ Speech
The paper aims to establish the differences between lexical borrowings and their Lithuanian equivalents, to introduce the concept of borrowing, what has been achieved in this field and to examine the challenges the learners face in using specific terminology in the computer-mediated environment. Different types of borrowings have been analysed according to the degree of their assimilation. The rate of occurrence of borrowings in students’ speech has been examined as well as the reasons for choosing borrowings rather than native words. The factors determining the degree of borrowings’ recognition are age, knowledge of foreign languages and the degree of assimilation of borrowings

The Impact of the Delivery of Prepared Power Point Presentations on the Learning Process
This article describes the process of the preparation and delivery of Power Point presentations and how it can be used by teachers as a resource for classroom teaching. The advantages of this classroom activity covering some of the problems and providing a few suggestions for dealing with those difficulties are also outlined. The major objective of the present paper is to investigate the students ability to choose the material and the content of Power Point presentations on professional topics via the Internet as well as the ability to prepare and deliver the presentation in front of the audience. The factors which determine the choice of the presentation subject are also analysed in this paper. After the delivery students were requested to self- and peer-assess the difficulties they faced in preparation and performance of the presentations by writing the reports. Learners’ attitudes to the choice of the topic of Power Point presentations were surveyed by administering a self-assessment questionnaire

Classroom applications of various approaches to handling texts and text-based activities are also discussed and their main advantages and disadvantages are outlined.Tasks based on text transformation and reconstruction found in the course books of English for students of computing and information technology are analysed and their types are determined. The efficiency of the tasks is determined by considering the experience of the authors gained in using text-based assignments provided in these course books with the students of the above specialities. Some problems encountered in classroom application of the considered text-based tasks are also outlined

Implementing participatory action research in Lithuania: potential and challenges
Participatory action research is a quite new approach to research in Lithuania. The aim of an article was to disscuss the potential and challenges of participatory action research while implementing it in Lithuanian organizations. The qualitative approach was chosen for the study using the method of Focus groups. 20 researchers from social and biomedicine sciences from six institutions of High education in Lithuania participated in the study. The results of the study showed that participatory action reasearch is seen as an approach with many possibilities because of a wide range of used methods, constant interactions with research participants and the lenght of the research process. Researchers value the possibility to access organization at the begining, during research process and evaluate the effectiveness of the changes after the process. The research challenges are associated with the competence of a researcher including his/her sensitivity during process, ability to involve active participation of organization members in the ongoing process by creating safe and trusting environment. Some specific challenges associated with Lithuanian organizations are organizations‘ tiredness of researches and lack of faith of the benefits of researches because of some previous experiences
Psychosocial factors, predicting attitude towards organizational development among employees of social service organizations
[...] The aim of the study was to identify and compare psychosocial factors which could predict a positive attitude towards organizational development in a sample of employees working in private and state social enterprises. The study subjects were 510 employees from 17 (78.6 percent) municipal and 8 (21.4 percent) private social organizations providing services for the elderly. [...] The exploratory factor analysis distinguished five factors: leadership, management of organizational processes, satisfaction with promotion system in the organization, satisfaction with work and emotional conditions, and the attitude towards organizational development. These factors represent three hierarchical components: individual level (satisfaction with promotion system in the organization, satisfaction with work and emotional conditions), group level (leadership) and organizational (management of organizational processes, attitude towards organizational development) level.The analysis of mean values in these five factors showed that employees were most satisfied with management of organizational processes, and least satisfied with a promotion system in their organizations. The regression analysis revealed that the attitude towards organizational development among employees of state organizations, providing services for the elderly, was predicted by management of organizational processes and satisfaction with a promotion system in the organization. The attitude towards organizational development among employees of private organizations was predicted by satisfaction with work and emotional conditions
