Time auto-correlation function and Green-Kubo formula: A study on disordered harmonic chain
We have considered heat conduction in a one-dimensional mass disordered
harmonic chain of particles connected to two Langevin type reservoirs at
different temperatures. An exact expression for the boundary heat
current-current auto-correlation function in the non-equilibrium steady state
(NESS) is obtained in terms of non-equilibrium phonon Green's functions. The
time integral of the correlation function gives expected result, both in
non-equilibrium as well as equilibrium cases. Using the form of this
correlation function we show that asymptotic system size dependence of current
fluctuation in NESS for a mass disordered harmonic chain is for
different boundary conditions. For free and fixed boundary conditions we get
and 3/2 respectively, while for pinned case the fluctuation decays
exponentially with system size
ORODISPERSIBLE TABLETS: A REVIEW
Orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs) are solid dosage forms containing drugs that disintegrate in the oral cavity within less than 1 minute leavingan easy-to-swallow residue. The European Pharmacopeia adopted the term orodispersible tablet for a tablet that disperses or disintegrates within<3 minutes in the mouth before swallowing. ODT is a good choice of drug delivery for pediatric and geriatric patients because it troubleshoots theproblem of dysphagia. The current article is focused on ideal characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, various technologies developed for ODT,evaluation methods along with recent research and future potential. Keywords: Orodispersible tablets, Mechanism of disintegration, Fast dissolving films, Recent research
“An old man’s eagle mind”: A Passionate Refashioning of the Poet’s Self in W. B. Yeats’s ‘An Acre of Grass’
Yeats s Last Poems 1939 according to critics like F R Leavis lacks the complexity and tension of his earlier works Instead most of the poems included in this collection are evocative of the mood of resignation and the decrepitude of old age Amidst this physical decay the poetic persona relentlessly strives to refashion the self by transmuting his passion into creative energy The realization of truth regarding the tragic gaiety of the mind heightens the psychological tension arising from the conflict between the body and the soul The poetic refashioning is informed by the persistence of the creative impulse that contributes to the integrity of the self and its symbolic defiance of the ineluctable physical process Taking Yeats s poem An Acre of Grass as the case study this paper would examine how the process of poetic composition corresponds to the cycle of human existence birth decay and rebirt
Aerodynamic Profile Modification of a NACA 0012 Aerofoil for Enhanced Lift-Drag Characteristics at Low Reynolds Number
This article discusses the enhanced lift-drag ratio of a geometrically modified National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics 0012 aerofoil at a low Reynolds number of 40000. The study involves validating the Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes Transition Shear Stress Transport model for the analysis of flow around the subject aerofoil with the modified profile for angles of attack ranging from 0 to 10°. The coefficient of lift to drag increased by 70% for the modified aerofoil at an angle of attack of 6°. The extent of the laminar separation bubble on the modified airfoil is reduced by 40% compared to the standard aerofoil at an angle of attack of 8°. The modified aerofoil cross-section does not involve much manufacturing complexity and can be deployed in small-scale wind turbines operating at low wind speeds
Evaluation of Antibacterial Activity and Cytotoxicity of Green Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles Using Hemidesmus Indicus R.Br.
In this work, Silver nanoparticle with potent antimicrobial activity was produced by plant mediated green synthesis of silver nitrate. Characterization of silver nanoparticle revealed that nanoparticles were crystalline in nature. TEM analysis confirmed the spherical shape of nanoparticle billow 20 nm of size. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the silver nanoparticles are crystals. Investigation of the antibacterial properties of silver nanoparticles against gram positive S. aureus and gram negative P. aeruginosa offered a minimum inhibition concentration of 12.5 µg/ml for both the cases. In addition, silver nanoparticles were able to decrease the viability of both PA-1 cell line (derived from human ovary Teratocarcinoma), and A549 (human non-small cell lung alveolar epithelial cell line) in a dose dependent manner
Heat conduction and phonon localization in disordered harmonic crystals
We investigate the steady state heat current in two and three dimensional
isotopically disordered harmonic lattices. Using localization theory as well as
kinetic theory we estimate the system size dependence of the current. These
estimates are compared with numerical results obtained using an exact formula
for the current given in terms of a phonon transmission function, as well as by
direct nonequilibrium simulations. We find that heat conduction by
high-frequency modes is suppressed by localization while low-frequency modes
are strongly affected by boundary conditions. Our {\color{black}heuristic}
arguments show that Fourier's law is valid in a three dimensional disordered
solid except for special boundary conditions. We also study the pinned case
relevant to localization in quantum systems and often used as a model system to
study the validity of Fourier's law. Here we provide the first numerical
verification of Fourier's law in three dimensions. In the two dimensional
pinned case we find that localization of phonon modes leads to a heat
insulator.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Inertial spheroids in homogeneous, isotropic turbulence
We study the rotational dynamics of {\it inertial} disks and rods in
three-dimensional, homogeneous isotropic turbulence. In particular, we show how
the alignment and the decorrelation time-scales of such spheroids depend,
critically, on both the level of inertia and the aspect ratio of these
particles. These results illustrate the effect of inertia---which leads to a
preferential sampling of the local flow geometry---on the statistics of both
disks and rods in a turbulent flow. Our results are important for a variety of
natural and industrial settings where the turbulent transport of asymmetric,
spheroidal inertial particles is ubiquitous.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
