Binary and ternary quasifission induced by shell effects at near barrier energy in heavy nuclear systems

The study of the true ternary fission (simultaneous decay in three fragments of similar mass) with formation of a heavy third fragment due to strong shell effects has received new interest among nuclear physicists. It is a very rare process which has been studied both theoretically and experimentally since several decades, but still it is quite far from proper understanding. This PhD thesis concerns with the experimental observation of true ternary decay in three reactions. Specifically, ^{37}Cl\,+\,^{208}Pb at 195 MeV, ^{40}Ar\,+\,^{205}Tl at 193 MeV and ^{40}Ar\,+\,^{208}Pb at 193 and 230 MeV reactions were studied at the K130 Cyclotron accelerator of the University of Jyv\ddot{\mbox {a}}skyl\ddot{\mbox {a}}, Finland. The first two reactions populating the same compound nucleus were investigated for possible entrance channel effects, whereas for the last system, ^{40}Ar\,+\,^{208}Pb, two different bombarding energies have been provided to investigate the effect of excitation energy of the compound system. Four time-of-flight (TOF) arms coupled with six ΔEE\Delta E-E telescopes of silicon detectors and a beam monitoring system constitute the complete experimental setup. Two dimensional velocity coincidence maps were built from TOF arms. The presence of cluster patterns in the two-velocity maps for all the reactions is the main observation of this work. Another outcome of the present investigation is the consistent overlap between the tripartitions that reproduce the data in the companion reactions ^{37}Cl\,+\,^{208}Pb and ^{40}Ar\,+\,^{205}Tl, and in the reactions ^{40}Ar\,+\,^{208}Pb at 193 and 230 MeV. These two findings give support to the occurrence of the simultaneous three-body decay. The comparison between the rate for binary and ternary decays has also been achieved by calculating the ratio of such events corrected for the efficiency. These ratios are quite striking because in spontaneous fission the simultaneous ternary decay is several orders of magnitude less abundant. In the case of ^{37}Cl\,+\,^{208}Pb and ^{40}Ar\,+\,^{205}Tl, true ternary fission is even from 2 to 4 times more abundant than binary fission

Television advertising plays an important role on changing the consumer behavior and also provides new patterns for purchasing or using any type of goods and services. It is the most convenient way to reach the female consumers because they are more deployed by advertisement promises that the product will give them something special for satisfaction. The paper aims to assess the impact of television advertisement on purchasing decision of women for acquiring goods and services. This study is based on a survey of 460 randomly selected women from three places i.e. Dhanmondi R.A., Jhigatola, and Circular Road of Dhanmondi area in Dhaka City. The results reveal that advertisements play a vigorous role in familiarizing a new product in the family list and taking right decision during shopping. 74.3% of the respondents after watching TV advertisement want to buy the new brand introduced in the market and 66.3% are of the opinion that T.V. advertisements help them to make better choice during shopping

Farmers’ Perception and Adoption of Agroforestry Practices in Faridpur District of Bangladesh

This study mainly focused on exploring perception of farmers' towards agroforestry practices and identifying the demographic factors influencing agroforestry adoption in Faridpur district. Field survey was conducted during November-December, 2016 using semi-structured questionnaire. Multi-stage random sampling was used to select upazillas, unions and villages. Snowball purposive sampling was applied to select 84 respondents in total for the questionnaire survey. Chi-square was used to test variables at 5% level of significance. Homestead agroforestry was found to be the most common agroforestry practice (39.28%), followed by fruit-based agroforestry (21.42%), woodlot plantation (13.09%) and so on. Agroforestry was perceived to increase farm productivity by 82.14% of the respondents, 73.8% opined that agroforestry increase household income, while 30.95% perceived it as a means to food security. On the contrary, 34.52% opined that agroforestry practices decrease cash crops production, 17.85% of the respondents stated agroforestry as a difficult practice. Chi-square test showed no significant association between the adoption of agroforestry practices and respondent's age (P > 0.05) or income range (P > 0.05) of the respondents. On the other hand, there is a positive significant association between the adoption of agroforestry practices and educational level (p< 0.05) as well as the farm size (p< 0.05) of the respondents. The study suggests raising awareness regarding the benefits of agroforestry practices as well as providing technical assistance

Hardwood Tannin: Sources, Utilizations, and Prospects

    Get PDF
Tannins are found in widely distributed species of plants, and it protects plant from predators and pests. There are three major groups of tannins, that is, hydrolyzable, complex, and proanthocyanidins. Tannins are being used as a significant element for the tanning of animal hides in the leather production industry from the beginning of tannin industry. Then, these have been used for mineral absorption and protein precipitation purposes since the 1960s. Tannins are used for iron gall ink production and wood-based industry as adhesive and anticorrosive, recovering uranium from seawater and removing mercury and methylmercury from solution. In addition, tannins are considered as bioactive compound in nutrition science, and their possible effects on health are to be identified. This chapter outlines the structural and biological properties of hardwood tannins to indicate the positive utilization of them. It also describes the contemporary information on tannins
