The Massive Thermal Basketball Diagram
The "basketball diagram" is a three-loop vacuum diagram for a scalar field
theory that cannot be expressed in terms of one-loop diagrams. We calculate
this diagram for a massive scalar field at nonzero temperature, reducing it to
expressions involving three-dimensional integrals that can be easily evaluated
numerically. We use this result to calculate the free energy for a massive
scalar field with a phi^4 interaction to three-loop order.Comment: 19 pages, 3 figure
Initial Leakage Under Pit and Fissure Sealants Assessed by Neutron Activation
An improved neutron activation method and a model system were used to study microleakage associated with three pit and fissure sealants. Both the sealant and the etching procedure were evaluated on enamel surfaces as well as in prepared model pits. Leakage was reduced to 3 to 4 ÎĽg for all three materials, and the etching process was relatively ineffective in forming an initial seal.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/66699/2/10.1177_00220345740530062501.pd
Relativistic ponderomotive force, uphill acceleration, and transition to chaos
Starting from a covariant cycle-averaged Lagrangian the relativistic
oscillation center equation of motion of a point charge is deduced and
analytical formulae for the ponderomotive force in a travelling wave of
arbitrary strength are presented. It is further shown that the ponderomotive
forces for transverse and longitudinal waves are different; in the latter,
uphill acceleration can occur. In a standing wave there exists a threshold
intensity above which, owing to transition to chaos, the secular motion can no
longer be described by a regular ponderomotive force.

QUANTIZATION OF A CLASS OF PIECEWISE AFFINE TRANSFORMATIONS ON THE TORUS
We present a unified framework for the quantization of a family of discrete
dynamical systems of varying degrees of "chaoticity". The systems to be
quantized are piecewise affine maps on the two-torus, viewed as phase space,
and include the automorphisms, translations and skew translations. We then
treat some discontinuous transformations such as the Baker map and the
sawtooth-like maps. Our approach extends some ideas from geometric quantization
and it is both conceptually and calculationally simple.Comment: no. 28 pages in AMSTE
Neutron charge form factor at large
The neutron charge form factor is determined from an analysis of
the deuteron quadrupole form factor data. Recent calculations, based
on a variety of different model interactions and currents, indicate that the
contributions associated with the uncertain two-body operators of shorter range
are relatively small for , even at large momentum transfer . Hence,
can be extracted from at large without undue
systematic uncertainties from theory.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure
Recent advances in neutrinoless double beta decay search
Even after the discovery of neutrino flavour oscillations, based on data from
atmospheric, solar, reactor, and accelerator experiments, many characteristics
of the neutrino remain unknown. Only the neutrino square-mass differences and
the mixing angle values have been estimated, while the value of each mass
eigenstate still hasn't. Its nature (massive Majorana or Dirac particle) is
still escaping. Neutrinoless double beta decay (-DBD) experimental
discovery could be the ultimate answer to some delicate questions of elementary
particle and nuclear physics. The Majorana description of neutrinos allows the
-DBD process, and consequently either a mass value could be measured or
the existence of physics beyond the standard should be confirmed without any
doubt. As expected, the -DBD measurement is a very difficult field of
application for experimentalists. In this paper, after a short summary of the
latest results in neutrino physics, the experimental status, the R&D projects,
and perspectives in -DBD sector are reviewed.Comment: 36 pages, 7 figures, To be publish in Czech Journal of Physic
Resummations of free energy at high temperature
We discuss resummation strategies for free energy in quantum field theories
at nonzero temperatures T. We point out that resummations should be performed
for the short- and long-distance parts separately in order to avoid spurious
interference effects and double-counting. We then discuss and perform Pade
resummations of these two parts for QCD at high T. The resummed results are
almost invariant under variation of the renormalization and factorization
scales. We perform the analysis also in the case of the massless scalar
theory.Comment: 16 pages, revtex4, 15 eps-figures; minor typographic errors

Next-to-leading order QCD predictions for W+2j and Z+2j production at the CERN LHC
We present cross sections and differential distributions for QCD radiative
corrections to the QCD processes pp -> W+2j and pp -> Z+2j at the CERN LHC.
Calculations are performed with the Monte Carlo program MCFM. Cross section
dependence on the renormalization and factorization scales is greatly reduced,
except for the heavy-flavor case of Wbb~, which has new features at
next-to-leading order at the LHC. We also present cross sections for Wbb~ and
Z+2j in kinematic configurations relevant for Higgs boson searches.Comment: 24p, PRD version, ref's corrected, add. paragraph to explain pTmiss
