The Importance of the Territorial Articulation of the Intermediate Scale in the Recovery of the Work Memory. The Case of Barbate
This article explores the recovery of industrial environments to verify the influence
that both the coastal landscape and productive activity have on the configuration of
the identity image of medium-scale cities.
For this, it deepens in the importance of the intermediate scale in the territorial organization
to delve into its impact on the articulation of the productive fabric of the
seacoast. Subsequently, the methodological application of a contemporary urban
recovery instrument is approached, recognizing the specific challenges of the case
of study, Barbate, and establishing strategic lines that contribute to respond to the
work proposed. Finally, there are a series of thoughts that confirm the development
of local identities within the global panorama thanks to the memory of work
A preliminary analysis on the emotional impact of synchronous, collaborative CAD tools
Thesis: S.B., Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering, 2018.Cataloged from PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (page 29).This thesis seeks to explore the effectiveness or lack thereof of synchronous, collaborative CAD software, and compare the performance of individuals utilizing such software to one another. Two platforms were used, Solidworks and Onshape, in which the latter had both an independent and a synchronous, collaborative option available. 16 individuals who were already familiar with CAD tools participated in the study, with each utilizing one of the prescribed workflows for the entirety of the hour long trial. Video of the participant's faces and onscreen interaction with the software was recorded throughout the duration of a prescribed task, and the video was utilized in the analysis section of this study. An in depth empirical and statistical analysis is subsequently outlined, and is intended to be utilized as a stepping stone to a later study that will correlate the emotional analysis summarized here with another study dedicated to the user interaction with the software.by Cameron Arnet.S.B
Success of a sustained pharmaceutical care service with electronic adherence monitoring in patient with diabetes over 12 months
We report on the first polypharmacy adherence monitoring over 371 days, integrated into a pharmaceutical care service (counselling, electronic multidrug punch cards, feedback on recent electronic records) for a 65-year-old man with diabetes after hospital discharge. The initial daily regimen of four times per day with 15 pills daily changed after 79 days into a daily regimen of two times per day with 9 pills daily for the next 292 days. The patient removed all medication from the multidrug punch cards (taking adherence 100%) and had 96.9% correct dosing intervals (timing adherence). The 57 evening doses showed the least variation in intake times at 17 h 45 min±8 min. Over the observation year, the patient was clinically stable. He was very satisfied with the multidrug punch card and the feedback on electronic records. In conclusion, long-term monitoring of polypharmacy was associated with the benefit of successful disease management
Evaluating the Liverpool Care Pathway for care of the terminally ill in rural Australia
© 2015, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg. Purpose: This study evaluates a pilot implementation of the Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP), a clinical tool used to guide the care of dying patients in the last days of life, on the end-of-life care for dying patients in three regions in rural Australia. Methods: The LCP was implemented at 13 participating sites: nine hospitals (general wards), one community-based palliative care service, and three in-hospital palliative care units. To evaluate the implementation of the LCP, 415 eligible patient records were examined: 223 pre-implementation and 192 post-implementation (116 on the LCP and 76 receiving usual care). The primary analysis compared all patients pre-implementation of the LCP versus all patients post-implementation. Results: Increases were found post-implementation for communication with other health professionals and with patients or family (pre-69 %, post-87 %; p ≤ 0.000), use of palliative medications (pre-87 %, post-98 %; p ≤ 0.000) and frequency of symptom assessments (pre-66 %, post-82 %; p ≤ 0.000). Fewer blood and radiological investigations were conducted and venous access devices used in the post-implementation groups than in the pre-implementation period. Conclusions: This study suggests that when rigorously implemented, the LCP improves important components of end-of-life care for dying patients and their families
A comparative investigation of the efficacy of CO2 and high power diode lasers for the forming of EN3 mild steel sheets
A comparative investigation of the effectiveness of a high power diode laser (HPDL) and a CO2 laser for the forming of thin section EN3 mild steel sheet has been conducted. The buckling mechanism was identified as the laser forming mechanism responsible for the induced bending. For both lasers it was found that the induced bending angles increased with an increasing number of irradiations and high laser powers, whilst decreasing as the traverse speed was increased. Also, it was apparent from the experimental results that the laser bending angle was only linearly proportional to the number of irradiations when the latter was small due to local material thickening along the bend edge with a high number of irradiations. Owing to the mild steel’s greater beam absorption at the HPDL wavelength, larger bending angles were induced when using the HPDL. However, under certain conditions the performance of the CO2 laser in terms of induced bending angle was seen to approach that of the HPDL. Nevertheless, similar results between the two lasers were only achieved with increasing irradiations, thus it was concluded that the efficacy of the HPDL was higher than that of the CO2 laser insofar as it was more efficient. From graphical results and the employment of an analytical procedure, the laser line energy range in which accurate control of the HPDL bending of the mild steel sheets could be exercised efficiently was found to be 53 J mm-1 < P/v < 78 J mm-1, whilst for the CO2 laser the range was 61 J mm-1 < P/v < 85 J mm-1
Fundamental progress in investigating drug resistance with electronic multidrug compliance monitoring (e-MCM)
Current definitions of drug resistance are shaped by the pharmacotherapeutic fields they occurred in. They usually mention various contributing factors and refer either to the clinical or the biomarker level. Particular attention has been attracted by antiplatelet resistance, a phenomenon with clinical, cellular and pharmacogenetical contributors. However, the impact of every single factor to antiplatelet resistance in outpatients under prescribed antiplatelet therapy has not been comprehensively evaluated so far, neither has the temporal pattern of drug intake been studied as a possible contributor
