    Eighth-Order Vacuum-Polarization Function Formed by Two Light-by-Light-Scattering Diagrams and its Contribution to the Tenth-Order Electron g-2

    We have evaluated the contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the electron from six tenth-order Feynman diagrams which contain eighth-order vacuum-polarization function formed by two light-by-light scattering diagrams connected by three photons. The integrals are constructed by two different methods. In the first method the subtractive counter terms are used to deal with ultraviolet (UV) singularities together with the requirement of gauge-invariance. In the second method, the Ward-Takahashi identity is applied to the light-by-light scattering amplitudes to eliminate UV singularities. Numerical evaluation confirms that the two methods are consistent with each other within their numerical uncertainties. Combining the two results statistically and adding small contribution from the muons and/or tau leptons, we obtain 0.0003999(18)(α/π)5 0.000 399 9 (18) (\alpha/\pi)^5. We also evaluated the contribution to the muon g2g-2 from the same set of diagrams and found 1.26344(14)(α/π)5 -1.263 44 (14) (\alpha/\pi)^5.Comment: 27 page

    Neutral Collective Excitations in Striped Hall States

    In the striped Hall state, a magnetic translation in one direction is spontaneously broken to the discrete translation. The spectrum of the neutral collective excitation is obtained in the single mode approximation at half-filled third and fourth Landau levels. The spectrum is anisotropic and has a multiple line node structure.     Tenth-order lepton g-2: Contribution from diagrams containing a sixth-order light-by-light-scattering subdiagram internally

    This paper reports the result of our evaluation of the tenth-order QED correction to the lepton g-2 from Feynman diagrams which have sixth-order light-by-light-scattering subdiagrams, none of whose vertices couple to the external magnetic field. The gauge-invariant set of these diagrams, called Set II(e), consists of 180 vertex diagrams. In the case of the electron g-2 (a_e), where the light-by-light subdiagram consists of the electron loop, the contribution to a_e is found to be - 1.344 9 (10) (\alpha /\pi)^5. The contribution of the muon loop to a_e is - 0.000 465 (4) (\alpha /\pi)^5. The contribution of the tau-lepton loop is about two orders of magnitudes smaller than that of the muon loop and hence negligible. The sum of all of these contributions to a_e is - 1.345 (1) (\alpha /\pi)^5. We have also evaluated the contribution of Set II(e) to the muon g-2 (a_\mu). The contribution to a_\mu from the electron loop is 3.265 (12) (\alpha /\pi)^5, while the contribution of the tau-lepton loop is -0.038 06 (13) (\alpha /\pi)^5.     Backbone of credit relationships in the Japanese credit market

    We detect the backbone of the weighted bipartite network of the Japanese credit market relationships. The backbone is detected by adapting a general method used in the investigation of weighted networks. With this approach we detect a backbone that is statistically validated against a null hypothesis of uniform diversification of loans for banks and firms. Our investigation is done year by year and it covers more than thirty years during the period from 1980 to 2011. We relate some of our findings with economic events that have characterized the Japanese credit market during the last years. The study of the time evolution of the backbone allows us to detect changes occurred in network size, fraction of credit explained, and attributes characterizing the banks and the firms present in the backbone.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure

    A systematic study on the ground state structure of He isotopes including 10He is presented through a new method developed on the basis of antisymmetrized molecular dynamics AMD , the generator coordinate method GCM , and the stochastic variational method SVM . In this approach, variational calculations are carried out by means of the GCM with the AMD wave functions produced by means of the SVM.     Fermions at unitarity and Haldane Exclusion Statistics

    We consider a gas of neutral fermionic atoms at ultra-low temperatures, with the attractive interaction tuned to Feshbach resonance. We calculate, the variation of the chemical potential and the energy per particle as a function of temperature by assuming the system to be an ideal gas obeying the Haldane-Wu fractional exclusion statistics. Our results for the untrapped gas compare favourably with the recently published Monte Carlo calculations of two groups. For a harmonically trapped gas, the results agree with experiment, and also with other published work.Comment: 4 pages, 1 postscript figur

    Bank-firm credit network in Japan. An analysis of a bipartite network

    We present an analysis of the credit market of Japan. The analysis is performed by investigating the bipartite network of banks and firms which is obtained by setting a link between a bank and a firm when a credit relationship is present in a given time window. In our investigation we focus on a community detection algorithm which is identifying communities composed by both banks and firms. We show that the clusters obtained by directly working on the bipartite network carry information about the networked nature of the Japanese credit market. Our analysis is performed for each calendar year during the time period from 1980 to 2011. Specifically, we obtain communities of banks and networks for each of the 32 investigated years, and we introduce a method to track the time evolution of these communities on a statistical basis. We then characterize communities by detecting the simultaneous over-expression of attributes of firms and banks. Specifically, we consider as attributes the economic sector and the geographical location of firms and the type of banks. In our 32 year long analysis we detect a persistence of the over-expression of attributes of clusters of banks and firms together with a slow dynamics of changes from some specific attributes to new ones. Our empirical observations show that the credit market in Japan is a networked market where the type of banks, geographical location of firms and banks and economic sector of the firm play a role in shaping the credit relationships between banks and firms.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, 2 Table

    Induced Chern-Simons term of a paired electron state in the quantum Hall system

    The induced Chern-Simons term for a paired electron state is calculated in the quantum Hall system by using a field theory on the von Neumann lattice. The coefficient of the Chern-Simons term, which is the Hall conductance, has not only the usual term proportional to a filling factor due to P (parity) & T (time reversal) symmetry breaking but also correction terms due to P & T & U(1) symmetry breaking. The correction term essentially comes from the Nambu-Goldstone mode and depends on an infrared limit. It is shown that the correction term is related to a topological number of a gap function in the momentum space.Comment: 26 pages, 6 figure
