    Recent results from the INDRA Collaboration

    In this conference proceeding we introduce the last results obtained by the INDRA Collaboration. Those results will be better explained and more detailed in the following report presentations of this issue and just a brief overview will be mentionned here, with only the main conclusions addressed. This summary is divided into two parts. The first one is devoted to systematic studies on heavy-ion collisions around Fermi energy with the INDRA multidetector array. Analyses of nuclear reactions in term of dissipation, reaction mechanisms, decay modes, isospin diffusion, excitation energy and calorimetry will be discussed. This has been done thanks to the large INDRA data base, collected over most than twenty years now. The second part of this proceeding concerns analyses of data with a specific set-up: INDRA coupled with the VAMOS spectrometer. Complementary studies with full determination of all the particles event by event (Z,A,E,θ,φ) has been performed to access important parameters like symmetry energy, level density parameters, full decay channels (partitions), E∗, temperature wich are the main ingredients in the decay of hot heavy ions

    Progresses in FAZIA detection system and preliminary results from the ISO-FAZIA experiment

    In this contribution the status of the FAZIA project is presented, with a particular focus on the first experiment (identified as ISO-FAZIA) after the R&D phase. In this experiment four complete FAZIA blocks in a fully operating configuration were used. They were mounted in a planar “belt” geometry, symmetrically positioned with respect to the beam axis, covering the polar angles between 2.5◦ and 17.4◦ degrees. The investigated systems were 84Kr + 48,40Ca at 35AMeV. The main goal of the experiment was the study of the isospin transport phenomena, extending a previous analysis. This contribution will report on the isotopic identification capability of the FAZIA detector as well as preliminary results concerning the average isospin of the quasi-projectile produced in semiperipheral collisions as a function of the isospin of the target

    Influence of the n-p asymmetry on decay properties of palladium isotopes

    The INDRA 4 π-array was coupled with the high acceptance spectrometer VAMOS to study the decay of palladium isotopes with a large range of N/Z = 1–1.26, produced in the 34,36,40Ar + 58,60,64Ni reactions at E/A = 13 .3MeV. The coupling of both apparatuses gives the opportunity to detect complete events with light charged particles identified in INDRA and the compound nucleus residue in VAMOS. The detailed studies of this experiment put constraints on the N/Z effects in the statistical models

    Signals of Bose Einstein condensation and Fermi quenching in the decay of hot nuclear systems

    We report experimental signals of Bose-Einstein condensation in the decay of hot Ca projectile-like sources produced in mid-peripheral collisions at sub-Fermi energies. The experimental setup, constituted by the coupling of the INDRA 4π\pi detector array to the forward angle VAMOS magnetic spectrometer, allowed us to reconstruct the mass, charge and excitation energy of the decaying hot projectile-like sources. Furthermore, by means of quantum fluctuation analysis techniques, temperatures and mean volumes per particle "as seen by" bosons and fermions separately are correlated to the excitation energy of the reconstructed system. The obtained results are consistent with the production of dilute mixed (bosons/fermions) systems, where bosons experience a smaller volume as compared to the surrounding fermionic gas. Our findings recall similar phenomena observed in the study of boson condensates in atomic traps.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett. (december 2014

    The red leg dilemma: a scoping review of the challenges of diagnosing lower limb cellulitis

    Background: Suspected lower limb cellulitis presentations are commonly misdiagnoses, resulting in avoidable antibiotic prescribing or hospital admissions. Understanding the challenges posed in diagnosing cellulitis may help enhance future care.Objectives: To examine and map out the challenges and facilitators identified by patients and health professionals in diagnosing lower limb cellulitis.Methods: A scoping systematic review was performed in MEDLINE and Embase in October 2017. Thematic analysis was used to identify key themes. Quantitative data was summarised by narrative synthesis.Results: Three themes were explored: (i) clinical case reports of misdiagnosis, (ii) service development and (iii) diagnostic aids. Forty‐seven different pathologies were misdiagnosed, including seven malignancies. Two different services have been piloted to reduce the misdiagnosis rates of lower limb cellulitis and save costs. Four studies have looked at biochemical markers, imaging and a scoring tool to aid diagnosis.Conclusions: This review highlights the range of alternative pathologies that can be misdiagnosed as cellulitis, and emerging services and diagnostic aids developed to minimise misdiagnosis. Future work should focus on gaining a greater qualitative understanding of the diagnostic challenges from the perspective of patients and clinicians.This article is protected by copyright.     FAZIA applications

    International audienceThe present status and the perspectives of the FAZIA project are presented. The main achievements in terms of identification thresholds and isotopic resolution are discussed, together with the adopted technical solutions. The detector is particularly well suited for the investigation of isospin transport phenomena at intermediate beam energies; perspectives to reduce the identification thresholds to cope with lower energy ISOL beams are briefly introduced. Some experimental results concerning isospin transport effects obtained with a test telescope are presented. The study of isospin transport phenomena can give information on the symmetry energy term of the nuclear equation of state by comparing the experimental results on isospin related observables with the predictions of transport codes
