This study explores the impacts of the Corporate Social Responsibility educational programme from the schools’ perspectives towards their pupils and school. A qualitative approach was chosen from a case study of these programmes conducted in Malaysia. The method used for data collection was semi-structured interviews. Purposive sampling was adopted to collect data from headmasters/mistresses from 10 primary schools and was analysed using narrative analysis. Findings shows that these programmes have impacted pupils through educational exposure, a holistic approach, academic improvement, feeling motivated, encouraging creativity and assisting in pupils’ future career development. One of the impacts that were related to the educational programmes was the teaching and learning knowledge that was gained by the teachers. Other than that, the educational programmes also eased the financial burden of the school as well as providing benefits to the surrounding community. Schools suggested that the programmes should be improved by creating better and more programme type content, being more academically focused, allocating more funding, being conducted over a longer period for sustainability, and conducting the programme more regularly. Corporate Social Responsibility educational programmes in future are suggested to be academic related which should include an English language programme, information technology, 21st century learning, a green programme, basic skills (read, write, count), a motivational programme, and a study visit. In conclusion, CSR educational programmes initiatives must be sustainable because it had great impact on pupils, teachers, schools, and the community surrounding the school

    Get PDF
No dyslexic children are left behind; it takes a village to raise a child. Thus, fostering the achievement potential of dyslexic children and avoiding their engagement in delinquent conduct is none other than everyone’s responsibility. This research aimed to achieve a deeper understanding of the causes of delinquent behaviour in children with dyslexia and to provide solutions that would steer their attitudes and behaviour towards a more ethical and meaningful life. This qualitative study examined three samples representing dyslexic learning centres located in various places. The data were collected through online semi-structured interviews. Following that, the data were analysed utilising thematic analysis. It was discovered children with dyslexia face a variety of challenges. The community’s and parents’ stigma towards these children, such as being slow and lazy, were proven to have influenced them with deviant behaviour. It was recommended that children with learning difficulties get early detection and intervention, have a robust support system and adopt various pedagogical methods to ensure that all students could learn and guarantee dyslexics’ future success. In conclusion, early detection will enable children to get the proper intervention, preventing them from engaging in delinquent behaviours and assisting them in living in a more fulfilling life

Narrative Review of the Control and Prevention of Knowlesi Malaria

    Get PDF
Despite the reduction in the number of cases of human malaria throughout the world, the incidence rate of knowlesi malaria is continuing to rise, especially in Southeast Asia. The conventional strategies for the prevention and control of human malaria can provide some protection against knowlesi malaria. Despite the numerous studies on the risk factors and the innovative methods that may be used to prevent and control the vectors of Plasmodium knowlesi, the incidence rate remains high. An integrated approach that includes environmental intervention should be adopted in order to ensure the successful control of zoonotic malaria. A combination of personal-level protection, vector control and environmental control may mitigate the risk of Plasmodium knowlesi transmission from macaques to humans and, ultimately, reduce the incidence rate of knowlesi malaria

This study was conducted to acquire the corporate companies’ perspectives on educational programmes under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. It was found out that very little research on educational programmes conducted under CSR initiatives. The aims of the study; therefore, to identify the goals of CSR educational programmes initiatives in rural primary school, to highlight the impact of CSR educational programmes initiatives to the pupils and rural primary school from corporate perspectives; and; to highlight corporate companies’ suggestions in reaching out to more rural schools. Qualitative research method was chose by interviewing five corporate companies which were purposively selected. This exploratory study was analysed based on themes that emerged such as educational programmes goals, impact on pupils, impact on rural primary schools and concern from corporate companies. Findings revealed that the main educational programmes goal is to improve the educational achievement in school. This is by having motivational and team building programmes, educational support programmes, environmental programmes for pupils; training and development for teachers; and motivational talks for parents. Corporate companies stated that participated pupils in CSR educational programmes, have made teachers, school and their parents proud. It was due to improvements among participated pupils by achieving good and better grades in academics and gained self-confidence. Thus, schools were contented that the school ranking has improved. Corporate companies did express their concern on the sustainability of the programme once the educational programme ended. This study concluded that educational programmes under CSR initiatives have given good impact to pupils and schools but, there was no presence of educational programme sustainability in a long-term towards both pupils and school

Sodium’s chemical properties are like lithium and as batteries it has potential to be environmentally friendly, easier to recycle but five times much cheaper than lithium-ion batteries. Sodium cobalt oxide (NaCoO2 ) cathode material in a sodium-ion battery was synthesized by a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) assisted sol-gel method and its physical characterization was being analysed by using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), attenuated total reflectance-fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD). PVA was chosen as gelating agent as well as carbon source for the synthesized material in this study. The cathode material is observed to have smooth morphology and the particle sizes reach to sub-micrometre level which benefit for the high rate performance, although the shape of particles was irregular
