Background: The aims of the study was to find out the prevalence of dental caries in healthy and periodontal disease and its association with salivary pH.Methods: A total of 80 healthy subjects reporting to the department of periodontology were selected. They were divided into four groups (clinically healthy gingival, chronic generalized gingivitis, chronic generalized periodontitis, and aggressive periodontitis) with 20 subjects in each. Periodontal parameters; decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index and salivary pH were recorded. Unstimulated whole saliva was collected according to Navazesh method. The pH of saliva was immediately measrued using a single electrode digital pH meter. Results: Based on statistical test it was seen that caries prevalence and DMFT was found out to be least in aggressive periodontitis group, along with least mean pH value, as compared to the other 3 groups, p<0.05.Conclusions: The low prevalence of caries in aggressive periodontitis can be attributed to the low pH of saliva. Salivary pH plays a vital role in the formation of microbial film, which in turn has a significant role in the pathogenesis of both dental caries and periodontitis

    Virtual Voting System

India's voting system plays an important role in Indian Democracy. The existing system is offline and has certain weaknesses. In recent years, the spread of covid19, inefficient rural voters, people far from their place of birth, paper waste affecting nature, budgets that should be used for development, invisible fraud, waste of human labor, have been recorded and can be avoided by the virtual voting system. The research aims to supply an easy and secure electoral system in India. The method used descriptive qualitative. The results indicate that a virtual voting system is environmentally friendly and is considered a resource-saving way for the election. It is because minimizes errors and increases voter participation through convenient virtual voting. In conclusion, a virtual voting system can develop anAadhar based advanced Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), which helps in a free and fair way of conducting election

Electronic Health Records and Cloud based Generic Medical Equipment Interface

Now-a-days Health Care industry is well equipped with Medical Equipments to provide accurate and timely reports of investigation and examination results. Medical Equipments available in market are made for specific tests suited for a particular laboratory leading to a wide variety of devices. The result viewing experience on console of these devices is not only cumborsome for medical staff but inefficient. Therefore, Medical Equipment Interfaces act as backbone of any Hospital Management Information System assisting in better management and delivery of test results. It also acts as a mode to collect data for further research and analysis. These equipments communicate via a fixed data format but compatibility among these formats is a major issue being faced in modern and legacy medical equipments. In this paper, we present a case study of designing and implementing a cloud based Generic Medical Equipment Interface(GMEI) along with the state of the art in such systems. This solution removes the burden of reentry of patient details into the Electronic Health Record(EHR) and thrives for accelerating EMR initiative in the countryComment: National Conference on Medical Informatics 2014 (AIIMS, New Delhi

    Thanatophoric dysplasia: a case report

    Get PDF
Thanatophoric Dysplasia (TD) is a congenital, sporadic and most lethal skeletal dysplasia caused by new mutation in FGFR3 gene. Authors report such a rare case of a term alive baby with dysmorphic features, born to an unbooked, 40 years old G4P3+0 with non-consanguineous marriage; admitted at 9 months of gestation to present hospital with complain of pain abdomen for 2 days. Patient delivered a term female baby of vaginally which had delayed cry after birth, Admitted in NICU immediately with respiratory distress. The baby looked dysmorphic and suggested TD as most likely diagnosis. The case is being reported for its rarity and for high importance of early booking and anomaly scan. Early diagnosis is important since it provides alternative options of termination of pregnancy when an affected foetus is detected

Reducing infiltration rates of peripheral intravenous cannula: A quality improvement initiative in a neonatal intensive care unit of tertiary care hospital in Northern India

    Get PDF
Background: Peripheral venous access is used for infusion of fluids, medications, and blood products. Penetration of these products through an intravenous (IV) access to surrounding tissues causes infiltration or extravasations injuries. Objective: The objective of the study was to measure the incidence of peripheral IV cannula (PIV) infiltration in neonates and reduce infiltration rate by at least 30 % from baseline rate. Methods: This was a quality improvement (QI) study, conducted in the neonatal intensive care unit from March 2018 to June 2018. All the neonates with PIV cannula irrespective of gestational age, postnatal age, and weight were included in the study. The baseline rate of PIV infiltration was determined. A team of doctors and nurses performed root cause analysis of factors responsible for PIV cannula infiltration using fishbone analysis. Various change ideas were tested through sequential Plan-Do-Study-Act cycles. Results: Infiltration rate of PIV cannula after intervention decreased from a baseline incidence rate of 60.8/100 IV–21.4/100 IV days over the study period. Conclusions: A QI approach was able to accomplish a reduction in the infiltration rates of PIV cannula in our unit

Exchange transfusion in neonates: An experience from a tertiary care center in North India

Background: Blood exchange transfusion (ET) involves replacement of affected neonate’s blood with compatible donor blood. Although the use of ET has decreased over years, it still remains a popular emergency rescue procedure for newborns with severe jaundice. Objective: The study was done to describe the indications and complications associated with ET in a 20 bedded neonatal unit of a tertiary care center in North India. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective observational cohort study of neonates who underwent ET from July 2014 to May 2019. Demographic profile, indications and etiology, details of ET procedure, and related adverse events were noted from medical records and chart review. Results: Of 2310 admitted neonates, 77 (3.3%) underwent 103 ETs during the study period with an average rate of 23.3 ETs per year. Hyperbilirubinemia was the most common indication for ET in 53 (68.8%) neonates. Rhesus (Rh) hemolytic disease was the single most frequent etiology for hyperbilirubinemia seen in 43 (55.8%) neonates. A total of 77 adverse events related to ET were seen in 53 (68.8%) neonates whereas 17 (22%) had more than one adverse event. The most common complication was thrombocytopenia in 40 (51.9%) neonates. Overall, mortality was 7 (9.1%); none were attributable to ET. Conclusion: The study identifies Rh hemolytic disease of newborn as the most common etiology leading to ET in newborns. Although ET is a relatively safe procedure, the high incidence of adverse events suggests vigilant monitoring and in-depth expertise for performing and managing complications of the procedure

Named Entity Recognition in Indian court judgments

Identification of named entities from legal texts is an essential building block for developing other legal Artificial Intelligence applications. Named Entities in legal texts are slightly different and more fine-grained than commonly used named entities like Person, Organization, Location etc. In this paper, we introduce a new corpus of 46545 annotated legal named entities mapped to 14 legal entity types. The Baseline model for extracting legal named entities from judgment text is also developed.Comment: to be published in NLLP 2022 Workshop at EMNL

Corpus for Automatic Structuring of Legal Documents

In populous countries, pending legal cases have been growing exponentially. There is a need for developing techniques for processing and organizing legal documents. In this paper, we introduce a new corpus for structuring legal documents. In particular, we introduce a corpus of legal judgment documents in English that are segmented into topical and coherent parts. Each of these parts is annotated with a label coming from a list of pre-defined Rhetorical Roles. We develop baseline models for automatically predicting rhetorical roles in a legal document based on the annotated corpus. Further, we show the application of rhetorical roles to improve performance on the tasks of summarization and legal judgment prediction. We release the corpus and baseline model code along with the paper.Comment: Accepted at LREC 2022, 10 Pages (8 page main paper + 2 page references
