    1-(1H-Benzimidazol-1-ylmeth­yl)-3-[2-(di­isopropyl­amino)eth­yl]-1H-benzimid­azolium bromide 0.25-hydrate

    The title N-heterocyclic carbene derivative, C23H30N5 +·Br−·0.25H2O, was synthesized using microwave heating and was characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. The structure of the title compound are stabilized by a network of intra- and inter­molecular C—H⋯Br hydrogen-bonding inter­actions. The crystal structure is further stabilized by π–π stacking inter­actions between benzene and imidazole fragment rings of parallel benzo[d]imidazole rings, with a separation of 3.486 (3) Å between the centroids of the benzene and imidazole rings. There is also an inter­molecular C—H⋯π inter­action in the crystal structure. The C—N bond lengths for the central benzimidazole ring are shorter than the average single C—N bond, thus showing varying degrees of double-bond character and indicating partial electron delocalization within the C—N—C—N—C fragment. The isopropyl group is disordered over two sites with occupancies of 0.792 (10) and 0.208 (10)

    Suffering and happiness in Turkish folk poetry in the context of positive psychology: The examples of Asik Mahzuni Serif and Neset Ertas

    The widespread adoption of positive psychology at the beginning of the century has fortified the scholarly foundations of “happiness.” Thus, researchers have focused on “happiness” rather than “suffering” in boosting the joy of life within positive psychology, aiming for individuals to achieve peace with themselves and society. With the developments in positive psychology, over recent years, the idea of integrating both positive and negative aspects of human nature to build a better life for oneself and others has contributed to the rise of second-wave positive psychology (PP 2.0). The present study aimed to explore suffering and happiness in Turkish folk culture through a sample of poems by Asik Mahzuni Serif and Neset Ertas. The study results indicated that suffering-themed concepts were mentioned more than happiness-themed concepts. Within the theme of suffering, the world was the most frequently mentioned concept in Mahzuni’s works. He emphasizes in his works that the world is the source of many sufferings. In Ertas’s poems, moreover, love was found to be the most frequently mentioned suffering-themed concept. Ertas considers love to be the most significant source of suffering. It was also determined that while separation is the least used concept in the theme of suffering in Mahzuni’s verses, it is never mentioned in Ertas’s poems. Other concepts pointing to the theme of suffering are poverty, ignorance, longing, death, and slavery. We found that the theme of happiness is mentioned much less frequently than the theme of suffering. While the most used happiness-themed concept is misery/remedy, in Mahzuni’s words, love is cited in Ertas’s poems. Expressing the view that suffering can be an opportunity for people, Mahzuni emphasizes in his poems that people can grow by learning lessons from their suffering. Ertas, moreover, sees love as the most important source of happiness. The other concepts referencing happiness in the poems were friend, mother, soft answer, and spring. Overall, the results suggest that suffering is an important source of building resilience, which, in turn, can produce happiness. People can grow with the help of the experience of suffering so that this experience can contribute to their flourishing

    A medium frequency transformer design for spot welding machine using sizing equation and finite element analysis

    In this study, a medium frequency power transformer has been designed analytically and its sizes have been obtained. The transformer’s analyses were made numerically by 2D AnsysMaxwell Solver software package. The Solver has also helped to study suitable transformer core and winding samples. Unlike medium frequency transformer, which is generally driven by unipolar PWM method, the designed transformer is driven by bipolar PWM method in the study. The core losses were obtained for different core materials (Trafoperm N3 and Amorfous 2605SA1) by AnsysMaxwell numerical and analytical calculations. The calculated losses for no-load working conditions were compared with each other. The designed transformer has been analyzed for its noload and loaded working conditions magnetically. Finally, the radial and axial forces created in the windings have also been examined for loaded working condition

    Spatial Distribution of the Incompressible Strips at Aharonov-Bohm Interferometer

    In this work, the edge physics of an Aharonov-Bohm interferometer (ABI) defined on a two dimensional electron gas, subject to strong perpendicular magnetic field B, is investigated. We solve the three dimensional Poisson equation using numerical techniques starting from the crystal growth parameters and surface image of the sample. The potential profiles of etched and gate defined geometries are compared and it is found that the etching yields a steeper landscape. The spatial distribution of the incompressible strips is investigated as a function of the gate voltage and applied magnetic field, where the imposed current is confined to. AB interference is investigated due to scattering processes between two incompressible "edge-states".Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

    Evaluating the statistics courses in terms of the statistical literacy: Didactic pathways of pre-Service mathematics teachers

    This study intends to determine the statistical literacy levels of pre-service mathematics teachers and to evaluate the contribution of the statistics courses in the elementary mathematics education curriculum to statistical literacy. A mixed methods research design was adopted. The study group consisted of 202 pre-service mathematics teachers enrolled in the Statistics and Probability course. In the data collection process, a pre-test and post-test was administered to determine the pre-service teachers' statistical literacy before and after the statistical course, and classroom observations were performed to identify the contribution of the statistics course to statistical literacy. The Rasch model was used for validity-reliability analyses, and one-way ANOVA tests were used to analyze the quantitative data. Content analysis was utilized in the analysis of qualitative data, which revealed that statistical literacy levels of pre-service teachers are generally low, generally influencing the competence of pre-service teachers. The pre-service teachers failed in the sample selection component in the pretest and data interpretation in the post- test, while they were more successful with table and graphs in the pre-test and sample selection in the post-test. The comparative analysis of revealed statistically significant differences in favor of U4 in the pre- test, but in favor of U1 in the post-test. It was concluded that practices included in the statistics lessons could be effective on these differences
