The Role of Foreign Direct Investment to Technology Transfer for Local Employees: Evidence from SNNPRS, Hawassa Town, Ethiopia
The study assesses the Role of Foreign Direct Investment to Technology Transfer in SNNPRS, Hawassa Town. To achieve the objective of the study, both qualitative and quantitative research methods were employed. A total of 112sample respondents were randomly selected from 577 target population to fill the questionnaires. The questionnaire, personal observations and key-informants interview were used for primary data collection. Qualitative data’s were analyzed by narration, while quantitative data’s were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as percentage, frequency, mean, and standard deviation. Moreover, chi-square was used to explain whether two attribute are associated. The survey result signposts that technological inflow through FDI is an important channel in capacitating the local work force, promoting STI and assuring the prosperity of the Town. However, the educational level of the local employees to absorb the transferred technology, the collaboration between foreign firms and local employees, and the national technology policy are very weak to benefit from FDI. The employees in these companies faced multifaceted challenges to absorb the intended technology based know-how thus all stakeholders should come together and mobilize the available local resources to mitigate these challenges of the employees in the study area. Riwayat Berat Badan Lahir dengan Kejadian Stunting pada Anak Usia Bawah Dua Tahun
North Hulu Sungai District is still facing nutrition problems among children under two years old. One of nutrition problems up to now is stunting. Child with low birthweight (LBW) record is one of potential factors influencing the growth of a child. This study aimed to assess any risk of LBW records with stunting incidence among children under two years old. This study used cross-sectional design. The population was mothers having children under two years old and samples amounted to 117 consisted of children under two years old. This study was conducted within three months on September – November 2014. Category of LBW was if birth weight records < 2,500 gram. Bivariate data analysis used chi-square test and multivariate data analysis used logistic regression test. The result of bivariate analysis showed a significant relation between LBW status records (p value = 0.015) with stunting incidence among children under two years old. Based on the result of multivariate analysis, LBW was the most dominating risk factor related to stunting incidence. Children with LBW had 5.87 times risk of suffering from stunting. LBW records take an important role in stunting incidence among children under two years old around Sungai Karias Primary Health Care area in North Hulu Sungai
Physicochemical Properties Analysis of Three Indexes Pineapple (Ananas Comosus) Peel Extract Variety N36
AbstractPineapple peel is a major waste in pineapple canning industry. It has limited data on the physicochemical properties of pineapple peel for several ripening stages. It has high added value in many areas of study and approach to green technology development. For such industrial processes to be technically and economically feasible, it is important to have the analysis data of the physicochemical properties. Thus, physicochemical properties study of pineapple peel extract is very important in fruit waste extract technology. This study examined the physicochemical properties of the pineapple peel extract variety N36 for three different ripening stages: indexes 1, 2 and 3. Physicochemical properties such as total soluble solids (TSS), pH, titratable acidity (TA), absorbance and pulp content of pineapple peel extract were determined. It was found that the physicochemical properties: TSS, pH values, TA, absorbance and pulp content were significantly increased at the 5% level with the increase in ripening stages. These new data on ripening changes occurring in pineapple (Ananas comosus) peel variety N36 can contribute to further development in the agricultural sector
Empowering indigenous communities through participation in tourism
This study explores the involvement of Malaysian indigenous
peoples (Orang Asli) at both the individual and community level to analyse the impact of tourism development on the economic and socio-cultural aspects of their communities. The study was conducted at two tourism sites, Bukit Tadom
and Cameron Highlands. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 participants from the Orang Asli community and Orang Asli employees and management at the sites. Data were thematically analysed. Orang Asli
communities recognised the opportunities that tourism development brings to their social and economic conditions, although it is not wholly beneficial. They also want to be actively involved in tourism planning. The study contributes to the development of indigenous peoples, especially in Malaysia, promoting a new perspective on long-term tourism development. It also highlights several
new considerations that should be addressed by the authority in planning and managing tourism sites, especially in regard to community acceptance,
involvement and demand for benefits

Modelling Corporate Competitive Capabilities for SMEs in the Malaysian Manufacturing Sector: An Exploratory Study
This study empirically tests the relationship between the four factors of corporate competitive capabilities (CCC) (cost leadership, differentiation, innovative marketing and customer service) and business performance. The study specifically emphasises small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia. The study’s quantitative approach is based on the responses of 135 Malaysian manufacturing SMEs responded to a postal questionnaire. Empirical results from structural equation modelling (SEM) demonstrate an insignificant relationship between CCC and business performance
