    Get PDF
Adoption of cloud computing in organizations is increasing at a rapid pace. It is expected that the majority of the organizations in industrialized nations will be using cloud services to some extent in the near future. In this review I categorize adoption factors utilized in the literature and identify determinants playing a key role in organizations’ decision to adopt cloud. I analyze both quantitative and qualitative evidence and code relationships between factors and adoption of cloud by systematically reviewing the literature. Findings show underrepresentation of the factors related to organization and external environment in cloud adoption literature. This study contributes a set of determinants of cloud adoption, which serves as a foundation for the future research and advancement of the theories in information systems field

The rapid transition to remote work necessitated by the mobility restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19 introduced challenges to the onboarding of new hires for many organizations. Organizations with no prior experience of remote work, had to resort to emergent digital onboarding processes, addressing the problems as they surfaced. This experience has revealed deficiencies in our understanding of digital onboarding processes in both academia and practice. In this paper, we present a qualitative study of an emergent digital onboarding process and newcomer adjustment during the pandemic, within the administrative function of a higher education institution based in the Netherlands. We conducted interviews with 11 newcomers and peers working at the organization during the period of restrictions. Our findings suggest four dimensions that impact newcomer adjustment: 1) relationship building, 2) responsibility and accountability of newcomer adjustment, 3) managing wellbeing and the sense of belonging, and 4) information seeking. Our study advances the discussion on digital onboarding revealing the effects of unplanned transition on newcomers and describing approaches newcomers used to adjust to the new work environment

Business Challenges of News Media Companies on Digital Platforms

    Get PDF
Prior research suggests that digital platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, serve as a channel between news media companies and their customers. In this view, the role of digital platforms is to aggregate user-‐generated content in order to attract more users and advertisers to a platform. However, rapid growth of digital platforms and proliferation of platform-‐based content, such as Snapchat Discovery, Facebook Instant Articles and Youtube channels, challenge the status quo, between news media companies and digital platforms. In this qualitative study we focus on exploring the challenges of news media companies operating on digital platforms. By conducting semi-‐structured interviews with news media companies we derive three key themes and provide a conceptual model for explaining how digital platforms are becoming a marketplace for distributed contribution of news sourced from a wide array of contributing news media. We conclude with future research propositions

Experiment Pamir-3. Coplanar emission of high energy gamma-quanta at interaction of hadrons with nuclei of air atoms at energies above 10 to the 7th power GeV

A systematic analysis of large gamma families, detected in X-ray emulsion chambers, cases of multicore halos have been observed, and among them five events in which the halo is divided into three of four separate cores with their alignment observed in the target diagram (coplanarity of axes of corresponding electron photon cascades). The halo alignment (tendency to the straight line) leads to the aximuthal asymmetry (thrust). The analysis of lateral and momentum distributions of particles in these families shows that they also have thrust that correlates with the direction of the halo core alignment

Managing the move to the cloud – analyzing the risks and opportunities of cloud-based accounting information systems

The accounting industry is being disrupted by the introduction of cloud-based accounting information systems (AIS) that allow for a more efficient allocation of work between the accountant and the client company. In cloud-based AIS, the accountant and the client company as well as third parties such as auditors can simultaneously work on the data in real time. This, in turn, enables a much more granular division of work between the parties. This teaching case considers Kluuvin Apteekki, a small pharmacy business whose owner faces critical management decisions on how to embrace this new opportunity to move to the cloud. Students are guided to evaluate the advantages and drawbacks of cloud computing in the specific context of accounting services. Also, the owner must make a set of critical decisions concerning which tasks to outsource The accounting process comprises of several tasks and sub-tasks, adding to the complexity of the decision making problem. The main learning outcome of the case is related to the development of the skills and competencies needed in creating a strong business case for implementing IT-enabled business processes.Non Peer reviewe

Innovation Through IT and Business Process Outsourcing – Literature Review

    Get PDF
Innovation is increasingly expected in today’s ongoing outsourcing relationships. While prior studies made considerable strides to examine innovation through outsourcing, the research landscape remains highly fragmented. In this review, we bring together and analyse prior research examining this emerging phenomenon in the contexts of IT outsourcing (ITO) and business process outsourcing (BPO). We focus on articles published between 1997 and 2018 in the top outlets across information systems (IS), management, and related disciplines. Our contribution is threefold: First, we present an overview of the key literature on this topic. Second, we identify and document three different scopes of achievable innovation through outsourcing, associated firm-specific intentions and capabilities, and relationship governance structures conducive to such value creating activities. Third, we put forward propositions for future research on innovation through outsourcing
