    Mass or heat transfer inside a spherical gas bubble at low to moderate Reynolds number

    Mass (or heat) transfer inside a spherical gas bubble rising through a stationary liquid is investigated by direct numerical simulation. Simulations were carried out for bubble Reynolds number ranging from 0.1 to 100 and for Péclet numbers ranging from 1 to 2000. The study focuses on the effect of the bubble Reynolds number on both the interfacial transfer and the saturation time of the concentration inside the bubble. We show that the maximum velocity Umax at the bubble interface is the pertinent velocity to describe both internal and external transfers. The corresponding Sherwood (or Nusselt) numbers and the saturation time can be described by a sigmoid function depending on the Péclet number Pemax = Umaxdb/D (db and D being the bubble diameter and the corresponding diffusion coefficient)

    One-dimensional modelling of global hydrodynamics and mass transfer is developed for an annulus sparged draft tube airlift reactor operating at high gas throughputs. In a first part, a specific closure law for the mean slip velocity of bubbles in the riser is proposed according for, in one hand, the collective effects on bubble rise velocity and, in the other hand, the size of the liquid recirculation in the airlift riser. This global hydrodynamics model is found towel explain the global gas volume fraction measurements in the airlift riser for a wide range of superficial gas velocity (0.6 ≤ Jg ≥10 cm sˉ¹). In a second part, mass transfer in the airlift has been studied by using the gassing-out method and a dual-tip optical probe to measure the bubble size distributions. As for bubble columns, in such airlift, the volumetric mass transfer coefficient appears to be quite proportional to the gas superficial velocity. Finally, as in Colombet et al. (2011), mass transfer at the bubble scale seems to be weakly influenced by an increase of gas volume fraction

    Low Power Implementation of Non Power-of-Two FFTs on Coarse-Grain Reconfigurable Architectures

    The DRM standard for digital radio broadcast in the AM band requires integrated devices for radio receivers at very low power. A System on Chip (SoC) call DiMITRI was developed based on a dual ARM9 RISC core architecture. Analyses showed that most computation power is used in the Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (COFDM) demodulation to compute Fast Fourier Transforms (FFT) and inverse transforms (IFFT) on complex samples. These FFTs have to be computed on non power-of-two numbers of samples, which is very uncommon in the signal processing world. The results obtained with this chip, lead to the objective to decrease the power dissipated by the COFDM demodulation part using a coarse-grain reconfigurable structure as a coprocessor. This paper introduces two different coarse-grain architectures: PACT XPP technology and the Montium, developed by the University of Twente, and presents the implementation of a\ud Fast Fourier Transform on 1920 complex samples. The implementation result on the Montium shows a saving of a factor 35 in terms of processing time, and 14 in terms of power consumption compared to the RISC implementation, and a\ud smaller area. Then, as a conclusion, the paper presents the next steps of the development and some development issues

In this paper, we will study TCP traces collected in Reunion Island University. The goal is to determine the metrics to study the impacts of long delays on TCP performance

    Impact of GUI personalization of a word processor on a learning activity course

    [EN] This research investigates the impact of an activity of personalization of a graphical user interface by the learners, on their behavior of using the ILE. The analysis conducted is based on an exploitation of the interaction traces between the learner and the interface of a word processor software with advanced personalization and auto-writing features including training of spelling and a learning analytics management module. The results show that, several variables related to the facilitation conditions recognized by the ILE partly explain the writing activity. Navigation variable can be correlated with the knowledge of customization possibilities. If the automatic sentence generator has no significant effect on the number of misspellings found in the documents submitted, the intention to personalize the interface seems to have a greater effect than the act of personalization itself.     The Notion of Hyper-wandering in Apprehending the Mobility of Israelis After the Army Along the Andes Cordillera

    Through the study of Israeli tourist mobility, this article questions the interrelations between wandering and hypermobility. In Israel, travelling after the completion of compulsory military service is a valued practice in contemporary society, and several thousand recently discharged young people pursue this faraway wandering every year. This article examines the phenomenon of post-military travel in Chile by proposing an approach based on spatial and virtual mobility and on the motility capital of the practitioners. The analysis of these mobilities reveals a form of long, flexible and virtually connected wandering that is part of the era of hypermobility. The insertion of the practice in a global and digitised context leads us to position it in a new category that we call hyper-wandering
