Stratigraphic distribution of Aphidfauna (Hom.) in Eastern Andalusian Mountains (South Spain)

    Get PDF
A total of 148 aphid species belonging to 69 genera and 7 subfamilies collected over last 40 years in Eastem Andalusian mountains has been analyzed with regard to their vertical distribution pattem, percentage composition at generic and specific level with regard to the total fauna at each altitudinal gradient, rarity and abundance and extent of floral association. Comparison has been made with Eastem Himalayan fauna in India showing some striking similarities and also characteristic differential features.

Classification of Objects and Background Using Parallel Genetic Algorithm Based Clustering

In this paper, two novel strategies have been proposed to obtain segmentation of an object and background in a given scene. The first one, known as Featureless(FL) approach, deals with the histogram of the original image where Parallel Genetic Algorithm (PGA) based clustering notion is used to determine the optimal threshold from the discrete nature of the histogram distribution. In this regard, we have proposed a new interconnection model for PGA. The second scheme, the Featured Based(FB) approach, is based on the proposed featured histogram distribution. A feature from the given image is extracted and the histogram corresponding to the derived feature pixels is used to determine the optimal threshold for the original image. The proposed PGA based clustering is used to determine the optimal threshold. The performance of both the schemes is compared with that of Otsu's and Kwon's method and FB method is found to be the best among the three techniques

Review of Odisha State adaptation policies, Mahanadi Delta, WT6.1.2

This series is based on the work of the Deltas, Vulnerability and Climate Change: Migration and Adaptation (DECCMA) project, funded by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) through the Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA).Odisha, being one of the maritime states on the east coast of India, witnessed several historical devastating cyclones and other tropical storm surges, and with the process of climate change, it is considered one of the most vulnerable areas in the region. The Mahanadi Delta region in Odisha faces serious threats and challenges to safeguard land based resources and coastal resources supporting millions of coastal population in terms of climate change and related impacts viz. intense tropical cyclones, coastal erosion, land submergence, coastal inundation. The present situation demands attention and early actions for resilience to the impact of climate change through effective policy/plan changes

Review of national adaptation policies, India - WT6.1.2

This series is based on the work of the Deltas, Vulnerability and Climate Change: Migration and Adaptation (DECCMA) project, funded by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) through the Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA).This report is aimed at focusing on the issue of Adaptation with reference to Climate Change in Indian National Context. India being a signatory to UNFCCC and also to Kyoto Protocol, has been playing a active role in taking appropriate initiative to support “Adaptation”, as a part of action in the mainframe National Policies; besides, featuring Adaptation in the National Environment Policy in 2006 (23), India has also effectively incorporated the subject of Adaptation in the National Action Plan Climate Change in 2008(13) and in host of cross sectoral National Policies for e.g. Agriculture (16), Water (22), Forest (19), Energy (31), Livelihood Security (29;32), etc. This document presents a synoptic review based on Critical Analysis of National Policies and Action Plan which, have referred to the issue of Adaptation due to Climate Change, as an area of consideration

This series is based on the work of the Deltas, Vulnerability and Climate Change: Migration and Adaptation (DECCMA) project, funded by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) through the Collaborative Adaptation Research Initiative in Africa and Asia (CARIAA).The present report aims to identify, catalogue and evaluate the relevant existing State Government Policy/Plan documents on Climate Change Adaptation and related sectors (viz. Disaster Management, Agriculture, Water Resources, Forestry, Fisheries, Health, Energy, Rural Electrification, Poverty Alleviation, and Women Empowerment) in Indian Bengal Delta (IBD), in order to identify Government (State/Sundarbans Sector) Adaptation Responses to Climate Change variability, extremes and Climate Change induced threats to the population, in these islands

Correlation of serum androgen and gonadotropin with anti-mullerian hormone in polycystic ovarian syndrome in Eastern Indian population

    Get PDF
Background: Ovarian steroidogenesis requires gonadotropin stimulation, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is a key factor in the hyperandrogenaemia of the polycystic ovary syndrome. Progesterone is the primary regulator of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) pulse frequency; however, in the polycystic ovary syndrome, the GnRH pulse generator is relatively resistant to the negative feedback effects of progesterone.  Study aims to evaluate the association of Anti-mullerian hormone with serum androgen and gonadotropin level in adolescents and young women of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).Methods: This was a single centre observational Cross-sectional study carried out in the department of Endocrinology and metabolism, Medical College, Kolkata from March 2017 to January 2019. Total number of study subjects were 207 out of which 138 were cases. Results: The AMH had strong positive correlation with serum testosterone in both case and control groups (r 0.542, p<0.001 and r 0.57, p<0.001) respectively .After the adjustment of age and BMI , the AMH moderately positive  but extremely significant correlation with serum testosterone as compare to control. Conclusions: Hyperandrogenaemia and higher ratio of LH and FSH associated with higher serum AMH level is associated with the higher serum AMH in polycystic ovarian syndrome

Development and Evaluation of a PCR Assay for Tracking the Emergence and Dissemination of Haitian Variant ctxB in Vibrio cholerae O1 Strains Isolated from Kolkata, India

A PCR-based assay was developed to discriminate the classical, El Tor, and Haitian types of ctxB alleles. Our retrospective study using this newly developed PCR showed that Haitian ctxB first appeared in Kolkata during April 2006, and 93.3% of strains isolated during 2011 carried the new allele. Dendrogram analysis showed a pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) pattern of the new variant strains isolated recently that was distinct from the PFGE pattern of the strains carrying classical ctxB that closely matched the 2006 to 2007 variant strains
