    Armazenamento de sementes de pinhão manso em diferentes embalagens e ambientes.

    O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de pinhão manso armazenadas em diferentes embalagens e ambientes. O experimento foi conduzido na Universidade Federal de Viçosa, em Viçosa-MG. As sementes, com teor de água de 8,3%, foram acondicionadas em embalagem de pano e de plástico e armazenadas por 450 dias em condições de laboratório (sem controle de temperatura e U.R.); sala refrigerada (18 a 20 ºC e 55 a 60% de U.R.); câmara fria (10 a 12 ºC e 55 a 60% de U.R.) e câmara fria (5 a 7 ºC e 60 a 65% de U.R.). No início do armazenamento e a cada 90 dias, foram determinados o teor de água, a germinação e o vigor das sementes. Redução na qualidade fisiológica das sementes de pinhão manso ocorreu durante o armazenamento, independentemente das condições de ambiente e embalagem. As sementes podem ser armazenadas por 270 dias em ambiente não controlado, em Viçosa-MG. Para armazenamento por tempo superior a 270 dias, é recomendada a utilização de ambiente refrigerado, com temperatura mais ou menos 18-20 °C, independentemente da embalagem utilizada

    Dynamical reentrance and geometry imposed quantization effects in Nb-AlOx-Nb Josephson junction arrays

    In this paper, we report on different phenomena related to the magnetic properties of artificially prepared highly ordered (periodic) two-dimensional Josephson junction arrays (2D-JJA) of both shunted and unshunted Nb-AlOx-Nb tunnel junctions. By employing mutual-inductance measurements and using a high-sensitive bridge, we have thoroughly investigated (both experimentally and theoretically) the temperature and magnetic field dependence of complex AC susceptibility of 2D-JJA. We also demonstrate the use of the scanning SQUID microscope for imaging the local flux distribution within our unshunted arrays

    Breeding latitude predicts timing but not rate of spring migration in a widespread migratory bird in South America

    Identifying the processes that determine avian migratory strategies in different environmental contexts is imperative to understanding the constraints to survival and reproduction faced by migratory birds across the planet. We compared the spring migration strategies of Fork‐tailed Flycatchers (Tyrannus s. savana) that breed at south‐temperate latitudes (i.e., austral migrants) vs. tropical latitudes (i.e., intratropical migrants) in South America. We hypothesized that austral migrant flycatchers are more time‐selected than intratropical migrants during spring migration. As such, we predicted that austral migrants, which migrate further than intratropical migrants, will migrate at a faster rate and that the rate of migration for austral migrants will be positively correlated with the onset of spring migration. We attached light‐level geolocators to Fork‐tailed Flycatchers at two tropical breeding sites in Brazil and at two south‐temperate breeding sites in Argentina and tracked their movements until the following breeding season. Of 286 geolocators that were deployed, 37 were recovered ~1 year later, of which 28 provided useable data. Rate of spring migration did not differ significantly between the two groups, and only at one site was there a significantly positive relationship between date of initiation of spring migration and arrival date. This represents the first comparison of individual migratory strategies among conspecific passerines breeding at tropical vs. temperate latitudes and suggests that austral migrant Fork‐tailed Flycatchers in South America are not more time‐selected on spring migration than intratropical migrant conspecifics. Low sample sizes could have diminished our power to detect differences (e.g., between sexes), such that further research into the mechanisms underpinning migratory strategies in this poorly understood system is necessary.Fil: Jahn, Alex.     Complex Network Tools to Understand the Behavior of Criminality in Urban Areas

    Complex networks are nowadays employed in several applications. Modeling urban street networks is one of them, and in particular to analyze criminal aspects of a city. Several research groups have focused on such application, but until now, there is a lack of a well-defined methodology for employing complex networks in a whole crime analysis process, i.e. from data preparation to a deep analysis of criminal communities. Furthermore, the "toolset" available for those works is not complete enough, also lacking techniques to maintain up-to-date, complete crime datasets and proper assessment measures. In this sense, we propose a threefold methodology for employing complex networks in the detection of highly criminal areas within a city. Our methodology comprises three tasks: (i) Mapping of Urban Crimes; (ii) Criminal Community Identification; and (iii) Crime Analysis. Moreover, it provides a proper set of assessment measures for analyzing intrinsic criminality of communities, especially when considering different crime types. We show our methodology by applying it to a real crime dataset from the city of San Francisco - CA, USA. The results confirm its effectiveness to identify and analyze high criminality areas within a city. Hence, our contributions provide a basis for further developments on complex networks applied to crime analysis.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, 14th International Conference on Information Technology : New Generation
