association of 41 public and private sector donors that supports a network of sixteen international agricultural research institutes, CIFOR being the newest of these. The Group was established in 1971. The CGIAR Centers are part of a global agricultural research system which endeavours to apply international scientific capacity to solving of the problems of the world’s disadvantaged people. CIFOR CIFOR was established under the CGIAR system in response to global concerns about the social, environmental and economic consequences of loss and degradation of forests. The nature and duration of these partnerships are determined by the specific research problems being addressed.
