    Prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among doctors in a tertiary care centre in north India

    Background: Vitamin D is unique among vitamins as it can be synthesized from the action of ultra-violet radiation (UVR) upon the skin of human beings. This study was done to investigate the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among health care professionals.Methods: This was institution based study conducted over a period of two years at Govt. Medical College Hospital. The study was conducted on 200 healthy doctors working in different departments of Govt. Medical College and Associated Hospitals, Jammu for a period of two years. Data regarding demographic characteristics, lifestyle assessment, exposure to sunshine on workdays and weekends, type of clothing, use of sunscreen, subjective general health, dietary assessment and use of calcium or vitamin D supplements was collected using a structured questionnaire.Results: Mean value of age of study subjects was 26.18±2.09 years. Results showed that 50% were male and 50% were females. In this study, 65.50% of the study subjects were Hindu and 30% of study subjects were Muslim. Majority of the study subjects had exposure to sunlight for less than 20 minutes and only 10 out of 200 study subjects had exposure to sunlight for more than 30 minutes. In this study, 97% of the study subjects were vitamin D deficient and only 3% were vitamin D sufficient. Among 196 study subjects with vitamin D deficiency, severe deficiency was present in 30.41% (59 out of 194) of study subjects, moderate deficiency was present in 60.82% (118 out of 194) of study subjects and very few study subjects had mild vitamin D deficiency.Conclusions: Vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent among healthy medical college students. Lack of awareness regarding importance of vitamin D requirement, inadequate exposure to sunlight, changes in lifestyle and food habits contribute to low vitamin D levels in young population

    EFFECT OF JOB STRESS ON JOB SATISFACTION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS WORKING IN GOVERNMENT COLLEGES

    The current research is an attempt to examine the effect of job stress on job satisfaction of physical education teachers working in government colleges, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan. A cross-sectional research method was used to collect required data from a finite population N=170 (males=97; females=73). Self-made questionnaires namely, Job Stress Questionnaire (JSQ) and Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (JSQ) were developed and used for the collection of required data. A statistical package for social sciences (SPSS), version; 26 was used to analyze the collected data, revealing negligible and inverse correlation (-.887, -.633 & -.721). The study revealed a significant impact of job stressors on job satisfaction (p < .05). Additionally, male physical education teachers reported a higher mean score on various variables included in the study (p < .05). These findings help policymakers to devise a uniform human policy that could protect the interests of the physical education teachers to share responsibilities of carving out the future of the country.  Â

    EFFECTS OF AEROBIC EXERCISE PROTOCOL ON HIGH DENSITY LIPOPROTEIN HDL LEVEL AMONG YOUNG ADULTS; AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY

    Purpose: Exercise has paramount significant in the life of individuals. But unfortunately, very few studies have been conducted in Pakistan regarding the effects of exercise upon HDL level. Therefore, the present study was subjected to evaluate the effects of six (06) weeks supervised aerobic exerciseprotocol on High Density Lipoprotein among young adults aged between 35-40 years. Materials: Twenty-Four (24) volunteer untrained young adults from within the Bannu City and allied areas were selected as subjects’ age range between 35- 40 years. Keeping into consideration, the present study was supported with pre and post experimental research method. The six (06) weeks aerobic exercise protocol was used to collect relevant data on the selected dependent variable. The High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) of the subjects were measured with the help of CHOD PAP method. The results were than recorded in figures. The pre and post test data on the selected criterion variables were collected by administering the test as per the standardized procedures before and after the six weeks of the training program. Results: After the aerobic exercise protocol, the subjects of CG exhibited no significant difference in HDL (P>0.05). According to the analyzed data, the P=value was recorded as .709 that is higher than the standard value of 0.05. Upon these data, the researcher found that after the aerobic exercise protocol, no significant difference between exhibited between pre- and post-intervention quantities of HDL of Experimental Group (P>0.05). Conclusions: Based on the analyzed data, it can be interpreted that aerobic exercise helped in increasing HDL of Experimental Group. The increase in HLD is considered as good because the increase in HDL helps in preventing the heart valves from stroke and heart attack

    ASSESSMENT OF LIFE SKILLS AMONG COLLEGE UNDERGRADUATE-STUDENTS; IMPLICATION FOR ENHANCING STUDENTS ACADEMICS AND PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

    The literature indicates that life skills assessment and development is endemic throughout the globe. However, lacking are national studies that have researched life skills assessment at the college level. The present investigation aimed to assess the level of life skills among college undergraduate-students of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Besides, the differences based on personal and demographic attributes in respect of life skills were also taken into consideration. A sample of (n=794) 5 % of the total population (15890) was selected and included in the survey. Life Skills Assessment Scale (LSAS) developed by (N.R. Prakash, S. Nirmala Devi, 2014) was used for collecting the required data. The gathered information was processed using (SPSS) version 24. Results of the study indicated that the overall nature of life skills among college students is moderate. The findings of the study indicated that the female-students reported less life skills compared to their counterparts’ male undergraduate-students (p .05). It is hoped that the results of this research will be more helpful for administrators, educators, curriculum designers and other social duties to improve teaching-learning and personality development for learners

    IMPACT OF INNOVATIVNESS ON OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE OF GOVERONMENT LEVEL COMPANIES (GLCs): A MODERATING ROLE OF INCENTIVE SCHEMES

    Corporate Entrepreneurship (CE) is not a new strategy of fostering a firm’s performance and to increase customer satisfaction and market share, espoused by striving firms. However, studies on the effect of CE on the performance of GLCs are not common in literature, especially in the eastern world. The literature strongly indicates the requirement of more workable models of CE for GLCs in Pakistan, due to dearth in existing studies on the subject. Hence, the aim of this study is to gauge the impact of the most compelling element of CE on the operational performance of GLCs. This study has also been supplemented with the moderating role of incentive schemes in order to effectively gauge the motivational aspect in CE of GLCs. The analysis has been made through SMART PLS and structural equational modelling was used as the tool of analysis. Analysis indicated that innovation is perceived as one of the prime tools that may affect operational performance, although GLCs have different compensation structures and thus does not seem to be affecting the relationship of innovativeness and operational performance of GLCs

    Angular Kinematics and Physical Fitness Analysis of Tall height and Short Height Javelin Throwers- A Case Study of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan

    This study was designed to compare the physical fitness and angular position of the university level javelin throwers. Eight tall height and (n = 08) short height javelin throwers were selected for data collection. A handgrip dynamometer, stadiometer, and weight balance were used for the measurements of physical fitness. Two video cameras a Kinovea software was utilized for video analysis of the Javelin throws. The selected variables were stature, body mass, standing broad jump, maximum bench press handgrip strength, the javelin throw distance. The angle of knee joint, elbow joints, and stride length was selected variables while performing the javelin throw. An independent t-test was applied to find mean difference among tall and short height javelin thrower. The result showed the distance of javelin throw, handgrip strength, maximum bench press, vertical jump, and standing broad jump of tall height throwers were significantly higher than short height javelin throwers. On the other hand, the tall height throwers were also significantly higher in extension of right elbow, right knee, and stride length than the short height at the time of the javelin release from hand. It was concluded the longer arms, body mass, and angular kinematics of javelin throwers are associated with the better performance. It is suggested the physical fitness would be include in the selection of javelin throw and angular movement of the right knee and elbow focused on training of javelin thrower

    Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is one of the most fascinating disorders in psychiatry. The arduous search to reveal the obscurity of this disorder has led to colossal research in this area over the years. Although drug-assisted interviews are not widely used, they may be beneficial for some patients that do not respond to conventional treatments such as supportive psychotherapy or psychopharmacotherapy. Drug-assisted interviews facilitate recall of memories in promoting integration of dissociative information. We report a case of a 16-year-old female with dissociative identity disorder (DID) that was treated with lorazepam-assisted interview and there was rapid improvement in symptoms after the interview
