    West Sumatra is an area that still has a high poverty rate is as much as 407,470 people or 8.14% of the total population. One of the effect of this situation is approximately 0.9% of West Sumatra children still suffer from malnutrition due to lack of nutrition, especially protein. By extracting the rice bran, will be acquired proteins that can be used to ensure adequate intake of proteins which have not fulfilled. It's caused by soybean price instability which has been used as a source of protein for most of the population of West Sumatra. By varying the alkaline solution, pH and extraction time will be obtained optimum conditions to obtain the highest protein concentrate that can be used as an alternative protein source. For the determination of protein content contained in each sample was used Kjeldahl method. Having done this research, was obtained the optimum conditions is KOH solution with extraction time was 3 hours and pH 10. Based on the results of ANOVA test shows that the extraction time and extraction pH have significant effect on the yield of concentrate protein. But, extraction solution factor didn't have significant effect

    In vitro rumen fermentability kinetics of parboiled rice bran

    Parboiled rice product has been widely produced by industry in the developing countries. The increasing of parboiled rice product will consequently increased rice bran waste. Therefore, the objective of the study was to analyze the effect of parboiling processes on nutritional value of rice bran and evaluate nutritional value of parboiled rice bran in the rumen fermentation using in vitro digestibility method. The experiment was arranged in completely randomized factorial design with 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor is types of rice bran from different rice plant variety consisted of LIPI GO1, LIPI GO2, LIPI GO4, and Sintanur. The second factor is soaking time consist of 0 minute (control), 30 minutes and 60 minutes. Data were analyzed by using ANOVA and significant effects of each treatment were further analyzed by using the least significant difference by Duncan multiple range test (P<0.05). Kinetic parameters of Ørskov’s equation were obtained by non-linear regression procedure. Results showed that the quality of parboiled rice bran was significantly affected by the parboiling process such as soaking periods and rice variety. Chemical composition, rumen gas production, and digestibility of rice bran differ depends on rice variety. Soaking for 30 minutes and 60 minutes decreased organic matter, crude protein, and increased crude fiber (P<0.05). Moreover, soaking rice grain for 60 minutes increased crude fat. The longer of soaking periods decreased of total gas, potential gas production, gas production rate and total organic matter digestibility (P<0.05)

    Mapping ergonomics application to improve SMEs working condition in industrially developing countries: a critical review

    In industrially developing countries (IDC), small and medium enterprises (SMEs) account for the highest proprotion of employment. Unfortunately, the working conditions in SMEs are often very poor and expose employees to a potentially wide range of health and safety risks. This paper presents a comprehensive review of 161 articles related to ergonomics application in SMEs, using Indonesia as a case study. The aim of this paper is to investigate the extent of ergonomics application and identify areas that can be improved to promote effective ergonomics for SMEs in IDC. The most urgent issue found is the need for adopting participatory approach in contrast to the commonly implemented top-down approach. Some good practices in ergonomics application were also revealed from the review, e.g. a multidisciplinary approach, unsophisticated and low-cost solutions, and recognising the importance of productivity. The review also found that more work is still required to achieve appropriate cross-cultural adaptation of ergonomics application. Practitioner Summary: Despite continuous efforts in addressing ergonomics issues in SMEs of IDC, workers are still exposed to poor work conditions. We reviewed factual-based evidence of current ergonomics application to inform future strategies of ergonomics in IDC, using Indonesia as a case study

    HOUSEHOLD SCALE ORGANIC WASTE PROCESSING IN DROJOGAN HAMLET. Garbage is generated from all activities in homes, offices, markets and various other places. The issue of waste should be of particular concern, so it needs to be addressed from all parties. The purpose of this devotional activity is to increase the role of community to ward off organic waste in household and raise public awareness to create a clean and healthy environment. The method used is to socialize, training and mentoring continuously to the partner community of PKK in RT 03 / RW03 Drojogan, Bumirejo, Mungkid, Magelang. This activity is carried out by providing training in the manufacture of organic compost fertilizer, liquid organic fertilizer and also greenhouse making. The result of this activity is increased knowledge and skills in processing organic waste into compost fertilizer, liquid fertilizer and the establishment of a green house

    Karakteristik Lignin Empat Jenis Bambu (Lignin Characteristic of Four Bamboo Species)

    Lignin is one of the major component of bamboo, together with cellulose and hemicellulose, which may differ comparing to wood lignin. Lignin characteristics of four bamboos species, i.e. betung (Dendrocalamus asper), ampel (Bambusa vulgaris), andong (Gigantochloa nigrociliata), and tali (Gigantochloa apus) were investigated. As lignin characteristics; lignin content and proportion of lignin monomer were investigated by Klason method, UV spectrophotometry, and Pyrolysis Gas-Chromatography analysis, respectively. Lignin content of bamboos varies depending on species and position of sample. Bamboo lignin was categorized into syringyl-guaiacil-p-hydroxyohenil (S-G-H) lignin. There was high correlation between proportion of syringyl unit with acid-soluble lignin obtained during Klason lignin procedure
