Problems of social adaptation of international students in Russia
The article discusses a range of common problems faced by international students while studying in Russia, drawing on the example of Ural Federal University (Ekaterinburg). Analysis of the sociological data has shown that international students have to deal with the following adaptation barriers: organizational barriers which students face when joining the educational process; socio-cultural barriers which mostly stem from the lack of language proficiency; getting accustomed to daily routines of living on the campus; informational barriers caused by a low awareness of the conditions of life and studying in Russia (Russian cultural norms and values, the climate of the Urals, etc.). The article reveals a correlation between the specificity of the countries international students come from and the main stages of their adaptation, providing guidelines for improvement of international student support at Ural Federal University. Medical workers in rural areas offer their patients a partnership type of interaction but it is considered that the patients think of the medical personnel as an image of guardian. Flipped classroom in the higher education system: A pilot study in Finland and Russia
This article shows specifics of the transition from conventional educational practice to the Flipped classroom model in modern education system. It is focused on professorsβ perception of the video-based teaching approach. Conducted sociological survey involves the teaching staff from one European and one Russian university, namely the Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) and Ural Federal University (URFU). The survey investigated professorsβ awareness of the Inverted classroom, their readiness to employ it and prime barriers they face. Results reveal that teachers from Russia have less information about the model and practically do not embed it in the education arrangement comparing to professors from Finland. Lack of time, lack of support and assistance are shown to be the prime barriers preventing them from flipped classroom implementation. Drawn implications are of use for the integration of the flipped classroom. Β© 2017, Adam Marszalek Publishing House. All rights reserved
National Debt Management and the Lengthening of Debt Maturities in the 1970s of the U.S.A. (I)
Β© MCSER-Mediterranean Center of Social and Educational Research. The current economic growth rate in the Republic of Tatarstan cannot serve as the only progress and welfare index of the region. This can be due to the fact that the continual economic growth of public welfare caused a number of adverse effects, such as environmental disorder, social strain intensification, etc. that is why it is necessary to reinforce another measure of our further well-being. This article specificates a particular criterion, forming part of the integral βlife qualityβ rate, i.e. the expected life expectancy at birth. To complete this task a profound scientific research at a regional level is required. This article presents results of an analysis of life expectancy rate at birth as a way to evaluate life quality in the Republic of Tatarstan. The research results show that there is a territorial and gender disparity. The authors make this fact conditional on job distinctive features, unhealthy lifestyle, carelessness which leads to disregard oneβs own health. So, they suggest including this rate as an indicative one while assessing the heads of the Republic of Tatarstan municipal units. This research aims to assess life quality from the perspective of life expectancy at birth. This work presents a monitoring of expected lifespan for the Republic of Tatarstan population as compared to other regions of the Volga Region Federal District. It also considers the situation within the republic at a municipal level. Practical implementation of the recommendations drawn up in the course of the research will promote development of a reasonable regional programme to maintain and improve public welfare. This research is based on traditional methods: cartographical (methodologically founded on subject and complex mapping and advances in geoinformation technologies), comparative and descriptive, spatial analysis method and the statistical one. Processing and analysis of fact sheets was carried out with the help of special geoinformation, cartographic and statistic software
Leadership potential of professional teacher associations in Russia: Formation of middle leaders
This research study is aimed at investigating distributed leadership practices in the Russian school system, of which professional teacher associations (PTA) constitute a distinct feature. In particular, we set out to investigate the PTA leadership potential, as well as the role and specific personal characteristics of middle leaders in the Russian school education system. These associations are formed by the school administration on the basis of subject areas, bringing together teachers of maths, history, etc. Teachers join PTAs on a voluntarily basis. The key function of such organisations consists in the implementation of innovative educational approaches and techniques. In order to analyse their leadership potential, we carried out a sociological survey among the employees of high-profile secondary schools (gymnasiums and lyceums) situated in the major Russian city of Ekaterinburg. The research methodology comprised structured interviews with 110 respondents, along with in-depth interviews with 2 school directors, 4 school deputy directors and 6 heads of professional teacher associations. Our results show that the fundamentals and principles of distributed leadership are actively implemented in Ekaterinburg schools. The school administrations encourage the creation of professional teacher associations grouped around subject areas, delegating to these structural units the functions of improving the quality of teaching the respective subjects and disseminating educational innovations, at the same time as fulfilling the requirements of the state and regional education authorities. Such associations are headed by middle leaders, who are nominated by their colleagues and whose candidacy is approved by school seniors, taking into account their professional achievements, experience of leading pedagogical innovations and the presence of the right personal qualities necessary for productive collaborative work. These people perform the role of mediators, operating at the interface between various levels within the school. Although viewed as a schoolβs personnel reserve for the positions of principals and head teachers, our respondents consider themselves to be βmore teachersβ or βinnovators in educationβ than administrators. The development of the leadership qualities of such professionals in the Russian school system is shown to be hindered by a βglass ceilingβ β a certain limit in their career growth. This discouraging factor results in some middle school leaders searching for professional self-realization opportunities outside the school system, in the spheres of business, science or culture that are believed to provide more opportunities for self-advancement. Problem of Understanding Drug Instructions by a Non-Specialist
This article is devoted to the problem of studying the texts used to inform the consumer in detail about the drug. The texts of instructions for the use of drugs manufactured in Russia and abroad are analyzed. The question of introducing new approaches to the development of these texts in the field of domestic pharmacy is raised. The relevance of the study is due to the need to develop special tools to ensure the successful perception and understanding of these texts by drug users. The results of the analysis of some language tools and the features of the construction (architectonics) of these texts from the standpoint of perception and understanding of their contents by an addressee who does not have special knowledge in the field of medicine and pharmacy are presented. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of tools that facilitate the reading of these texts by a non-specialist. The similarities and differences in the use of these drugs in the texts of medicinal instructions in Russian and English are shown. The conclusion is drawn about the relationship between the presence or absence in the texts of medical instructions of certain language means and structural features and the nature of perception and understanding of these texts by the addressee

Right to the city: Youth's view to live in the city
The article represents possibilities and problems of realization of the right to the city of youth in Yekaterinburg. According to the H. Lefebvre' concept, the article states that the next generation is aimed at appropriation of surrounding environment through changing it. By using questionnaires, there were 750 students and working youth interrogated,as well as there were 25 standard interviews with young citizens. The research results showed that young people mostly prefer cultural or recreational usage of urban spaces during the stability period. Youth as an active and dynamic social community acts as a carrier of protest sentiments. These moods become actual in cases of realizations of any administrative decisions directed to privatization of public spaces or affecting the interests of young generation. Materials suggest that the period of transition from consumption to appropriation and changing of urban spaces is observed. The Do-It-Yourself movement is becoming the instrument of Transition.
