Bardeen black hole chemistry
In the present paper we try to connect the Bardeen black hole with the
concept of the recently proposed black hole chemistry. We study thermodynamic
properties of the regular black hole with an anti-deSitter background. The
negative cosmological constant plays the role of the positive
thermodynamic pressure of the system. After studying the thermodynamic
variables, we derive the corresponding equation of state and we show that a
neutral Bardeen-anti-deSitter black hole has similar phenomenology to the
chemical Van der Waals fluid. This is equivalent to saying that the system
exhibits criticality and a first order small/large black hole phase transition
reminiscent of the liquid/gas coexistence.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, version in press on Physics Letters
Regular black holes in isothermal cavity
We examine the thermodynamic behavior of a static neutral regular
(non-singular) black hole enclosed in a finite isothermal cavity. The cavity
enclosure helps us investigate black hole systems in a canonical or a grand
canonical ensemble. Here we demonstrate the derivation of the reduced action
for the general metric of a regular black hole in a cavity by considering a
canonical ensemble. The new expression of the action contains quantum
corrections at short distances and concludes to the action of a singular black
hole in a cavity at large distances. We apply this formalism to the
noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole, in order to study the phase structure
of the system. We conclude to a possible small/large stable regular black hole
transition inside the cavity that exists neither at the system of a classical
Schwarzschild black hole in a cavity, nor at the asymptotically flat regular
black hole without the cavity. This phase transition seems to be similar with
the liquid/gas transition of a Van der Waals gas.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, version appeared in Physics Letters

Sex-Related Differences in Clinical Outcomes in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation and Coronary Artery Disease: A Sub-Study of the MISOAC-AF Randomized Controlled Trial
Background: There is limited “real-world” data on the prognostic role of gender in comorbid atrial fibrillation (AF) and coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods: In this post-hoc analysis of the MISOAC-AF randomized trial (NCT: 02941978), consecutive patients with AF and CAD who were discharged from the cardiology ward between 2015 and 2018 were included. Multivariable Cox-regression analysis was performed for all-cause mortality and cardiovascular (CV) mortality. Competing-risk analysis was performed for the outcomes of stroke or systemic embolism, major bleeding, AF- or heart failure (HF)-related hospitalization, adjusted for the competing risk of all-cause death. Results: Of 1098 patients with AF, 461 patients with comorbid CAD were analyzed. Women were older and more likely to have a history of diabetes mellitus and valvular heart disease, while men were more likely to have a history of smoking or myocardial infarction. Over a median follow-up of 31 months, 143 (43.4%) men and 71 (53.7%) women died. Women were at a higher risk for all-cause mortality (adjusted hazard ration [aHR] 1.65; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.14–2.38) and stroke or systemic embolism (aHR 3.52; 95% CI 1.46–8.49) compared to men. The risks of CV mortality, major bleeding, AF-related hospitalization, and HF-related hospitalization were similar between genders. Conclusions: In recently hospitalized patients with AF and comorbid CAD, the female gender was independently associated with increased all-cause mortality and thromboembolic events
A Cybersecurity Culture Survey Targeting Healthcare Critical Infrastructures
Recent studies report that cybersecurity breaches noticed in hospitals are associated with low levels of personnel’s cybersecurity awareness. This work aims to assess the cybersecurity culture in healthcare institutions from middle- to low-income EU countries. The evaluation process was designed and performed via anonymous online surveys targeting individually ICT (internet and communication technology) departments and healthcare professionals. The study was conducted in 2019 for a health region in Greece, with a significant number of hospitals and health centers, a large hospital in Portugal, and a medical clinic in Romania, with 53.6% and 6.71% response rates for the ICT and healthcare professionals, respectively. Its findings indicate the necessity of establishing individual cybersecurity departments to monitor assets and attitudes while underlying the importance of continuous security awareness training programs. The analysis of our results assists in comprehending the countermeasures, which have been implemented in the healthcare institutions, and consequently enhancing cybersecurity defense, while reducing the risk surface
