Trend-Based Networking Driven by Big Data Telemetry for Sdn and Traditional Networks

International Journal of Next-Generation Networks (IJNGN) Vol.11, No.1, March 2019 Organizations face a challenge of accurately analyzing network data and providing automated action based on the observed trend. This trend-based analytics is beneficial to minimize the downtime and improve the performance of the network services, but organizations use different network management tools to understand and visualize the network traffic with limited abilities to dynamically optimize the network. This research focuses on the development of an intelligent system that leverages big data telemetry analysis in Platform for Network Data Analytics (PNDA) to enable comprehensive trend-based networking decisions. The results include a graphical user interface (GUI) done via a web application for effortless management of all subsystems, and the system and application developed in this research demonstrate the true potential for a scalable system capable of effectively benchmarking the network to set the expected behavior for comparison and trend analysis. Moreover, this research provides a proof of concept of how trend analysis results are actioned in both a traditional network and a software-defined network (SDN) to achieve dynamic, automated load balancing.</p

Controlling the group velocity of an intense laser pulse using a pre-pulse

The accelerating structure of the laser wakefield accelerator (LWFA) is dynamic and highly sensitive to the local laser and plasma properties. It can expand and contract as it responds to the evolution of the laser and plasma fields. As a result, the position of, and environment within, the LWFA bubble are usually time dependent, which is not ideal for stable acceleration. Variations can have a negative impact on electron bunch properties, and are deleterious for ion channel lasers and plasma wigglers. We demonstrate how a laser pre-pulse improves the stability of the LWFA, and controls the evolution of the laser group and bubble velocity, which are important for determining LWFA dephasing and ultimately the electron bunch energy

Development of a low-cost electronic stethoscope - DIY Digital Stethoscope

Auscultation while wearing PPE (especially coveralls), using traditional stethoscopes is often not feasible. While some commercially electronic stethoscopes can circumvent this problem by playing audio using headphones over/ inside PPE, the currently available ones are too costly. We plugged an electret microphone into earpiece of a stethoscope and through various audio processing algorithms improved the audio quality. We packaged these processes into an app, freely available for download from Google Play Store. Audio quality through this device is at least equivalent to the one heard through traditional stethoscopes. We are validating the device in pediatric and adult clinical setup
