Ideas for Creation of Knowledge: Strategic Options for the Organization
This paper traces various strategic ideas for creation of knowledge to attain competitive advantage by organization. Knowledge (both implicit and explicit) is created through dynamic interactions among individuals, the organization, and the environment. The key factors create tacit or implicit knowledge and are practical experience through application of talents, transformation through conversation, escapes observation and evaluation of various actors and forces in a particular situation, embedded in stories and narratives, held within self through understanding and judgments, through experiment, using insights and understandings of individuals and their judgments and so on. Extracting knowledge from within the employees, creation of knowledge culture, interaction among virtual teams, connectionbetween knowledge and organizational learning, encouraging communication, face-to-face and synchronous conversation, apprenticeship and training, contacting expert, sending email, transcribing talks, team intersection are the major options for the creation of explicit knowledge. However, in utilizing these strategic options, manager should maintain cohesion among all the variables and a consideration of contingency to make the knowledge creation process a fruitful one
Effects of spiritual intelligence from Islamic perspective on emotional intelligence
Purpose – The aim of this study is to develop a spiritual intelligence scale from an Islamic perspective. In
addition, this research explores the relationship of spiritual intelligence from an Islamic perspective with
emotional intelligence among the students of higher learning institutions in Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from 250 students from different higher learning
institutions in Malaysia.
Findings – The findings of the study show the relationships of spiritual intelligence from an Islamic
perspective and emotional intelligence. Statistically significant relationships were found between four
dimensions of spiritual intelligence from an Islamic perspective (e.g. transcendental awareness, meaning of
life, patience and forgiveness) and emotional intelligence.
Originality/value – The contribution of human intelligence in the development higher learning institution
is remarkable. Most research found on spiritual intelligence is from traditional and Western perspective with
very limited studies found from an Islamic perspective. The purpose of the current study is to construct a
spiritual intelligence from an Islamic perspective and empirically validate the items. The study also looks for
relationships of spiritual intelligence from an Islamic perspective and emotional intelligence among the
students of higher learning institutions
The effects of spiritual intelligence and its dimensions on organizational citizenship behaviou
Purpose: Organizational citizenship behaviour may exist among employees who have inner feelings of having better work experiences by using their spiritual experiences, and also to nurture these by creating meaningful ethical work environments. These phenomena have not been sufficiently studied especially in the context of recent corporate scandals and ethical violations. For this reason, this study seeks to enrich the understanding of relationship of spiritual intelligence and its sub constructs on employee citizenship behaviour among the employees who are working in manufacturing and service organization in Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach: This paper examines the effect of spiritual intelligence and its dimensions on organizational citizenship behaviour among the employees who are working in manufacturing and service industries in Malaysia. Data were collected from 112 employees of the organization from 10 manufacturing and 10 service organization in Peninsular Malaysia.
Findings and Originality/value: Multiple regression analyses have revealed that employee spiritual intelligence plays an important role for generating citizenship behaviour among employees. The two important dimensions namely critical existential thinking and transcendental awareness of spiritual intelligence are having great effect on organizational citizenship behaviour.
Research limitations/implications: Scholars can develop new research agenda first to identify the nature of effects it might have on employee’s performance which can boost the ultimate goal of the organization.
Practical implications: Through the finding of this empirical study, it is hoped that it can provide some preliminary assessment and knowledge of the effects of spiritual intelligence of employees and how they relate to the OCB. This would be vital for industrial development by adding relevant policies regarding enhancing employees’ OCB.
Social implications: This study has the capacity to enhance management awareness concerning recruiting people in terms of spiritual intelligence. People from different culture with high level of citizenship behavior can able to get the job.
Originality/value: Organizational management may consider making appropriate decisions for nurturing and developing the relevant dimensions of this intelligence that are lacking among the employees in order to inculcate the spirit of OCB and develop a better work environment. Implications of the research findings for management scholars as well as for management professionals are discussed at the end.Peer Reviewe
Quantitative Analysis of Total Phenolic, Flavonoid Contents and HPTLC Fingerprinting for Standardization of Glycyrrhiza glabra Linn. Roots
The Glycyrrhiza glabra Linn is an important medicinal plant and its roots are commonly used in various indigenous system of medicine to cure many acute and chronic diseases. The current study was designed to quantify total phenolic, flavonoid contents in G. glabra Linn roots to evaluate the antioxidant potential and to carry out the pharmacognostical investigations along with HPTLC fingerprinting in order to develop the quality control parameters for the standardization of this important medicinal plant. A variety of pharmacognostical investigations e.g., extractive values, total ash, water soluble ash, and acid insoluble ash, moisture content, loss on drying, pH and phytochemical screening of G. glabra Linn roots were analyzed as per the standard methods. The content of total phenolics, flavonoids, pesticide residues, aflatoxin and heavy metals were also determined as per the reported methods. The HPTLC fingerprinting of methanolic extract of the G. glabra roots was also carried out using CAMAG-HPTLC system. The results of phytochemicals investigations revealed the presence of carbohydrates, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, alkaloids, proteins, saponins, lipids, sterols and tannins in various solvent extracts. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents in methanolic extract were found to be 7.47 mg/gm and 2.25 µg/gm, respectively. Heavy metals concentrations were found to be under the standard limits. Aflatoxins and pesticides residues were not detected in the extract. The standard parameters established through this study may prove important tools for authentication, identification, purification and standardization of G. glabra Linn roots in herbal pharmaceutical industries
The impact of customer perceived service quality on customer satisfaction for private health centre in Malaysia: a structural equation modeling approach
The main purpose of this paper is to develop and test the modified SERVQUAL model to
measure Malaysian private healthcare quality. A total of 131 participants were selected randomly those
visit private hospitals in Malaysia for healthcare facility. Then data were examined using means,
correlations, principal component and exploratory factor analysis to establish the modified SERVQUAL
scale’s reliability, underlying dimensionality and convergent, discriminant validity. This paper than
utilizes the structural equation modeling technique to do confirmatory factor analysis and test the
hypothesized positive inter-relationships between customer’s perception and customer satisfaction. This
paper reviews and identifies essential service quality variables that are associated with the customer
satisfaction in the private hospital. Customer satisfaction should reflect the need of healthcare quality
requested by the customers, as direct and indirect relationships exist between personnel support and
customer satisfaction and attention to customers and hospital facilities and between hospital facilities
and customer satisfaction. The proposed model has been tested on only one private hospital in Malaysia
due to short period. Due to this small sample size and the convenient method of data collection, there is a
possibility of biasness of the authors may play a role in the outcome of the study. The main contribution
of this study is that, it proposes a way to assess quality services in the private hospitals. This study has
proposed a conceptual model that need further investigation and opens a way for future research
Manufacturer's perspective on inclusive design drivers and barriers - developing countries case
Inclusive Design aims to ensure that the design needs of the largest possible audience are addressed.
Developing countries contribute about 41% of the global population and the percentage of older
people and people with disabilities is increasing, which further highlights the need for an inclusive
design approach. This discusses the demographics and the need to consider the design needs of this
large segment of the world population. Exploration of drivers and barriers to inclusive design are
identified so that strategies can be devised to promote drivers and remove barriers. This ongoing
research will be based on a survey that will be used to collect manufacturer’s perspective on these
issues. Data analysis will provide an opportunity to understand the manufacturer’s perspective and
how understanding and awareness can be increased. This research will improve the lives of people in
developing countries and will highlight business opportunities for local and international
manufacturing companies
FGLP: A Federated Fine-Grained Location Prediction System for Mobile Users
Fine-grained location prediction on smart phones can be used to improve
app/system performance. Application scenarios include video quality adaptation
as a function of the 5G network quality at predicted user locations, and
augmented reality apps that speed up content rendering based on predicted user
locations. Such use cases require prediction error in the same range as the GPS
error, and no existing works on location prediction can achieve this level of
accuracy. We present a system for fine-grained location prediction (FGLP) of
mobile users, based on GPS traces collected on the phones. FGLP has two
components: a federated learning framework and a prediction model. The
framework runs on the phones of the users and also on a server that coordinates
learning from all users in the system. FGLP represents the user location data
as relative points in an abstract 2D space, which enables learning across
different physical spaces. The model merges Bidirectional Long Short-Term
Memory (BiLSTM) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), where BiLSTM learns
the speed and direction of the mobile users, and CNN learns information such as
user movement preferences. FGLP uses federated learning to protect user privacy
and reduce bandwidth consumption. Our experimental results, using a dataset
with over 600,000 users, demonstrate that FGLP outperforms baseline models in
terms of prediction accuracy. We also demonstrate that FGLP works well in
conjunction with transfer learning, which enables model reusability. Finally,
benchmark results on several types of Android phones demonstrate FGLP's
feasibility in real life
Politicization of Women in 20th Century: A Study within Colonial Constitutional Framework
In society women serve as the foundation of social structure. Historically women have provided the critical links in structuring social and political organization. The role and status of Muslim women surfaced at the end of the nineteenth century as part of the large anti-colonialist movements. The role and status of the women are not isolated social phenomena and women’s struggle does not take place in a vacuum. Both are determined enhanced or impeded, by the social, political and economic development of the people’s history. If the present Islamization, campaign in Pakistan seeks to curtail women’s rights and if in resistance a women’s movement has been formed, both are the result of ongoing process and have to views as such. Research paper in hand encompasses the struggle of women to felicitate their constitutional rights, which unfortunately were not recognized and realized by the “colonial elite”
