Üniversite öğrencilerinin Erişkin Dikkat Eksikliği Hiperaktivite Ölçeğinin alt boyutları düzeylerinin çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelenmesi
The aim of this study is to determine whether or not the different types of ADHD change according to age, gender, class and department. The study was carried out during the 2008-2009 academic year at Ondokuz Mayıs University and focused on students at the university. The data necessary to investigate the ADHD level of students has been gathered by the ADHD scale (Turgay,2004) and Personal İnformation Form. It can be seen that there were important differences between students of age, gender, class and section variables when considering attention disorder. In the same way it was also observed that there were important differences between the characteristics and problems associated with ADHD among the groups. This study gives us an important clue regarding the prevalance of ADHD and of its symptoms such as attention disorder, hyperactivity and impulsivity among university students.
Behavioral rating inventory and laboratory tests measure different aspects of executive functioning in boys: A validity study
Derecelendirme Envanterinin (Behavioral Rating Inventory
of Executive Functions: BRIEF) öğretmen ve ebeveyn formları
kullanılmıştır (BRIEF-Ö ve BRIEF-E). Laboratuvar testleri
Stroop Testi, Wisconsin Kart Eşleme Testi ve Raven Standart
Progresif Matrisler Testinden oluşmuştur.
Bulgular: DEHB grubunda, BRIEF’in faktör yapısı davranışsal
düzenleme göstergesi ve üstbiliş göstergesinden
oluşmuştur (açıklanan varyanslar BRIEF-Ö için %70.07
ve BRIEF-Ö için %72.29). Yönetici işlevleri ölçen ekolojik
ve laboratuvar testleri aynı faktör altında yer almamıştır.
Çok Değişkenli varyans analizi BRİEF puanları açısından
grup etkisinin anlamlı olduğunu ancak altgruplar arasında
anlamlı fark olmadığını ortaya koymuştur. BRIEF puanları
ile yapılan lojistik regresyon analizinde duyarlık %90.20,
özgüllük %63.20 olarak bulunmuştur.
Tartışma: Çalışma Yİ’ye özel bilişsel özellikleri ve bunların
davranışsal göstergelerini belirleyebilmek için ilgili özelliklerin
bir arada taranmasını sağlayan ekolojik ve laboratuvar
testlerinin kullanılması, bilgilerin hem öğretmen hem de
ebeveynden ayrı ayrı alınması gerektiği ortaya konmuştur.
BRIEF’in ve laboratuvar testlerinin ölçtüğü Yİ’nin aynı özellikler
kümesinden oluşmadığına gösteren sonuçlar BRIEF’in
Türk kültürü üzerindeki geçerliğine de ışık tutmaktadır
Military jet pilots have higher p-wave dispersions compared to the transport aircraft aircrew
Objectives: For the purpose of flight safety military aircrew must be healthy. P-wave dispersion (PWD) is the p-wave length difference in an electrocardiographic (ECG) examination and represents the risk of developing atrial fibrillation. In the study we aimed at investigating PWD in healthy military aircrew who reported for periodical examinations. Material and Methods: Seventy-five asymptomatic military aircrew were enrolled in the study. All the subjects underwent physical, radiologic and biochemical examinations, and a 12-lead electrocardiography. P-wave dispersions were calculated. Results: The mean age of the study participants was 36.15±8.97 years and the mean p-wave duration was 100.8±12 ms in the whole group. Forty-seven subjects were non-pilot aircrew, and 28 were pilots. Thirteen study subjects were serving in jets, 49 in helicopters, and 13 were transport aircraft pilots. Thirty-six of the helicopter and 11 of the transport aircraft aircrew were non-pilot aircrew. P-wave dispersion was the lowest in the transport aircraft aircrew, and the highest in jet pilots. P-wave dispersions were similar in the pilots and non-pilot aircrew. Twenty-three study subjects were overweight, 19 had thyroiditis, 26 had hepatosteatosis, 4 had hyperbilirubinemia, 2 had hypertension, and 5 had hyperlipidemia. The PWD was significantly associated with thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels. Serum uric acid levels were associated with p-wave durations. Serum TSH levels were the most important predictor of PWD. Conclusions: When TSH levels were associated with PWD, uric acid levels were associated with p-wave duration in the military aircrew. The jet pilots had higher PWDs. These findings reveal that military jet pilots may have a higher risk of developing atrial fibrillation, and PWD should be recorded during periodical examinations
Time courses of improvement and symptom remission in children treated with atomoxetine for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder: analysis of Canadian open-label studies

Abstract

Background

The relatively short durations of the initial pivotal randomized placebo-controlled trials involving atomoxetine HCl for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) provided limited insight into the time courses of ADHD core symptom responses to this nonstimulant, selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The aim of this analysis was to evaluate time courses of treatment responses or remission, as assessed by attainment of prespecified scores on the ADHD Rating Scale-IV-Parent Version: Investigator Administered and Scored (ADHDRS-IV-PI) and the Clinical Global Impressions-ADHD-Severity (CGI-ADHD-S) scales, during up to 1 year of atomoxetine treatment in children with ADHD.

Methods

Using pooled data from three Canadian open-label studies involving 338 children ages 6-11 years with ADHD who were treated with atomoxetine for 3, 6 and 12 months, and survival analysis methods for interval-censored data, we estimated the time to: 1) improvement and robust improvement defined by ≥25% and ≥40% reductions from baseline ADHDRS-IV-PI total scores, respectively; and 2) remission using two definitions: a final score of ADHDRS-IV-PI ≤18 or a final score of CGI-ADHD-S ≤2.

Results

The median time to improvement was 3.7 weeks (~1 month), but remission of symptoms did not occur until a median of 14.3 weeks (~3.5 months) using the most stringent CGI-ADHD-S threshold. Probabilities of robust improvement were 47% at or before 4 weeks of treatment; 76% at 12 weeks; 85% at 26 weeks; and 96% at 52 weeks. Probabilities of remission at these corresponding time points were 30%, 59%, 77%, and 85% (using the ADHDRS-IV scale) and 8%, 47%, 67%, and 75% (using the CGI-ADHD-S scale). The change from atomoxetine treatment month 5 to month 12 of -1.01 (1.03) was not statistically significant (<it>p </it>= .33).

Conclusions

Reductions in core ADHD symptoms during atomoxetine treatment are gradual. Although approximately one-half of study participants showed improvement at 1 month of atomoxetine treatment, remission criteria were not met until about 3 months. Understanding the time course of children's responses to atomoxetine treatment may inform clinical decision making and also influence the durations of trials comparing the effects of this medication with other ADHD treatments.

Trial Registrations

clinicaltrials.gov: NCT00191633, NCT00216918, NCT00191880.</p
Atomoxetine in the treatment of children, adolescents and adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
A Practical Tool for Evaluating Refrigeration Systems Using R-134a
In this theoretical work, the ideal vapor-compression cycle using Refrigerant-134a (Tetrafluoroethane, a chlorine free refrigerant) is studied considering an evaporator pressure range of 100-200 kPa and a condenser pressure range of 0.8-1.6 MPa. The all four states of the thermodynamic cycle are calculated for a great number of conditions within the above pressure ranges. Thermodynamic properties of the refrigerant R-134a are evaluated using curve fitting polynomials. The deviations of the values generated from fitting curves from the actual tabulated data is less than 0.5%. Results are represented in a graph of COP vs. evaporator pressure for various condenser pressures. The results of this study is believed to be a quick reference especially for designers and engineering students
