    Optimal management of post-traumatic radioulnar synostosis

    Post-traumatic radioulnar synostosis is a rare complication after forearm or elbow injury that can result in loss of motion and significant disability. Risk factors include aspects of the initial trauma and of the surgical treatment of that trauma. Surgical intervention for synostosis is the standard of care and is determined based on the location of the bony bridge. Surgical timing is recommended between 6 months and 2 years with recent advocacy for the 6- to 12-month period after radiographs demonstrate bony maturation but early enough to prevent further stiffness and contractures. For most types of synostosis, surgical resection with interposition graft is recommended. The types of materials used include synthetic, allograft, and vascularized and non-vascularized materials, but currently there is no consensus on which is the most preferable. Adjuvant therapy is not considered necessary for all cases but can be beneficial in patients with high risk factors such as recurrence or traumatic brain injury. Postoperative rehabilitation should be performed early to maintain range of motion. © 2017 Osterman and Arief

    Nonparametric identification of accelerated failure time competing risks models

    We provide new conditions for identification of accelerated failure time competing risks models. These include Roy models and some auction models. In our set up, unknown regression functions and the joint survivor function of latent disturbance terms are all nonparametric. We show that this model is identified given covariates that are independent of latent errors, provided that a certain rank condition is satisfied. We present a simple example in which our rank condition for identification is verified. Our identification strategy does not depend on identification at infinity or near zero, and it does not require exclusion assumptions. Given our identification, we show estimation can be accomplished using sieves.

    The interrelationship of clinical supervision and peer coaching strategies to improve instructional effectiveness were studied. A peer coaching in-service program, detailing coaching procedures and activities, was developed and implemented in the social studies department at Mount Si High School. The results of the program showed that peer coaching can be utilized by teachers to assume greater leadership and responsibility in the area of instructional improvement

    Union commitment: A two-sample multivariate analysis of a professional white-collar union local and a typical blue-collar manufacturing union local

    This study assesses union commitment using a quasi-experimental methodology to determine and test the hypothesis that there is no difference in commitment levels of white-collar and blue-collar union workers. A self reporting pencil and paper survey instrument was used to gather the data. Two specific union locals in the same area were chosen to participate in the survey. One local was a white-collar, engineering local and the other was a tire manufacturing local. These two locals were chosen on the basis of location and attributes that met the research requirements. There were ten hypotheses formulated that contended that the level of commitment was the same for both white and blue-collar workers. Such attributes as loyalty, participation, family history, fair treatment, attitudes, (toward work, the organization, and the union) and other opportunities were hypothesized to be the same. The data was analyzed using Hotelling\u27s T\sp2 statistic, a special form of MANOVA. The tests of significance at a.01 level determined all hypotheses should be rejected. There was a significant statistical difference in white-collar and blue-collar workers based on level of commitment. The implications of this research is that this kind of finding can lead to better decision making by both unions and companies. Unions in organizing efforts and companies in determining the needs and wants of their work-force can benefit from this type of research
